Consider 18V when you need a heavier-duty tool or a wider alliance
- The specific tool you need is positioned for heavier-duty work.
- You already own Bosch 18V batteries and want to extend that system.
- You want to consider compatible 18V tools from AMPShare alliance members.
Bosch describes AMPShare as an 18V multi-brand battery and charger system. It names Fein, Rothenberger, and Wagner among participating alliance brands, but compatibility should be confirmed for the exact product rather than assumed from the brand name. Check Bosch’s AMPShare information.
Compare the actual tool and kit, not just the battery voltage
Before choosing a platform, compare the models that do the work you expect to do. Look at their size, weight, features, and suitability for the task, then check what is included in the kit. Can one charger charge Bosch 12V and 18V batteries?
Yes. Bosch specifies that its GAL12V/18V-80 multi-voltage charger charges Bosch 12V and 18V lithium-ion batteries. Bosch lists an 8A charging current and says it is up to four times the current of its standard GAL18V-20 charger. Its product information gives an estimated charge time of about 51 minutes for a CORE18V 4Ah battery and 54 minutes for a 12V Max 3Ah battery. Charging both types does not make the battery packs interchangeable between tools. Check the manual or product information for the exact tool and battery combination before use; the available Bosch information here establishes charger compatibility, not cross-platform pack fit.
