Then check that the bit’s shank matches your router’s collet. For several roundover sizes, Whiteside’s 501 set is one documented option; for both roundover and chamfer profiles in a compact set, Bosch’s RBS006TES is another. These are examples based on manufacturer specifications, not comparative performance testing.
Pick the profile that matches the edge
Roundover: a softened, curved corner
A roundover bit cuts a radius along an edge. A set with multiple radii gives you options for how pronounced that curve should be. Whiteside Machine Company calls roundovers “by far the most used edge forming bits in woodworking”; that is the manufacturer’s characterization, not an independently measured ranking. Its 501 Roundover & Beading set includes four bits with 1/4-, 3/8-, 1/2-, and 3/4-inch radii.
Chamfer: a straight bevel
A chamfer removes the corner at an angle, leaving a straight bevel rather than a curved profile. Bosch’s RBS006TES Trim and Edging Set includes two chamfer bits alongside two roundovers and two trimming bits.
Match the shank to your router
Check the router’s collet size before choosing a bit set. The Whiteside 501 set uses 1/2-inch shanks; the Bosch RBS006TES uses 1/4-inch shanks. A bit must fit the collet specified for the router—do not assume a set is compatible based on its profile or intended task. Confirm the current model specification and your router setup before buying.

Understand what bearings add
A bearing guides the bit along an edge or template. In the Whiteside 501 set, the manufacturer says alternate bearings let the roundover bits cut a beaded profile as well. Bearing location can also affect where the bit can follow the workpiece: Whiteside lists bearings at both the shank and tip on model 3190. Check the specific bit’s instructions and setup for the edge you intend to cut.
Use manufacturer claims as specifications, not test results
Product pages establish what manufacturers say is included and how a bit is intended to be used; they do not establish comparative durability, cut quality, or value. Bosch describes its profiling bits as intended “For hand-held routers” and “For Palm Routers,” and says its roundover bits use a control-cut design to help minimize kickback. Those are Bosch product-description claims, not guarantees or independent safety findings. No comparative performance ranking is established here.

Set up edge cuts safely
Follow the manual for your specific router and router table. Bosch’s router-table manual includes a section on edge cutting with non-piloted bits; use the instructions for the applicable table and configuration rather than treating a general bit description as setup guidance: Bosch router-table manual.
