Bright quilts, a purpose-built sewing room, antiques and carefully arranged supplies give each space a distinct character. The tour is a historical snapshot published November 20, 2015, so it does not establish how McConnell’s home looks today.
A home shaped by quilting and family
The tour introduces McConnell as a quilt designer and blogger whose traditional designs use fresh, happy colors. Quilts are not confined to a studio: they appear throughout the home, making her work part of the everyday setting rather than occasional decoration. A plaque reading “A Quilting Life” hangs above a closet door. The article says McConnell chose that blog name after discovering that other titles she had considered were already in use.
The sewing room: display and work in the same space
Mini quilts create a colorful border
The sewing room is presented as a cheerful, colorful workspace. Mini quilts run along the top of the wall, turning a high, often-unused band of space into a rotating display and visually linking the room to McConnell’s design work.
A framed design wall makes unfinished work look intentional
The design wall holds Dresden Plate blocks and hexagon flowers. A colorful frame surrounds the area so works in progress read almost like artwork. It is both a practical planning surface and a strong focal point: blocks can be arranged, assessed and rearranged without losing the room’s finished appearance.

Thread becomes part of the room’s color story
A mounted spool rack displays thread in a rainbow-like arrangement. The rack keeps spools visible and accessible while adding another organized band of color to the sewing room. The tour does not identify a brand or model for the rack.
Bright quilts paired with antiques
One of the home’s notable contrasts is the combination of vivid quilts and older furnishings. In a bedroom, a vintage, hand-painted bureau stores folded quilts. The bureau supplies ornament and history, while its drawers provide concealed storage for textiles that need to remain accessible but protected from visual clutter.

The den: traditional furniture and Americana color
The den has a more traditional feeling than the sewing room, with rich wood furniture and quilts in Americana colors. This room shows how the same maker’s work can shift mood through palette and setting: bright, cheerful fabrics energize the studio, while red, white and blue-oriented colors sit comfortably with darker wood and classic furnishings in the den.
Storage that supports an active quilting practice
The wire-drawer rack
The article singles out a wire-drawer storage rack used for quilt-related storage. Its drawers are supported along the sides, helping prevent them from tipping over or falling out when pulled far. That side support is a practical detail for anyone storing folded fabric, quilts or supplies in deep, frequently opened drawers.

How the storage choices work together
- Visible display: mini quilts, thread and the framed design wall keep creative materials part of the room’s identity.
- Concealed storage: the hand-painted bureau holds folded quilts without adding another open display.
- Accessible capacity: the wire-drawer rack is designed for repeated access, with drawers supported during extension.
The source identifies the rack by type only. It does not name a manufacturer, model, retailer or purchase source, so a comparable rack should not be described as the exact item in McConnell’s home.

McConnell’s rooms demonstrate a simple decorating principle: let the work guide the color and then give each function an appropriate setting. A sewing room can be lively and visibly in progress; a bedroom can use an antique to store finished quilts; and a den can temper bright craft materials with traditional wood furniture and Americana colors. The result is not a single uniform look, but a connected home in which quilts, furniture and storage each have a clear role.
