There is no evidence here to support nine independently tested picks, so this guide does not invent a nine-model ranking or claim hands-on testing. Instead, it explains what to look for and identifies six models named for distinct uses by Food Network, Bon Appétit, and Reviewed. Their picks reflect those publishers’ reviews, not tests conducted for this article.
What a food processor is good at
A food processor can chop, slice, shred, puree, and emulsify ingredients. Depending on the model and attachments, it may also knead dough or handle other prep work. It is most useful when you regularly prepare quantities or textures that would make knife work tedious: shredded vegetables, chopped ingredients, purees, or dough.
Performance is task-specific. A processor that chops vegetables evenly may be less convenient for dough, and included accessories vary. Treat a model’s suitability for each task separately rather than assuming that a strong overall review means it excels at everything.
Six models cited by reviewers
These are examples from published guides, not a shared head-to-head ranking. Food Network’s category labels belong to its 2026 guide; Bon Appétit and Reviewed make their own selections.
#1 Best Overall
- Built-in bowl scraper saves time. Quickly process ingredients without stopping to use a spatula. Simply move the scraper from side-to-side to scrape the bowl while the food processor is running or the power is off — no need to remove the lid.
- Slice, shred, chop, mix and puree with 2 versatile attachments. The Hamilton Beach food processor gives you 5 processing functions and includes a stainless steel slicing/shredding disc and chopping/pureeing blade so you can tackle every job with ease.
- Powerful 450 watt motor. Make healthy salads, homemade salsa, hearty acai bowls and more. The 450 watt motor easily powers through the toughest ingredients, so you can spend less time processing and more time enjoying.
- Precise control with 2 speeds plus pulse. The low and high speeds plus pulse give you the control you need for a variety of recipes. Use the high speed when you need more power and select the low speed for processing or mixing delicate foods.
- 10 cup bowl capacity. The generous 10 cup bowl fits large volumes of food all at once, and the large feed chute saves you time by reducing the need to pre-cut food before processing or using as a vegetable chopper.
| Model | Published review context | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Breville Sous Chef 12-Cup | Food Network’s Best Overall; Bon Appétit’s leading pick | Bon Appétit highlights its extra-wide feed chute and stable operation, while noting its heavy weight and plastic components it does not recommend putting in the dishwasher. |
| KitchenAid 7-Cup | Food Network’s Best Compact | A compact designation may suit limited storage or smaller batches, but check the bowl’s usable capacity against your usual recipes. |
| Hamilton Beach Stack & Snap | Food Network’s Best Budget | Confirm the current price, included tools, and exact model details; prices and package contents can change. |
| Breville Sous Chef 16-Cup | Food Network’s Best Large-Capacity | Consider whether larger batches justify the counter and storage space the appliance requires. |
| Ninja Professional Plus | Food Network’s Best Value | “Best Value” is Food Network’s category label, not a guarantee of the lowest current price. |
| Magimix by Robot-Coupe 14-Cup | Food Network’s Best for Multi-Tasking | Check which attachments come with the specific package and whether they cover the tasks you expect to do. |
Other reviewers identify different strengths. Bon Appétit names the Cuisinart Custom 14-Cup as runner-up to the Breville Sous Chef 12. Reviewed selects the KitchenAid KFP1318 overall and calls the Cuisinart DFP-14BCNY a strong choice for pizza dough. Reviewed reports that the KitchenAid chops and processes quickly and evenly but requires attention during dough kneading. That task-specific caveat is a reminder not to generalize from one kind of prep to another.
Choose capacity and footprint for your routine
Start with the size of the batches you actually make, not the largest number printed beside a product name. Bowl capacity does not by itself establish how much food can be processed effectively in one batch. Small quantities may not reach the blade consistently in a large bowl, while a small bowl may require several rounds for family-sized recipes.
Rank #2
- Simply stack and press to chop: The patented stack & press design makes it easy to assemble and use. Simply press the lid to chop and release to stop. Since all you do is stack the lid on top of the bowl, no difficult twist-locking is needed.
- Perfect size for everyday use: Chop and mix up to 3 cups of ingredients every day of the week with this 3 cup chopper. It's the perfect size for everyday use, yet small enough for easy storage.
- Easily chop, puree and emulsify with stainless steel blades: Durable stainless steel blades make easy work of a multitude of ingredients including onions, carrots and nuts. Oil dispenser on lid makes it easy to emulsify dressings, dips and sauces.
- Easy to clean: The bowl, lid and removable blades of the Hamilton Beach chopper are all dishwasher safe.
- Power through tough ingredients: This small food chopper has a 350 watt motor to provide all the power you need to prepare all types of food including onions, nuts, herbs, hummus, dressings and homemade baby food.
- For occasional, small-batch prep: prioritize manageable storage and a bowl suited to the amounts you make.
- For frequent or large-batch prep: a larger bowl may reduce the need to work in batches, but check the appliance’s footprint, weight, and storage needs.
- For dough: verify that the exact model includes a suitable attachment and assess reviews of its dough performance specifically.
Compare models by the work they must do
Before choosing, list your common jobs: chopping, slicing, shredding, pureeing, emulsifying, or kneading. Then look for evidence about those particular tasks. Published test methods vary: Food Network describes evaluating pesto, setup, manuals, and attachments; Reviewed reports tests including onions, parsley, almonds, potatoes, tomatoes, pepperoni, mozzarella, julienne cuts, and pizza dough when a kneading attachment is included. Which? describes practical tests covering slicing, chopping, grating, mixing, whipping, and kneading.
Because the methods and tested tasks differ, the results are not a direct comparison across publishers. Use them to understand the kinds of performance each guide considered, then seek model-specific evidence for your own priorities.

Check setup, cleanup, and storage before buying
A processor that is awkward to assemble or clean can become a nuisance even if it handles prep well. Look at how the bowl and lid lock, whether the controls are clear, whether the machine stays stable under load, and how much attention a task requires. Check the care instructions for each component rather than assuming every removable part is dishwasher-safe.
Also account for where the machine and its accessories will live. A larger unit may be cumbersome to move, and multiple blades or discs need safe, accessible storage. Confirm the supplied attachments and replacement-part compatibility for the exact model number before purchase.
Rank #4

How to make a short list
- Write down your regular tasks. Separate everyday jobs such as slicing or chopping from occasional jobs such as kneading dough.
- Set a realistic batch size. Match the bowl to typical recipes, while allowing for the fact that nominal capacity is not the same as effective working capacity.
- Check the space. Compare the appliance’s dimensions and weight with your available counter, cabinet, and accessory storage.
- Read task-specific reviews. Look for results on the ingredients and jobs you care about; do not treat performance on one task as proof of performance on another.
- Verify the exact package. Confirm the current model, included blades and discs, care guidance, price, and compatibility of replacement parts with the manufacturer or retailer.
Food processor or blender?
They overlap on some pureeing jobs, but they are not interchangeable for every task. A processor is designed for jobs such as chopping, slicing, and shredding with the appropriate blade or disc. A blender is generally the more relevant tool when your priority is blending liquids. Choose according to the prep you do most, and check the specific appliance’s intended uses.
What the published test counts mean
Food Network says its shopping experts have tested more than 24 food processors over time; that is a cumulative count, not the number tested for its 2026 guide. Which? reports testing 26 food processors on a page last checked in July 2026; that figure refers to its test program. Neither number establishes that the six models above were tested together under one shared method.
