INFOR’s listed forestry price data is quarterly through June 2026, while its monthly forest-export database is listed through August. Banco Central de Chile’s latest relevant series is also quarterly—and covers a broad wood-and-furniture category, not September lumber prices.
What does the 1.8% claim measure?
The official sources located do not identify the source behind the 1.8% figure. They do not establish whether it refers to a monthly or year-over-year change, which lumber product is included, which export destinations or transactions are covered, or whether the figure is a unit value or a price index. Without those details, it cannot be treated as a verified September lumber-price statistic.
INFOR’s Calendario de Actualizaciones lists forestry export data as monthly, with the latest edition shown as August 2026, and forestry prices as quarterly, with the latest edition shown as June 2026. The calendar therefore does not itself provide a September price observation.
What the Banco Central series actually reports
Banco Central de Chile publishes a quarterly export-price index titled “Índices de precios de exportaciones trimestrales, Resto madera y muebles.” It uses a 2018=100 base and is a broad “other wood and furniture” category, not a standalone lumber series. Its latest displayed observation is 95.5 for the second quarter of 2026, compared with 117.7 for the first quarter. Both readings are preliminary, and neither is a September monthly price.

The series describes its implicit deflator as nominal dollar value divided by quantum. Banco Central says the quarterly figures are published with a 48-day lag after quarter-end, except for the fourth quarter, which has a 78-day lag. See the series and its publication note.
Why the distinction matters to construction buyers
An export-price index for a broad category cannot be substituted for the price of a specific lumber product. Nor does an index movement necessarily represent the price paid by a Chilean mill’s customer: product mix, destinations, transaction coverage, currency and valuation basis can all affect the comparison. INFOR describes its forestry statistics as covering industry and product marketing, with export information organized by product, company and destination; that context is useful, but it does not verify the unidentified 1.8% claim.

For builders, a Chilean export statistic is also not automatically a proxy for local purchase costs. The claim would need to specify the product and market being measured before it could inform a comparison with a project’s lumber prices.

- The exact product or tariff category meant by “lumber.”
- The observation period and comparison basis, such as month over month or year over year.
- Whether the reported figure is a unit value or an index, along with its currency and valuation basis.
- Which destinations and export transactions are included.
- Whether the observation is preliminary or revised.
Until those elements are identified, the defensible conclusion is limited: official data available here do not validate a 1.8% rise in September Chilean lumber export prices.
INFOR’s forestry statistics portal and its Forest Export Bulletin provide official context on forestry activity and export data, but the listed update schedule and Banco Central series do not establish the headline figure.
