Halimar Shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana, is building complete ROMULUS 151 unmanned surface vessels as part of HII’s distributed production network. HII’s August 25, 2026 announcement reported four vessels under construction at Breaux Brothers Enterprises; a separate September 8 update later reported five in total, including one at Halimar.
What is Halimar Shipyard building for HII?
HII says Halimar joined its ROMULUS manufacturing network in July 2026 and is constructing complete ROMULUS 151 unmanned surface vessels (USVs). HII describes the distributed network as a way to expand production capacity. The company characterized the addition as part of building industrial capacity for autonomous maritime capability at scale; that is HII’s stated rationale, not an independent assessment of production capacity.
Halimar is in Morgan City, Louisiana. HII’s August 25 announcement described the shipyard’s construction work as advancing, but did not give a Halimar vessel count in that announcement. HII’s August 25 report is the source for that dated description.
How the reported construction count changed
The counts refer to different HII updates, so they should be read as dated snapshots rather than combined into one undated total.

| August 25, 2026 | Four ROMULUS 151 vessels were under construction at Breaux Brothers Enterprises in New Iberia, Louisiana. The announcement said Halimar’s construction was advancing, without giving a count there. |
| September 8, 2026 | Five vessels were under construction: four at Breaux Brothers and one at Halimar. |
The September 8 release also marked a construction milestone at Breaux Brothers: the first ROMULUS 151 hull’s structural build was complete and the hull had been flipped, allowing deck and pilothouse construction to proceed. That milestone concerned the first hull at Breaux Brothers, not Halimar’s vessel. See HII’s September 8 update.
How the production network is organized
Halimar Shipyard
Halimar’s reported role is building complete ROMULUS 151 vessels. William Hidalgo Jr., Halimar’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, said the shipyard was proud to partner with HII on the program.

Breaux Brothers Enterprises
Breaux Brothers, based in New Iberia, was the location of the four vessels HII reported under construction in August. It also hosted the first-hull structural milestone reported in September.
Bayou Metal Supply & Manufacturing
HII identified Bayou Metal Supply & Manufacturing in Slidell as a key manufacturing partner. According to the August announcement, the company has a dedicated line for precision cutting, bending, welding, and assembly of major structural components. This is a component-manufacturing role; HII’s report does not describe Bayou as building complete vessels.

What the Navy contract does—and does not—say about Halimar
On September 29, 2026, HII announced that it had received a U.S. Navy contract to build 10 ROMULUS USVs for the Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel program. The announcement does not specify that all 10, or any particular number, will be built at Halimar. The contract count should therefore not be treated as a Halimar production order. HII executive vice president and Mission Technologies president Andy Green described ROMULUS as a shift in how the company delivers unmanned capability to the fleet. The contract details are in HII’s September 29 announcement.
ROMULUS family context and the ROMULUS 151 distinction
HII presents ROMULUS as a modular family of AI-enabled USVs powered by its Odyssey autonomy software. The company lists family-level missions that include intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; mine countermeasures; strike; counter-unmanned systems; and launching or recovering unmanned underwater and aerial vehicles.

Those specifications are not ROMULUS 151 specifications and should not be used to describe the vessel under construction at Halimar. HII’s ROMULUS family announcement provides the variant-specific figures.

In a December 11, 2025 release, HII said prototype construction had reached 30% and that sea trials were scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. That release recorded a forecast; it does not confirm that the trials took place. The statement is available in HII’s December 2025 update.
