Construction workers from Ullal have asked Mangaluru traffic police and the senior regional transport officer (RTO) to address glare from intense vehicle headlights. Their requests include checking headlamp fittings and beam alignment, restricting high-intensity lights, and discouraging unnecessary high-beam use. Officials reportedly said they would review the issue; the report does not announce a ban or a new inspection programme.
Why are construction workers demanding headlight checks?
On 6 October 2026, a delegation from the Ullal zone committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) construction workers’ wing submitted a memorandum to Mangaluru city traffic police and the senior RTO. The group said powerful headlights and indiscriminate high-beam use can cause glare for oncoming drivers, particularly at night.
The delegation highlighted workers who commute home on two-wheelers after work. The Times of India report attributes the safety concern to the workers; it gives no accident figures, measured glare levels, or study estimate. What did the workers ask police and the RTO to check?
The reported requests address three related but distinct issues: the equipment fitted to a vehicle, the direction of its beam, and how the driver uses it.

Are bright LED headlights being banned in Mangaluru?
No ban is reported. The article records a demand for restrictions and checks, and says officials would review the matter and take appropriate action. That assurance does not establish that a rule has been adopted, that enforcement has started, or that completed inspections have taken place.
