PuroAir describes the Mega Filter as having a pre-filter, a MERV 13 layer, and activated carbon. The manufacturer lists multiple nominal sizes, including 20 × 20 × 1 inch and 20 × 25 × 1 inch. These specifications come from PuroAir’s Mega Filter product page; independent airflow, pressure-drop, or filtration testing for this specific product was not established.
Check fit before ordering
Use the size selector on PuroAir’s product page, then compare the selection with the filter currently installed in your system. Do not assume a listed size fits because it is common or close to your measurement: match the dimensions and thickness required by the filter slot, and follow the HVAC system’s requirements. If the existing filter is difficult to access or the fit is unclear, consult the system documentation or an HVAC professional.

What MERV 13 does—and does not—tell you
MERV 13 is the rating PuroAir assigns to the Mega Filter. A rating by itself does not establish how this particular filter affects airflow in a particular HVAC system. For a construction or renovation setting, where dust and system use can vary, confirm that the filter is suitable for the equipment rather than treating a higher-sounding filtration specification as an automatic upgrade.
PuroAir 240: features and limits of the coverage claim
PuroAir describes the 240 as a three-layer-filter room purifier with a pre-screen, HEPA layer, and activated carbon. Listed features include an air-quality sensor and indicator, automatic adjustment based on air quality, and a filter-replacement notification. The manufacturer states coverage of up to 1,000 square feet and a lowest noise level of 24 dB on its PuroAir 240 product page.

Those figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. “Up to 1,000 square feet” should not be read as a promise of a particular air-change rate or identical cleaning performance in every room. The product information cited here does not establish independent clean-air delivery, usable-setting noise, or energy-use measurements, so buyers who need those comparisons should seek tests that report the measurement conditions and purifier setting.
The PuroAir 240 replacement filter and maintenance
The 240 uses a separate replacement filter that PuroAir identifies as compatible with the model. Its described layers are a pre-filter, HEPA layer, and activated carbon. PuroAir’s replacement-filter page gives differing maintenance guidance: product copy promotes a 90-day replacement and auto-delivery schedule; its FAQ recommends replacement every 2 to 4 months; and the same FAQ says use in low-pollution conditions may allow up to six months. Replacing the filter
- Unplug the PuroAir 240.
- Open the filter compartment.
- Remove the used filter and fit the replacement identified for the PuroAir 240.
- Close the compartment and reset the filter indicator as directed by the manufacturer.
Can you use a generic filter?
PuroAir’s product information identifies a model-specific replacement, but the available material does not establish that every generic replacement is incompatible. Nor does it establish that a generic will fit or perform equivalently. If considering one, verify the model fit and relevant filtration specifications with the seller and weigh that uncertainty against using the manufacturer-identified filter.

- For the Mega Filter: verify exact dimensions and thickness, system compatibility, the claimed filtration rating, any available airflow or pressure-drop evidence, and replacement cost.
- For the PuroAir 240: look for independent room-cleaning or clean-air-delivery results, noise at settings you would actually use, energy consumption, replacement-filter availability and cost, and ease of maintenance.
- For either: separate vendor specifications from measured comparisons. The product pages cited here establish what PuroAir says about its products; they do not establish comparative performance against other filters or purifiers.
