Its current product focus is the BF-DOAS, a commercial system designed to manage ventilation, humidity and temperature separately, with energy storage built in. Blue Frontier says the design can cut electricity and refrigerant impacts, but its headline performance figures are company claims—not a universal savings guarantee or a substitute for project-specific measurements.
What the 2022 headline refers to
The headline described Blue Frontier, a Florida-based company developing air conditioning around liquid-desiccant technology. It should be read as historical coverage, not as a newly announced residential product. Blue Frontier’s current product material centers on the BF-DOAS, a dedicated outdoor air system for commercial buildings. The company describes its approach as using a salt solution to support cooling and highlights separate control of humidity and temperature, ventilation, and embedded energy storage. Blue Frontier’s current product information is the source for its present description and performance claims.
For a construction team, the key distinction is that a dedicated outdoor air system handles ventilation air and moisture management as part of a larger building HVAC strategy. It is not simply a drop-in household air conditioner. Project design still needs to account for the building’s other heating and cooling equipment, controls, occupancy, climate, and ventilation requirements.
Why humidity control is central to the pitch
Air conditioning must address both sensible heat (temperature) and latent load (moisture). In humid conditions, removing moisture can require substantial energy, and a system that reaches a thermostat setpoint does not necessarily provide efficient dehumidification. The Clean Cooling Collaborative notes that humidity affects cooling performance and that conventional testing can oversimplify performance. That makes humidity removal and indoor comfort important comparison points, not just nameplate efficiency.

Blue Frontier presents independent humidity and temperature control as a way to manage comfort and cooling more precisely. Its site also hosts testimonials from a Waffle House innovation manager and a mechanical engineer at Westover Air Reserve Base; those are company-published testimonials about comfort, not independent performance verification.
What Blue Frontier claims—and what the figures mean
Blue Frontier’s site advertises “3X More Efficient,” “Up to 90% Reduction in Yearly Electricity Use,” and elsewhere says the system can reduce electricity consumption by over 60%, reduce refrigerant impact by 85%, and store up to six hours of energy. The company presents these figures with differing formulations and without a common baseline in the reviewed product material. They should not be combined into one expected result or applied to every building. Ask what conventional system, climate, operating schedule, building load, and measurement method each number uses.
Rank #2
- High Capacity Output: 48,000 BTU designed for large residential or light commercial spaces
- Efficient Operation: Up to 17.6 SEER2 for energy-conscious performance
- Strong Airflow Delivery: Provides up to 1690 CFM for full-area coverage
- Durable Components: Equipped with twin rotary compressor for long-term reliability
- Wide Operating Range: Performs in extreme outdoor temperatures for year-round use
The company says the BF-DOAS was independently evaluated in a University of California, Davis field study under CalNEXT, addressing real-world operation, energy performance, and peak-load shifting against conventional DX-DOAS systems. Blue Frontier’s summary does not establish specific measured results, so no quantitative field-study outcome should be inferred from that description alone.
Blue Frontier also says its system eliminates high-global-warming-potential refrigerants. Its climate case therefore rests on more than electricity use: refrigerant lifecycle impact and stored energy shifting demand away from peak periods may matter as well. The actual climate benefit depends on measured system performance, the local grid’s emissions, operating conditions, and the equipment used as the comparison.

Where the company says it has installed systems
Blue Frontier identifies deployments at Barry University in Miami Shores, a community center in Largo, a Waffle House in Macon, and an office building in Riviera Beach. These examples show that the company reports commercial installations in several building settings; they do not demonstrate that every building type, climate, or project will achieve the same performance. The company’s site offers representative and order inquiry paths, but public material reviewed does not establish complete geographic availability, lead times, or installed pricing.
How to assess the system for a construction project
A useful evaluation compares the proposed system with the actual alternative for the same building, schedule, and climate—not with an unspecified baseline. Include the following in design review, procurement, and commissioning discussions:

Sector context explains why these questions matter but does not predict a project’s results. The Clean Cooling Collaborative projects that more than 4 billion people could face deadly heat conditions by 2030, and that 3 billion additional room air conditioners may be installed globally by 2050. It also projects global space-cooling energy use could grow 3.5 times by 2050. Its figures of up to 5,400 TWh per year in electricity savings, 2,000 GW of avoided additional grid capacity, and 68 gigatons of cumulative emissions mitigation by 2050 describe potential impacts from deploying super-efficient air conditioners, not realized savings or Blue Frontier outcomes.

The current BF-DOAS material presents a commercial building system, and the listed installations are commercial or institutional settings. The reviewed information does not establish a household product, residential pricing, or broad consumer availability. A homeowner should not assume that a commercial dedicated outdoor air system is suitable as a direct replacement for a residential air conditioner.
