The facility is designed to support AI infrastructure and is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028, according to the company’s October 7, 2026 announcement.
What is KIX15?
KIX15 is a data-center development at Digital Realty’s KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. It is being developed by MC Digital Realty, a 50/50 joint venture between Digital Realty and Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan. Once complete, KIX15 is planned to be the campus’s fifth data center.
Digital Realty describes KIX15 as a 24 MW facility intended to serve hyperscalers, cloud service providers and businesses deploying AI infrastructure. The company has not published a per-rack power limit, detailed cooling specifications or an energy-use target for the project.
How KIX15 is intended to support AI infrastructure
Cooling for varied workloads
The company says KIX15 is designed to support hybrid air- and liquid-cooling technologies. That indicates the facility is being planned for more than one cooling approach, but the announcement does not provide engineering details or performance figures. It does not establish a particular rack-density capability or facility certification.

Connectivity and interconnection
Digital Realty says customers are expected to have access to low-latency connections to key Japanese locations and cloud services, as well as to more than 300 Digital Realty data centers worldwide through ServiceFabric and collaborations with multiple network service providers. These are announced service plans, not published latency measurements or guaranteed carrier options for an individual customer.
A broader Kansai development effort
KIX15 is part of MC Digital Realty’s Kansai AI Infrastructure Co-Creation Project, which the company describes as combining campus expansion, domestic and international connectivity, and collaboration with telecommunications and technology partners. The announcement frames this as a way to build regional AI infrastructure; it does not quantify Kansai demand or independently assess the project’s economic impact.

Construction schedule and Japan portfolio plans
Digital Realty scheduled KIX15 to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2028. That is a target, not confirmation that the facility is open. The company also projects that, upon KIX15’s completion, MC Digital Realty’s Japan portfolio will comprise 10 data centers with approximately 220 MW of aggregate IT capacity.
Both the operating date and portfolio totals are company projections. Digital Realty’s announcement cautions that development plans, expected completion dates and customer demand are forward-looking matters subject to risks and uncertainty.

What the announcement establishes—and what it does not
The project announcement establishes the planned location, capacity, development team, intended customer groups and broad service goals. It does not provide detailed construction specifications, measured operating performance, customer commitments or a published demand forecast. Digital Realty’s Osaka location page lists four data centers for the metro area and does not list KIX15, consistent with the project being under construction rather than operating.
Digital Realty has separately announced specifications for NRT14, a different development in Chiba. Those details—including any facility-specific cooling or certification claims—should not be treated as KIX15 specifications.
