The best stand for a washing machine is the one approved for your exact washer model and suited to your room—not a universal model. Start by checking compatibility and mounting instructions, then choose between a taller pedestal, often with a drawer, and a lower adjustable stand. Measure the installed height and clearances before buying.
Choose the stand type for the job
A pedestal raises a front-load washer or dryer so its door sits higher, which can make loading and unloading easier. Some pedestals include a storage drawer. Whirlpool describes its pedestal options as 10 to 15.5 inches tall; its general guidance puts typical pedestals at 10 to 16 inches tall, 27 to 28 inches wide, and 26 to 29 inches deep. A pedestal and a stacking kit are not interchangeable: a pedestal raises one appliance, while a stacking kit connects a dryer above a washer. Check compatibility before comparing features
Pedestals are not universal. Check the washer and stand model numbers against the manufacturer’s compatibility information and installation instructions. Also compare width, depth, attachment points, and the required mounting method. A stand that looks close in size is not necessarily designed to attach safely to your appliance. Pedestals are intended for front-load appliances. Maytag advises against using one with a top-load washer: the additional height can make it harder to reach into the tub. If the exact appliance model is not listed as compatible, do not assume a brand match alone is enough.
Measure the complete installed setup
Measure the appliance and proposed stand together, not just the stand by itself. Check the resulting height and footprint against the room, including the washer door’s swing and space needed to reach hookups. Also account for ceilings, shelves, countertops, and nearby cabinetry. - Measure the washer’s width, depth, and height, then confirm the stand’s matching dimensions and approved fit.
- Allow enough room for the washer door to open fully and for loading and unloading.
- Check overhead clearance at the final appliance height, including shelves and countertops.
- Confirm hoses, drain connections, and other hookups remain reachable and are not strained or blocked.
- For a stacked arrangement, follow the appliance and stacking-kit instructions rather than adding a pedestal.
Decide how much added height you want
A taller pedestal can bring the door closer to a comfortable reach, but the right height depends on the people using the machine and the room’s layout. Consider the final door position and whether you can comfortably load and unload without the appliance becoming too high. Whirlpool’s listed 10-to-15.5-inch pedestal range and its broader typical range describe products generally; neither substitutes for checking the dimensions of a compatible model.
A low adjustable stand is a different kind of option. For example, Electrolux India lists the PN333 for washing machines, washer-dryers, and dryers, with six resizing levels from 410 mm to 560 mm and overall dimensions of 560 × 600 × 90 mm. Those specifications describe that product, not a universal fit. The page does not establish compatibility with every appliance, price, or availability in every market. Level the appliance and stand as instructed
Follow the installation instructions for both the appliance and the stand, including their leveling and attachment requirements. Whirlpool notes that improperly balanced adjustable leveling legs may contribute to shaking. Check that the completed setup is level using the method in the appliance instructions; do not treat a stand’s adjustability as a substitute for proper installation.
