Science advertises a 15-minute experience, but that is the company’s stated session time—not an independently verified guarantee that every user will be clean in 15 minutes.
What is Japan’s human washing machine?
The Mirai Human Washing Machine is a bathing pod designed to wash and immerse a person in an automated experience. It is not a conventional laundry machine, nor is it simply a shower with a futuristic name. Science describes it as a future-oriented bathing and wellness concept combining water, fine bubbles, sensors, and visual content. Science’s product page describes the product and its advertised experience.
What does the 15-minute claim mean?
Fifteen minutes is the experience duration advertised by Science. The available official descriptions do not establish that this timing has been independently tested, that it applies universally, or that it proves a particular cleaning result. Treat it as the manufacturer’s stated session length rather than a measured performance guarantee.
How does the Mirai Human Washing Machine work?
According to Science, the apparatus uses fine bubbles and microbubbles as part of its washing process. Sensors read biometric signals, which inform the experience, while video or other content is adjusted with AI. The company describes a sequence that includes filling, sensing, a bubble shower, draining, and further showering. These are manufacturer feature descriptions; the reviewed sources do not establish comparative cleaning performance or independently validated medical or psychological benefits. Science’s explanation of its fine-bubble technology gives its account of the system.

Balance the spinner to prevent it from losing balance, hitting the inner walls, stopping work. 3. If the machine doesn’t drain, check that the water hose is not clogged or bent, which may prevent the spinner from working properly. 4. Make sure the drain height is less than 45 inches.
From Expo ’70 concept to Expo 2025 exhibit
Science connects the modern apparatus to the Ultrasonic Bath—also known as the human washing machine—shown at the 1970 Osaka Expo. Its technology page presents the Mirai as a modern evolution of that earlier idea. The 2025 machine was presented at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion during Expo 2025.
Science says the Expo unit was initially built as a one-off display. In an October 10, 2025 announcement, the company said it later prepared production capacity and decided to sell the product after receiving interest. The same release puts the cost of creating that original display unit at approximately ¥100 million. That figure is the reported cost of the one-off Expo machine, not a consumer price. Science’s October 10, 2025 announcement provides those details.
