What drivers can expect this week
An October 6, 2026, Dallas Morning News report excerpt flags upcoming overnight roadwork between Dallas and Carrollton on I-35E. The excerpt does not identify exact closure locations or timing, so drivers should not assume a particular lane or ramp will be closed—or rely on a general overnight window.
For each trip, look for the date and night, direction, affected segment, whether the closure involves mainlanes, frontage roads or ramps, and the listed hours. Where the I-35E Phase 2 project is
The $709 million estimate applies to the overall TxDOT design-build project in Dallas County, not to this week’s closures. Phase 2 covers 6.39 miles of I-35E from I-635 to the Denton County line. It is part of the Texas Clear Lanes effort.

What the construction includes
TxDOT says the project widens the mainlanes from six to eight, reconstructs two existing reversible tolled managed lanes and frontage roads, and improves several intersections. The agency describes the work as intended to increase capacity and improve safety while bringing the roadway, bridges and frontage roads up to current design standards.
The broader I-35E corridor plan was originally estimated at $4.8 billion and has been divided into phases as funding became available. That corridor-wide figure is separate from Phase 2’s estimated $709 million cost.

How long the project is expected to last
The published dates conflict. TxDOT’s project FAQ says construction was expected to run from spring 2022 through winter 2025, while the October 6, 2026, Dallas Morning News excerpt says the work began in 2022 and is expected to finish in spring 2027. The newer date is a secondary report, not a confirmed current TxDOT end date; check TxDOT’s latest project updates before relying on a completion estimate.
