The report does not establish what caused the collapse or give a confirmed reopening date for the gallery.
What happened in Loveland
CBS Colorado reported that a space undergoing remodeling partially collapsed during the week of October 5, 2026. The adjoining Independence Gallery and Frame Shop shares a roof and wall with that space. Gallery owner Billie Colson said she heard a rumble and car alarms, then the city fire department told her to leave because the building was not structurally sound. Days later, she said she still had not been allowed inside.
“It was loud. Car alarms went off,” Colson said. “We knew something not good happened next door.”
Why the gallery closed—and what the closure means
The gallery was evacuated because of the building’s reported structural condition, not because the report identifies damage inside the shop or a specific hazard there. Its shared roof and wall connect it directly to the affected space, but no official inspection findings are included in the report.

The closure interrupted customer visits, framing work and pickup of completed orders. Colson also had two gallery tours planned for the month. She found a nearby photography studio at 926 North Lincoln Avenue to host at least one tour.
“If you’re not open, you can’t get customers coming in, and clients can’t pick up their framing, and you can’t do new framing,” Colson said. She compared the strain with an earlier period of downtown Loveland construction, saying it was “Harder than COVID”—her personal comparison, not a measured statistic.

What is known about reopening
Colson said the city had a plan to shore up the building and estimated it might be “probably a couple of weeks” before the gallery could return. That was her estimate, not a confirmed reopening date. The report does not provide a later status update.
“I’ve been communicating with the city, and they have a plan. And the plan is how to shore up the building. It’s going to be probably a couple of weeks before we can get back in there,” Colson said.

What caused the collapse?
The report does not say. It describes a partial collapse during remodeling but does not identify the precise work underway, explain the cause, or report findings from an official inspection. It also does not name the contractor or property owner, or report repair costs, insurance details or injuries. Those details should not be inferred from the fact that remodeling was taking place.
