Start with the voltage and the exact model number on your Bosch tool—not just the Bosch name. Then check the battery or charger’s Bosch “Works With” information or manual. Bosch’s GAL12V/18V-80 is specifically listed for Bosch 12V and 18V lithium-ion batteries, but that dual-voltage support is a feature of this charger, not a rule for all Bosch chargers.
Check voltage and model compatibility first
Bosch 12V and 18V batteries belong to distinct tool platforms. Before buying, read the voltage and model number on your tool and existing battery, then look up the candidate battery or charger in Bosch’s current product information or manual. Do not assume that two items fit because they share the Bosch name or an 18V rating.
The GAL12V/18V-80 is one explicitly documented dual-voltage charger: Bosch lists it for Bosch 12V and 18V lithium-ion batteries. Confirm that a different charger supports the voltage and battery family you own.
Choose a battery for the tool and the work
Balance capacity, size and weight
Amp-hour (Ah) ratings describe battery capacity, but a larger capacity is not automatically the best choice. Higher-capacity packs can weigh more, and some are limited to specific tools. Consider how long you need to work between charges, how much weight you can comfortably handle, and whether Bosch lists the battery for your exact tool.

For overhead work or frequent repositioning, a lighter pack may be easier to handle. For demanding or longer-duration work, more capacity may be useful if the tool supports that battery. The GBA18V120 is a reminder to check the exact compatibility listing rather than treating all Bosch 18V batteries as interchangeable.
Understand AMPShare before mixing brands
Bosch describes AMPShare as an 18V battery system for Bosch 18V tools and 18V cordless products from participating AMPShare Alliance members. The alliance page names FEIN, Rothenberger and Wagner as examples. That does not establish that every product from those companies is compatible: verify that the specific tool or product is part of AMPShare and check its compatibility details. Choose a charger by supported batteries and charge time
Check the charger’s supported battery voltage and family, then compare its current rating and the battery-specific charge time. Bosch rates the GAL12V/18V-80 at 8 A. Its product page gives approximate full-charge examples of about 51 minutes for a CORE18V 4 Ah battery and 54 minutes for a 12V Max 3 Ah battery. Bosch GAL12V/18V-80 product page

Verify the exact item before purchase and follow compatibility guidance
- Read the tool label: note its voltage and model number, along with the model number on the battery you use now.
- Check Bosch’s current listing or manual: confirm the candidate battery or charger is listed for that tool or battery family. For AMPShare, verify the exact other-brand product’s alliance compatibility.
- Compare practical trade-offs: consider battery capacity and weight, and—if choosing a charger—its rated current and the approximate charge time for your battery.
- Follow Bosch’s safety and compatibility instructions: Bosch’s older battery/charger list names specific compatible families, warns against unlisted packs or chargers, and directs users to current compatibility information.
