Which Steam Shot models were recalled?
The 2024 U.S. recall covers BISSELL Steam Shot handheld steam cleaners in model series 39N7 and 2994. The model number is printed on the rating label on the bottom of the cleaner. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says about 3.2 million units were sold in the United States; about 355,000 more were sold in Canada. Those figures describe this specific recall, not all steam-cleaner recalls. See the CPSC’s 2024 BISSELL recall notice.
Why were the cleaners recalled?
The CPSC says recalled Steam Shot cleaners can unexpectedly expel hot water or steam while heating or during use, creating a burn hazard. BISSELL reported 183 incidents of hot water or steam escaping, including 157 reports of minor burn injuries, according to the CPSC notice. These are reports associated with the recalled models, not a failure rate or evidence that every unit malfunctions.
What should owners of a recalled 2024 Steam Shot do?
- Stop using the cleaner. Do not continue using it while you check on a remedy.
- Contact BISSELL through its current recall page. CPSC directs consumers to register and follow BISSELL’s instructions. Those instructions have included cutting the cord and uploading a photo showing the model number and cut cord; check the live page for the current process.
- Select the remedy offered for your unit. The CPSC notice lists a replacement Steam Shot cleaner with attachments, a $60 BISSELL.com credit, or a $40 refund for each recalled cleaner. Confirm current eligibility and terms with BISSELL before sending information or disposing of the unit.
