The superintendents’ presentation reportedly estimated construction costs were rising 5–8% annually and that a two-year delay on $102 million would add $5–8 million. Those are estimates attributed to the presentation, not an independently verified Kentucky forecast or calculation for each project.
Nationally, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported that new school-building construction costs increased 58% between January 2016 and January 2026, using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. GAO also estimated that 82% of school districts identified high construction costs as a barrier. These national figures provide context; they do not measure the cost increases for the seven Kentucky projects.
