TeraWulf says amended agreements with Kentucky Power increase contracted power capacity for its planned Muskie Data Campus in eastern Kentucky from 500 megawatts (MW) to 1 gigawatt (GW). The first 500 MW phase is targeted to begin ramping in 2028; the added 500 MW phase is targeted for 2029, subject to Kentucky Public Service Commission approval and Kentucky Power’s construction schedule. The campus is planned infrastructure—not a 1 GW facility already built or operating.

What the 1 GW announcement means

The amended agreements, executed Oct. 1 and announced by TeraWulf on Oct. 5, 2026, raise the campus’s contracted power capacity by 500 MW, doubling the original 500 MW agreement. The figure describes power capacity planned under the agreements; it does not establish that the campus has been constructed, energized, leased, or placed into service. (TeraWulf announcement; project filing)

How the planned power will be delivered

Phase Contracted power Company target Conditions stated
Initial phase 500 MW Begin ramping in 2028 “Begin ramping” is the stated milestone; it does not mean the full phase will be operating by that date. (TeraWulf announcement)
Added phase 500 MW 2029, advanced from the earlier 2030 target Subject to Kentucky Public Service Commission approval and Kentucky Power’s construction schedule. (TeraWulf announcement; company materials)

The 2029 target is therefore a conditional project milestone, not a guaranteed delivery date. The amended agreements describe the planned capacity; the approval and utility construction dependencies still matter for the second phase.

Where the campus is planned and what infrastructure is involved

TeraWulf acquired the Muskie site in May 2026. The company identified it as being in EastPark Industrial Park in eastern Kentucky, with approximately 285 acres owned or controlled. Its acquisition announcement described Kentucky Power as constructing a 345-kilovolt (kV) substation connected to the existing 765 kV transmission network. These are company-reported project details. Is TeraWulf planning a 2 GW Kentucky data center?

TeraWulf says it is evaluating whether Muskie could support up to 2 GW over time. The additional capacity is not part of the contracted 1 GW announced in October. Reaching it would require further utility planning, infrastructure, and agreements. (TeraWulf statement)

What is known about customers and financing?

CEO Paul Prager said customer interest in Muskie had been “tremendous” and that power availability was central to those conversations. The announcement does not identify a signed Muskie customer lease, so the comment should be understood as company-reported interest rather than proof of a customer commitment. (TeraWulf announcement)

In its Oct. 5 filing, TeraWulf said it intends to increase its revolving credit facility and is seeking additional senior secured debt to support campus development and utility-related letter-of-credit needs. The company also cautioned that there is no assurance it will obtain additional financing. (TeraWulf filing)
