The right full-size barbecue depends on how you cook: choose charcoal for hands-on live-fire control, gas for a more convenient everyday setup, or pellets for powered temperature management and smoking versatility. T3’s June 2026 guide names the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600, Napoleon FreeStyle 425 SIB and Traeger Ironwood 650 as category picks, respectively. These are attributed recommendations, not results from independent testing for this article; check the exact model configuration and current availability before buying.

At a glance: three full-size grill options

Fuel and model Why consider it Evidence and caveat
Charcoal: Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 For buyers who want charcoal cooking with fan-assisted, app-enabled temperature management, and a format T3 says can grill, sear and smoke low and slow. T3’s 2026 guide reports 600 square inches of cooking area and a 70 kg weight. Its article conflicts over whether the recommendation is the Series 600 or Series 560, so verify the listing and model before purchase. T3’s 2026 barbecue guide
Gas: Napoleon FreeStyle 425 SIB For buyers who prioritize quick, straightforward grilling and want four burners with side burners. T3 names it its gas pick and describes fast ignition. The cited material does not establish a current price or a measured performance comparison against other grills. T3’s 2026 barbecue guide
Pellet: Traeger Ironwood 650 For buyers who want powered temperature control and a grill that T3 describes for grilling, roasting and smoking. T3 reports a 418-square-inch main cooking area, a removable 231-square-inch warming rack, Wi-Fi, a meat probe and Super Smoke. Confirm current manufacturer specifications and configuration before buying. T3’s 2026 barbecue guide

For a simpler charcoal reference point, Weber’s official Master-Touch 26 page lists a 26-inch stainless-steel grate, adjustable dampers, a hinged grate, a lid thermometer and an ash catcher; Weber advertises capacity for 8–10 people. That serving figure is the manufacturer’s claim, not a guarantee for every menu or cooking layout. Weber Master-Touch 26

Choose fuel to match how you cook

Charcoal: hands-on live fire

Charcoal suits cooks who value managing a live fire and airflow. That control comes with more tending than an appliance that automates temperature changes. A conventional kettle-style grill such as the Master-Touch 26 uses adjustable dampers; the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 adds a charcoal hopper, fan and app-enabled control according to T3. These are different approaches within the same fuel category, not proof that one delivers better flavor.

Gas: convenience for frequent grilling

Gas is a practical starting point if you want to light the grill and cook without managing charcoal or replenishing a pellet hopper. The Napoleon FreeStyle 425 SIB is T3’s 2026 gas pick, described as a four-burner model with fast ignition and side burners. Decide whether you will use those extra burners: added features matter most when they serve a regular task, such as preparing a sauce or side dish.

  • Pro-Level Power Meets Smart Design - Unlock restaurant-quality performance in your backyard with 30,450 BTUs of grilling power. Three stainless steel burners (10,150 BTU each) work in perfect harmony with porcelain-enameled flame tamers to deliver even heat distribution – no more hot spots, just perfectly seared steaks and juicy burgers every time.
  • Built to Outlast Your Backyard Parties - Heavy-duty foldable side tables (15 lbs capacity each) transform from spice stations to compact storage in seconds. The wire cooking grates heat up quickly and are easy to scrape clean after each use – no rust, no heavy maintenance.
  • Easy Assembly & Mobility for Hassle-Free Setup - No complicated tools or confusing instructions – this grill assembles in minutes with pre-drilled parts and clear step-by-step guidance. The heavy-duty 6" wheels make it easy to roll across your patio, deck, or lawn, so you can position it wherever you need. When the party's over, the foldable side tables collapse for compact storage.
  • Smart Features for Effortless Grilling - The ignition system means no more struggling with matches or lighters – just turn the knob and start cooking. The built-in thermometer ensures precise temperature control, so you can grill with confidence. Whether you're a beginner or a master, this grill makes outdoor cooking simple and enjoyable.
  • Smart Grease Management for Easier Cleanup - The full-size grease tray features a curved, angled design that directs oil toward the center and down into the removable catch pan – no more grease pooling on the tray or dripping onto your deck. This means fewer flare-ups, less mess, and more time enjoying your BBQ. The wire cooking grates are also easy to scrape clean after each use.

Pellets: powered control with smoking versatility

A pellet grill feeds wood pellets and uses powered controls, so it requires access to electricity as well as a supply of compatible pellets. T3 describes the Ironwood 650 as suitable for grilling, roasting and smoking, with Wi-Fi and a meat probe. That feature set may suit cooks who want to monitor a longer cook, but it also means managing both fuel supply and power—unlike a basic charcoal kettle.

Size the cooking area for your real meals

Start with the food you cook at once, not a headline claim about how many people a grill serves. Grate shape, warming racks and the mix of direct and indirect cooking affect usable space. A large household may need room for separate heat zones; a smaller group may value a more manageable footprint over unused grate area.

  • Consumer Reports’ 2026 buying guide defines large gas grills as typically fitting 28 or more four-inch burgers, and midsized models as fitting 18–28. These are capacity conventions, not promised serving counts. Consumer Reports 2026 grill buying guide
  • Weber advertises the Master-Touch 26 for 8–10 people. Treat that as a manufacturer’s estimate and consider the actual menu and cooking arrangement. Weber Master-Touch 26
  • T3 lists the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 at 600 square inches and the Traeger Ironwood 650 at 418 square inches on the main grate plus a removable 231-square-inch warming rack. Those figures describe different layouts; a warming rack is not interchangeable with the main cooking surface. T3’s 2026 barbecue guide

Match temperature control to your cooking style

For varied food, compare a grill’s usable temperature range and control rather than relying on burner power alone. Consumer Reports advises checking temperature-range ratings and warns that BTU by itself does not guarantee faster preheating, better searing or better cooking. Its 2026 buying guide suggests spending $300–$700 on a gas grill that can handle most tasks; this is general gas-grill buying guidance, not a current quote for the Napoleon or a budget for every full-size grill. Consumer Reports 2026 grill buying guide

  • Direct grilling: Choose a layout that leaves enough grate space for the food you cook together.
  • Searing: Look for evidence about the model’s heat control and cooking performance, not just a high BTU number.
  • Indirect cooking and smoking: Check that the specific grill supports the temperatures and setup your recipes require. T3 describes the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 and Traeger Ironwood 650 for low-and-slow smoking; that is T3’s product assessment, not an independent test here. T3’s 2026 barbecue guide

Check features, footprint and upkeep before buying

Useful features vary with the way you cook. A side burner can help with sides, a rotisserie matters if you plan to use one, and app control or a probe can make monitoring easier. These features add little value if they go unused. Napoleon’s product finder prompts buyers to consider fuel, grill format, party size, side burner, rotisserie, finish, grate material and budget. Even if it's your very first time using a gas grill, you can assemble it quickly and effortlessly with no time wasted.
  • Fuel and location: Confirm whether the exact model uses propane, natural gas, charcoal or pellets, and whether your intended setup supports it.
  • Cleanup: Check how the model handles ash or grease and whether its grate is practical to remove and clean.
  • Space and handling: Measure the storage and cooking footprint. The 70 kg weight T3 reports for the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 is a useful reminder that full-size grills can be substantial; check access and assembly requirements for the exact listing. T3’s 2026 barbecue guide
  • Ownership costs: Compare current grill prices, fuel, accessories, warranty terms and replacement parts for the precise model and region. The cited general budget guidance is not a substitute for a current quote.

Prices and stock change. Napoleon’s U.S. page displayed a $1,649 MSRP for its Professional 605 charcoal cart when accessed in 2026; that is a volatile manufacturer-listed price for a different charcoal grill, not a price for the three category picks. Napoleon Professional 605 Charcoal Cart

What the recommendations do—and do not—establish

T3’s June 1, 2026 guide supplies the three category recommendations, but its charcoal section is internally inconsistent: the selection and headline identify the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600, while a later summary calls the Series 560 the best charcoal barbecue and says the 600 replaces the 560. Because the cited page does not resolve that naming conflict cleanly, treat the 600 as T3’s stated top selection, not a definitive model listing; verify the exact model, configuration and retailer listing before purchase.
