One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match1X NEO is a real, preorderable humanoid home robot, but it is not yet a proven autonomous housekeeper. 1X lists Early Access ownership at $20,000, a $200 fully refundable deposit, and a $499-per-month subscription, with U.S. deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026. Its advertised chores can be attempted autonomously, while 1X Experts can remotely supervise unfamiliar tasks through “Expert Mode.”
That makes NEO a hybrid of household robot, remote-assistance service, and developing robotics platform—not a drop-in replacement for a cleaner, cook, caregiver, or babysitter.
What you get when you order NEO
1X positions NEO as a humanoid robot for private homes. The current order page offers two Early Access routes:
| Option | Listed terms | What remains unclear |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership | $20,000; three-year warranty, premium support, and priority delivery listed | Final production specifications, future service costs, and every included service |
| Subscription | $499 per month; Starter Productivity Package and standard delivery listed | Minimum term, cancellation fees, service limits, Expert Mode allowance, and end-of-term ownership |
| Reservation | $200 deposit described as fully refundable | Whether delivery timing or pricing can change under the final agreement |
1X says U.S. deliveries start in 2026 and international deliveries follow later. Preordering is not the same as immediate retail availability. Read the current terms at 1X’s order page; the company’s legal terms also say specifications and performance illustrations are not warranties that a delivered robot will conform to them.

How teleoperation and “learning” are supposed to work
1X says NEO operates autonomously by default, with “basic autonomy” that grows over time. When it encounters an unfamiliar or difficult chore, the advertised workflow is:
- You request or schedule a task in the mobile app.
- NEO attempts the task using its available autonomy.
- You schedule or invoke an Expert Mode session when help is needed.
- A 1X employee remotely supervises or pilots the robot; 1X says this can help NEO learn while completing the chore.
- 1X may use teleoperated and autonomous episodes to improve its models.
Teleoperation is live human control or supervision. Behavioral learning is the use of demonstrations or interaction data to improve a policy. Autonomous execution is completing the task without live control. Those are different stages, and a successful remote session does not prove that the same robot will reliably perform the chore alone next time.
1X’s World Model paper describes training data containing teleoperated and autonomous episodes with labeled outcomes. It supports the idea that remote interactions can contribute to training, but the public material does not state how many demonstrations a task needs, whether learning is personal or fleet-wide, or how often a learned skill fails.

What chores can NEO do?
1X advertises household assistance such as putting away dishes, cleaning bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms, opening doors, handling laundry-related tasks, and general assistance. It also describes conversational help such as recipes and advice. These are advertised use cases and demonstrations, not a guaranteed launch capability list for every Early Access unit.

Cooking is restricted at first
The NEO FAQ says cooking capabilities will initially be restricted. NEO may provide recipes or help clean up, but it should not be treated as an autonomous cook.
What the public material does not establish
- The percentage of chores completed without intervention.
- The number of supported chores at launch.
- Average intervention time or failure and recovery rates.
- Whether skills transfer reliably between different homes.
- Whether Expert Mode is available instantly, scheduled only, or separately charged.

1X also describes soft-body construction, tendon-driven actuation, covered joints and a deformable lattice polymer. Those design choices may reduce injury risk, but they are not independent safety certification or incident data. A four-hour figure is a manufacturer estimate, not necessarily four hours of continuous lifting or cleaning.
Privacy: the cost of remote help inside a home
NEO is designed to move through private rooms with cameras, microphones, memory, mobile monitoring and remote-control capability. 1X says NEO can work without data sharing; in autonomous mode, limited sensor data may be sent to its servers to fulfill a request and, according to the company, is not stored. The FAQ also says owners can opt out of sharing for performance improvement and control each session. 1X says its Experts are employees physically located in the United States.
Recommended Free Tools
Before paying, review the privacy policy and legal terms. Confirm whether an Expert can view only during a scheduled session, what indicator shows a connection, what metadata and recordings are retained, how guests can revoke access, whether feeds are encrypted end to end, and whether owners can delete home data and learned-task history. The marketing material does not answer all of those questions.

1X also advertises remote piloting through its mobile app and a VR device. That is useful assistance for an immature robot, but it introduces privacy, security, latency and scheduling trade-offs.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Safety and home compatibility
1X tells users to remain attentive and follow safety instructions, especially around children, vulnerable people and pets. NEO is intended for indoor household use, not outdoor operation. The hands are listed as IP68, while the body is IP44; the product is not an all-purpose waterproof kitchen worker.
- Keep clear walking paths and a safe charging area.
- Assess thresholds, stairs, split levels, narrow spaces, clutter and fragile objects.
- Keep hot surfaces, knives, medicines, chemicals and wet floors outside tasks until safe behavior is demonstrated.
- Do not assume the robot will recognize every pet, person, obstacle or dropped object correctly.
- Determine what happens during a network outage or if a remote Expert loses connection.
The public information does not provide a complete room-dimension checklist or independent evidence for unattended operation around children or animals. A humanoid form can reach ordinary doors, cabinets and tools, but its many moving parts also create more failure modes than a specialized appliance.

Is $20,000 rational?
At $499 per month, $20,000 equals about 40 months of payments by simple arithmetic. That is not a true ownership comparison: the plans have different stated delivery and support packages, and the subscription term, service limits, repairs and end-of-term terms are not established.
NEO’s differentiator is general-purpose manipulation, not proven cost per chore. If the need is floor cleaning, a specialized robot vacuum or mop is simpler and more mature; examples include Roborock, iRobot and Ecovacs. Human cleaners listed through Taskrabbit, Angi or MaidPro can handle irregular judgment-heavy work immediately, though rates and access arrangements vary. Instacart, Walmart delivery and Amazon household services can remove errands without placing a camera-equipped humanoid in the home.
Who should preorder—and who should wait?
NEO may fit
- Affluent early adopters who value access to a developing robotics platform.
- Researchers, developers and demonstrators comfortable with unfinished software.
- Households able to provide a controlled indoor environment and attentive supervision.
- People with mobility limitations, after confirming actual capabilities and safety procedures for their needs.
Waiting is wiser if you need
- A fully autonomous maid replacement on day one.
- No human expert viewing or controlling a robot inside your home.
- Unattended operation around children or pets.
- Predictable total cost, mature support and independently verified reliability.
- Only one narrow job, such as vacuuming, mopping, laundry or delivery.
Questions to resolve before placing a deposit
- Which tasks work without Expert Mode, and how quickly can help be scheduled?
- What happens when NEO drops an item, meets a pet, loses connectivity or cannot charge?
- Are remote sessions recorded, and can every household member see or cancel one instantly?
- Can owners reject software updates or delete all home and task data?
- What maintenance, insurance and post-warranty support are required?
- What remedies apply if final specifications or delivery timing change?
The Bottom Line
NEO is best understood as an Early Access humanoid with useful autonomy supplemented by scheduled remote human assistance. The $20,000 purchase, $499 subscription and 2026 delivery target are real offers from 1X, but reliability, intervention rates, privacy controls and long-term learning remain insufficiently established for it to be treated as a dependable autonomous housekeeper.
