What is Atlantic Park in Virginia Beach?
Atlantic Park is a year-round mixed-use destination at the former Dome site, between 18th and 20th streets. The district includes the surf lagoon, The Dome, public gathering space, shops and restaurants, as well as residences and creative office space. Visit Virginia Beach describes the lagoon as 2.67 acres, within a site of more than 4.3 acres, and identifies it as the first Wavegarden Cove Surf Lagoon in North America. The destination guide says it can generate up to 1,000 surfable waves per hour, with waves ranging from one foot for beginners to six feet for experienced surfers. Visit the beach area without surfing
Surfing is not the only way to use the lagoon area. Atlantic Park Surf promotes paid beach passes, lounge seating, cabanas and lagoon-side food-and-beverage service, along with a sunset pass advertised as starting at 5 p.m. Visit Virginia Beach also describes family surf lessons and access for non-surfing companions, including watching surfers from the beach. See a concert or other event at The Dome
The Dome by Rutter Mills hosts live music and other events. Visit Virginia Beach gives its capacity as 3,500 indoors and up to 5,000 in an indoor-outdoor configuration. The configuration and experience depend on the event, so check the event listing for its ticketing, layout and entry details.
Explore shops, dining and public space
Atlantic Park’s district site describes shopping and dining, as well as an outdoor plaza intended for community events such as markets, arts fairs and performances. Quiet Storm Surf Shop is among the stores listed on the site. Tenant offerings and occupancy can change, so confirm a specific business is open before visiting.
