Former Alabama finance director Bill Poole has joined Harrison Construction as vice president of finance, legal and external affairs, according to reports published October 5–6, 2026. The Northport-based commercial construction company is one part of his reported next chapter, which also includes an operating-partner role at Accelerated Partners and planned consulting work.
What is Bill Poole’s new role at Harrison Construction?
Poole’s reported title is vice president of finance, legal and external affairs. That is a broad executive position spanning financial, legal and external-affairs responsibilities—not a construction-site role. Tuscaloosa Thread, Alabama Political Reporter and Yellowhammer News reported the appointment; Harrison Construction’s website confirms its location and business, but does not itself announce the hire.
Harrison Construction President Tim Harrison described Poole as a longtime adviser to the company, telling Tuscaloosa Thread: “Bill has been a trusted attorney, advisor, and friend to Harrison Construction for many years.”
Where is Harrison Construction based, and what does it do?
Harrison Construction lists its corporate headquarters at 5870 Charlie Shirley Road in Northport, Alabama. The company says it was established in 1996 and provides commercial construction services, including general contracting and construction management. Its work spans sectors such as health care, hotels, industrial buildings, offices and schools.

Coverage also said Poole planned to continue as chair of the Innovate Alabama board, subject to future approvals. That continuity is not unconditional.
When did Poole leave Montgomery, and who replaced him?
On September 28, 2026, Governor Kay Ivey’s office announced that Poole would leave the Alabama Department of Finance at the end of that week and named Doryan Carlton to lead the department. The new private-sector roles were reported the following week, on October 5 and 6.

Poole had been Alabama’s finance director since 2021, after more than a decade in the Alabama House. The governor’s office described his state service as 16 years. Poole told Alabama Political Reporter: “I don’t view my next chapter as leaving public service so much as changing the way I contribute.”
What did Poole oversee as finance director?
Yellowhammer News reported that during Poole’s finance-director tenure he prepared budgets totaling more than $75 billion, oversaw more than $7 billion in public bond financings and strategic debt restructuring, and helped distribute more than $2 billion in federal COVID-19 relief funds. These are figures attributed to that outlet’s 2026 coverage, not independently audited totals presented here. Alabama Political Reporter also reported the budget figure, though descriptions of its scope vary.

Yellowhammer News additionally reported that more than $100 million in investment had been attracted to Alabama-owned businesses through Innovate Alabama. That figure concerns the organization’s reported investment impact, not Harrison Construction.

The company’s pages substantiate its Northport headquarters and commercial-construction business, but should not be treated as independent confirmation of Poole’s hire.
