At 527.7 m tall, it remains tenth among completed buildings worldwide in the CTBUH Skyscraper Center’s 2026 ranking. Its distinctive profile takes inspiration from the zun, an ancient Chinese ceremonial vessel.
What opened in Beijing—and when?
The headline refers to CITIC Tower in Beijing’s central business district. New Atlas reported on October 3, 2019, that the building was officially open for business. That is the dated opening report; it does not establish a current public visitor schedule for the tower or its observation deck.
The building is also known as China Zun, a name tied to the vessel that inspired its form. CTBUH’s Skyscraper Center lists it as Beijing’s tallest completed building.
How tall is CITIC Tower, and where does it rank?
The measurements differ slightly because they come from separate listings and dates, but are consistent when rounded:

| CTBUH Skyscraper Center, accessed October 4, 2026 | 527.7 m (1,731 ft), as listed by CTBUH | Tenth among completed buildings worldwide in CTBUH’s 2026 list |
Rankings depend on the source and the set of buildings being compared. These figures support calling CITIC Tower one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers—not the tallest.
What is inside the tower?
New Atlas reported 108 floors and 437,000 sq m (about 4.7 million sq ft) of interior floorspace in 2019. Most of that space was office accommodation. The report named CITIC Group and CITIC Bank as headquarters occupants and noted an observation deck. The 2019 report does not confirm that the deck is currently open to visitors.
How does the design draw on the zun?
The tower’s shape references the zun, an ancient Chinese ceremonial drinking vessel. Its outline narrows around the middle, then broadens toward the top. The inspiration is an architectural interpretation, not a claim that the building replicates a historic vessel.

KPF Design Director Li Lei described the design intention this way: “We abstracted the zun’s elegant form and focused on its gradual transformation, applying this motif across immense scales: from the tower’s overall massing, all the way down to its curtain wall, entry vestibule, and interior detailing.”
