North Forest Road between Sheridan Drive and Indian Trail Road in Amherst is scheduled to close during normal business hours beginning Monday, October 5, 2026, for an Erie County Water Authority waterline replacement. The Town of Amherst estimates the work will take 3–4 weeks and says detours will be posted.
Where is North Forest Road closed?
The closure affects North Forest Road between Sheridan Drive and Indian Trail Road. The Town’s September 30, 2026 announcement identifies those endpoints but does not give a detour route or map. Town of Amherst announcement
When does the closure start, and how long will it last?
The scheduled start is Monday, October 5, 2026, during “normal business hours.” The notice does not define those hours. The Town estimates the waterline work will take 3–4 weeks; that is an estimate, not a confirmed reopening date. The announcement was issued before the scheduled start, so it does not confirm whether the work began on time or whether later updates changed the schedule.
What is the detour?
The Town says detours will be posted to help motorists navigate around the work area, but the announcement does not name the streets on the route. Follow signs at the site and check for a current Town of Amherst update before traveling if you need route-specific information.

Why is the road closing?
The Erie County Water Authority is replacing a waterline. The Town says the closure is needed to allow that project to be completed.
