If a Garaventa lift is not working, the right next step depends on its exact product and model. Start with that lift’s owner’s manual; do not apply Luma checks to a home elevator, Xpress II, or another model. The Luma manual permits only a short list of owner checks. If the applicable check does not resolve the symptom, stop and contact authorized service.
Before troubleshooting, identify the lift and its manual
Garaventa products do not share one universal reset procedure or fault-code chart. The company’s planning guides describe different controls and emergency equipment for home elevators and Xpress II lifts, while the Luma Owner’s Manual gives model-specific owner checks. Find the product and model information for your installed lift, then follow only its own owner instructions. See the Luma Owner’s Manual, the Home Elevator Design & Planning Guide, and the Xpress II Planning Guide.
The checks below apply to the Luma only. Do not open panels, alter wiring, bypass switches, remove safety features, or try emergency-lowering instructions from a guide for a different configuration. If a named check fails or the lift remains out of service, leave it stopped and call an authorized technician.
Garaventa Luma lift not working: checks the manual permits
Use this section only if the lift is a Luma. The manual’s troubleshooting table ties checks to the direction of travel and lift position; do not treat them as general instructions for other Garaventa models.

Luma goes up but will not come down
- Check the underpan sensor.
- Pull down on the underpan to ensure it is not stuck activated. If the lift still will not descend, stop and contact an authorized Savaria Dealer, as the manual directs.
Luma comes down but will not go up
- Check the power supply, including the breaker, cord, or battery, as applicable to the installation.
- Check whether the floor plug switches are stuck activated. If these checks do not resolve the problem, stop and contact an authorized dealer.
Luma will not move in either direction
- Check that the doors are closed and the Emergency Stop is pulled out.
- Depending on whether the lift is at the bottom or top landing, check the floor plug switches or underpan sensor as described in the Luma manual.
Do not force a door, manipulate a switch, or remove or defeat a safety feature. The manual states: “Only qualified technicians are authorized to perform repairs and maintenance. DO NOT manipulate, modify or remove any safety feature of the lift. If any issues persist, please contact your authorized Savaria Dealer.” This warning is from the Luma manual and applies to that model’s instructions.
What does a Garaventa lift beeping mean?

|---|---|
| One periodic beep every 10 seconds | The lift is not positioned in the charging station and has been left unattended. |
| Six intermittent beeps | The overload sensor is activated. |
| Continuous beep | The Emergency Stop or Alarm button is pressed. |
If the signal does not match these descriptions, or it continues after addressing the relevant basic status condition according to the manual, do not assume the same code applies to your model. Contact authorized service.
Why not try a generic reset or emergency-lowering procedure?
Emergency equipment and controls vary by product and installed configuration. Garaventa’s Home Elevator Design & Planning Guide describes a manual-lowering arrangement for a particular configuration and says the elevator must be turned off at the disconnect or home’s main panel before lowering the cab; it also directs readers to contact Garaventa Lift for details. That planning guide is not a substitute for instructions for the installed elevator, and it does not establish a general owner procedure. Do not attempt emergency lowering unless the instructions for your exact installation and qualified guidance authorize it.

Garaventa says warranty coverage for specified parts and materials is not a preventive-maintenance or service program. It also says proper preventive maintenance is needed for safe, proper operation. Periodic visits by factory-trained licensed technicians can include cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, and minor repairs. Ask Garaventa or an authorized dealer what service schedule and coverage apply to your installed lift.
