A useful setup may include a tool set and a properly sized screen, with storage or other accessories added to suit the space. What to compare before choosing fireplace accessories
Start with the fireplace and the way you use it. For tools, compare which pieces are included, their length, the stand’s footprint, and construction. For screens, measure the opening and compare the dimensions and design with your priorities: spark containment, access, adjustability, visibility, or decoration. For storage, check the available space and whether the item is intended for indoor or outdoor use.

What is included in a fireplace tool set?
Common sets combine a poker, shovel, tongs, brush, and stand, but contents vary. Check the individual listing rather than assuming every set includes all five pieces. What size fireplace screen do I need?
Measure the fireplace opening, then compare those measurements with the screen’s stated dimensions. Consider whether you need a screen that sits flat or one that can angle around the opening, and leave enough room for the arrangement to work as intended. Do not assume a screen will fit based on a product photo or a general size label.
Folding screens
Folding screens have hinged panels that can be angled around an opening. That adjustability can help when the opening or surrounding hearth calls for a shaped arrangement; confirm the model’s measurements and intended placement.

French or single-panel screens
French or single-panel screens are generally flat. Compare the panel’s dimensions with the opening and consider whether a flat design suits the access and appearance you want.
Are all fireplace screens designed to stop sparks?
No. A decorative screen is not automatically a spark guard. Some screens have mesh intended to help contain sparks; others are decorative only. Confirm that the specific model has protective mesh and is explicitly intended for use with an active fire. Which other fireplace accessories are worth considering?
Log holders and wood carts
Use available space and intended placement—indoors or outdoors—to compare storage options. Check the product’s stated use rather than assuming a holder suits every location.
Ash buckets
An ash bucket is a dedicated accessory for handling fireplace ash. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the product and your fireplace before use.

Match any item to the fireplace type and the maker’s instructions rather than assuming universal compatibility, particularly for gas fireplaces or other appliances.
