The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) was reported to have scheduled charging for Friday, October 9, 2026. That is a planned date—not confirmation that the line has since been energized.
What has been completed
The reported completion concerns the 132 kV connection between the Matatirtha and Chobhar substations in Kathmandu Valley. OnlineKhabar and MeroLagani reported the section as approximately 6 kilometres long and attributed the completion information to NEA. The reports do not establish that every section of the broader Thankot–Chapagaun–Bhaktapur project is complete. (OnlineKhabar; MeroLagani)
When will the line be charged?
The two reports published October 6, 2026 said NEA had scheduled charging to begin Friday, October 9, 2026. The available reports establish the intended schedule only; they do not confirm that charging took place or that the line is operational. A subsequent NEA confirmation would be needed to establish actual energization.
Why the connection matters
OnlineKhabar reported NEA Managing Director Dirghayukumar Shrestha’s view that operating the line and Chobhar substation would help balance electricity supply and demand in Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas. This is a reported paraphrase, not a direct quotation. The reports provide no quantified estimate of reliability improvements, transmission capacity, or reduction in electricity losses.

Project history and related work
Earlier work on the Matatirtha–Chobhar section
NEA’s FY 2023/24 annual report records that a contract with Vector Group Private Limited was signed on April 22, 2024, for Matatirtha line-bay construction and testing and commissioning of the Matatirtha–Chobhar 132 kV double-circuit line. At the time covered by that report, the contractor had mobilized and equipment design and review were in progress. Those are historical details, not a statement of the project’s current status. (NEA)
Chobhar–Patan underground line is separate
The approximately 4.5-kilometre Chobhar–Patan 132 kV underground line is a distinct project, not another name for the Matatirtha–Chobhar section. OnlineKhabar described it as ongoing high-priority work. NEA’s May 8, 2023 bidding document identifies a separate package for a 132 kV underground line from Chobhar Substation to New Patan Substation under the Chobhar Patan Chapagaun 132 kV Underground Transmission Line Project.
