The City of Guelph has scheduled geotechnical drilling on Ontario Street and Wood Street for October 29, October 30 and November 2, 2026. The City expects both directions of traffic to remain open, but warns of delays; sidewalks are expected to stay open and driveway access may be temporarily affected.
When the drilling is scheduled
MTE is scheduled to drill boreholes on Thursday, October 29; Friday, October 30; and Monday, November 2, 2026. The work is part of geotechnical investigations to support design for reconstruction of the two streets. The City of Guelph published the notice on October 6, 2026. Read the City’s construction notice.
What to expect on the road
Drilling equipment and work may temporarily obstruct portions of the roadway. The City does not plan a full road closure and expects traffic to continue in both directions; flagging may be used if needed. Drivers should allow for delays while the work is underway.
Sidewalks and driveway access
Sidewalks are expected to remain open during the drilling. Equipment movement and drilling may temporarily affect access to private driveways, so residents should be prepared for brief disruption.

Temporary storage of investigation material
The City says labelled barrels may be temporarily placed on City right-of-way at the Ontario Street and York Road intersection. They may contain excess drill cuttings, core spoils and purged groundwater generated by the investigation. The notice describes the barrel contents as non-hazardous.
How this relates to street reconstruction
The borehole work is an investigation to inform reconstruction design; it is not the reconstruction itself. The notice does not give a start date, duration or full scope for the eventual street reconstruction. Do not read the October and November drilling dates as a construction schedule.
