Its results also point to three alternatives: Calphalon for easy release and even browning, Hiware as its value pick, and Food Network’s Textured Performance Series pan for no-bake cheesecake. The key trade-off is water-bath performance: none of these four should be treated as guaranteed leakproof.

The recommendations below are Food Network Kitchen’s findings from its roundup updated February 5, 2026. Its tests covered the listed 9-inch pans and two cheesecake preparations; they are not a guarantee of performance with every recipe or pan size.

What the tests do—and do not—tell you
Food Network Kitchen bought nine pans at different price points and assessed features such as dimensions, weight, material, wall height, clasp operation, and whether instructions were included. It made one no-bake cheesecake and one water-bath cheesecake in each pan, then assessed release, sticking, shape retention, and slicing. The 9-inch size was chosen because it is commonly specified for cheesecakes and other dishes.
That gives the results a useful but specific scope: they compare performance in those two cheesecake tests. A pan that released one cheesecake cleanly is not thereby proven superior for every batter, oven, or use. Nor does a good water-bath result establish that a pan is leakproof under all conditions.

How to choose for a water bath
Check the whole pan against your roasting pan
Nominal size is not enough. Food Network Kitchen found that some tested pans did not fit a traditional 9-by-13-inch roasting pan, and the Nordic Ware pick’s wider diameter was an issue in that setup. Measure the outside diameter of the springform pan, including any lip or clasp projection, and compare it with the usable interior dimensions of the vessel you plan to use.
Look at how the base meets the wall
Food Network Kitchen says a base and wall that interlock tend to resist leakage better than a wall that simply aligns flush with the base. That is a design clue, not a waterproofing guarantee: in its tests, the Hiware and Food Network Textured Performance Series pans admitted some water, while the Calphalon had some filling stick after its water-bath bake.

For an extra safeguard with a pan you already own, America’s Test Kitchen Reviews advises wrapping it in foil or placing a rimmed baking sheet underneath to catch drips. Those measures can help contain leakage; they do not change the pan’s seal.
When the ranking may not match your recipe
Different tests can favor different pans. Epicurious’s December 2023 comparison tested nine models with a high-temperature Basque cheesecake and chose Fat Daddio’s 9-inch Aluminum Springform Pan; its reviewer reported that only two pans handled that particular challenge. That is a different recipe and an older comparison, not a direct contradiction of Food Network Kitchen’s 2026 cheesecake results.

For cakes, tarts, ice cream cakes, deep-dish pizza, or savory bakes, consider wall height and capacity as well as the nominal diameter. Food Network Kitchen’s tests were cheesecake-focused, so they do not establish which pick is best for those other dishes. Nordic Ware’s current product page describes its 9-inch pan as carbon steel with a PFAS-free silicone coating and a 10-cup capacity; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test findings, and confirm the precise model before relying on them.

Food Network Kitchen’s February 2026 roundup reported a 500°F oven limit and a 10-year warranty for its Nordic Ware pick. Nordic Ware’s currently reviewed product page instead lists an oven-safe limit of 425°F and showed the pan out of stock; its page also gives inconsistent warranty durations in different sections. Because the stated oven limits and warranty details conflict, verify the exact model or SKU and current manufacturer guidance before relying on either specification. Do not assume one set of figures applies to every version or listing.
