For the detour described in The News-Press report on October 5, 2026, exit the beach through Times Square, walk along the Estero Boulevard sidewalk around the construction area, then re-enter the beach beyond Lynn Hall. Reverse the route when travelling in the opposite direction. Follow any current signs and directions from construction personnel, since access arrangements may change as work progresses. Do not enter construction fencing, barriers, closed beach sections or other marked work areas. The October 5 report described the water around the pier as an active construction zone and, citing Lee County guidance, advised visitors not to swim, wade, fish, boat or use personal watercraft near active construction operations. The October 5, 2026 report said crews would soon begin pile installation; it did not establish that pile driving had already started. It described a planned 150-foot safety perimeter around active pile installation and said work could produce noticeable vibration and loud, repetitive noise. Crews anticipated installing about three piles per day, depending on weather and field conditions. That was a reported expectation, not a guarantee of the current schedule. How long will the replacement pier be, and when is it expected to open?
Lee County says the replacement will be 1,000 feet long and 12 feet wide, at the same location as the former pier destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022. The county’s February 2025 update said those dimensions would make the new pier 70.85% longer and 50% wider than the former structure. Lee County Government’s February 18, 2025 update
The county’s current Fort Myers Beach Pier Replacement page says construction is underway and estimates completion in summer 2027, weather permitting. That is the current county forecast. A February 2025 county release had forecast August 2027; the estimate has since been expressed as summer 2027, and neither date is a guarantee.
