The available project updates point to milestones across U.S. bridges and utility work and UK infrastructure and public buildings. Because the weeks of October 5 and October 12, 2026, had not yet begun when these announcements were gathered, this is a planning-baseline roundup—not a complete record of news from either week.

What the Scottish transmission milestone means
SSEN Transmission said its compounds at Bower Quarry near Halkirk and Blackhills near Peterhead are operational as bases for onshore cable installation. The company described the planned Spittal-to-Peterhead HVDC subsea cable link as 166 km long with a capacity of 2 GW (SSEN Transmission, 2026). These are project specifications reported by the company, not measures of completed cable installation.
SSEN also reported around 50 staff at the Bower Quarry compound. Project Director Niall Macleod called the establishment of the main compounds in Caithness and Aberdeenshire “an important milestone” for the project. The announcement says the 1.7 km directional drill at Rattray Head is being constructed, while comparable drilling at Sinclair’s Bay is scheduled for late 2027; both are company-reported status and forecast information.

How to read the dates and milestones
- Notice to proceed means the I-10 project received authorization to proceed from ALDOT, as reported by the joint venture’s newsroom; it is not a report that construction is complete.
- Groundbreaking marks a ceremony or start milestone, such as the US-70 bridge event and Stevenage facility event, not project completion.
- Operational compounds are functioning work bases for the transmission project, not evidence that the full link or its cable is operational.
- Completion and handover is the reported status for Kilburn Mews; it is separate from the Stevenage groundbreaking.
- Forecast dates are plans, not confirmed outcomes. National Grid specifically warns that outside construction schedules can change, so its tie-in and completion timing should be checked against the latest project update.
