Why road and water work are happening together
The City of Castle Pines is rebuilding westbound Castle Pines Parkway while the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District replaces a water pipeline beneath the corridor. The district says its work is coordinated with the city’s roadway upgrades. At an April 27, 2026 board meeting, officials described a joint construction contract intended to coordinate the work and minimize community disruption. That stated goal does not establish how disruptive residents have found the project in practice.
The coordination matters because replacing a buried waterline and rebuilding the road surface affect the same corridor. Doing both under a coordinated effort can avoid treating them as entirely separate construction projects, though the available records do not quantify any disruption avoided. The district’s current-project page describes the waterline work; the April 27 board meeting records the joint-contract discussion.
What changed in the road project
A July 29, 2026 update from The Castle Pines Connection says the City Council expanded the roadway work to replace concrete with asphalt from Forest Park Drive to the Buffalo Trail roundabout. That section had initially been scheduled for maintenance, but crews found the concrete more damaged than expected. The update said the added work would fit within the existing schedule.

The update reported an additional $452,000 for the expanded roadway work and a $3.8 million total budget for the 2026 project. Those figures were reported by the outlet based on information submitted by the city; they are not presented here as independently audited totals. The reported project span was from Monarch Boulevard to the Buffalo Trail roundabout.
Timing and expected effects on residents
The district says the current water-pipeline replacement phase began June 1, 2026, and is expected to finish by fall 2026. The July 29 local update said the wider Castle Pines Parkway project was still forecast to finish by early fall. These are forecasts reported at those times, not confirmation that the work has since been completed.

The district says the city will handle necessary traffic detours. It also warns that a few homes in Canterbury Park HOA and nearby neighborhoods may experience temporary water-service outages. The district says it will notify affected neighbors directly and through text alerts. Residents seeking current notices can check the district’s project page.
A documented safety concern—and the response
At the district’s April 27, 2026 board meeting, participant James raised a concern about an uneven road edge near a pump station. He described a drop of roughly 2 to 3 inches and said drivers were going around it and onto the wrong side of the road. That measurement is his description in the meeting, not a published engineering measurement.

District manager Nathan Travis said he would find out why the condition was there and arrange traffic control or a patch. The meeting record documents that exchange, but it does not establish whether or when the proposed response was carried out. Nor does it show that this was the particular concern addressed in a separate article implied by the original headline.
Later in the meeting, a participant asked when Castle Pines Parkway construction would begin, clarifying the question concerned the other side of the road and waterline replacement. Travis said there was not yet a specific date and gave mid-May or early June as the target. The district’s current-project page later records June 1 as the start of the current phase.
