Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Eufy camera matching this description is the eufyCam S4 (T8172), a wireless outdoor bullet-PTZ camera with a fixed 4K lens, two 2K motorized lenses, and a detachable 5.5W solar panel. Eufy’s US listing showed the standalone camera at $349.99 on August 18, 2026.
Its main advantage is not simply having three lenses. The fixed camera keeps a wide overview while the PTZ assembly follows a person or vehicle for a closer view. The detachable solar panel can be mounted separately, which is useful when the best camera position is not the sunniest position. However, solar charging is site-dependent, and continuous recording requires direct power and appropriate storage.
What the eufyCam S4’s three lenses do
The S4 combines two types of coverage in one housing:
- Fixed 4K bullet camera: 3840×2160 resolution and an approximately 130-degree diagonal field of view. This provides the persistent wide view of a driveway, yard, entrance, or other area.
- 2K PTZ wide-angle lens: 2688×1520 resolution and an approximately 121-degree diagonal field of view.
- 2K PTZ telephoto lens: 2688×1520 resolution and an approximately 46-degree diagonal field of view for a narrower, closer view.
Eufy says the PTZ section can pan through a 360-degree range and capture subject detail from as far as 164 feet (50 metres). That distance is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee: actual detail depends on the subject’s size, lighting, angle, obstructions, and movement.
#1 Best Overall
- Revolutionary Triple-Lens Bullet-PTZ Camera: A single groundbreaking device that replaces and outperforms separate bullet and PTZ cameras. The upper 4K bullet lens delivers a 130° fixed wide view, while the lower 2K dual-lens PTZ offers 360° smart tracking and zoom.
- Bullet-to-PTZ Tracking and Auto-Framing: Once the bullet cam detects a subject, the PTZ camera instantly locks on, tracks, and zooms in to capture details up to 164 ft away. When more subjects enter the frame, it automatically zooms out to ensure they all stay visible.
- Powerful Solar-Charging with SolarPlus: Stay charged year-round with a 5.5W ultra-large solar panel and SolarPlus 2.0. Just 1 hour of direct sunlight a day keeps the camera running, and the detachable design makes setup easy and flexible.
- Great on Its Own: eufyCam S4 can work independently—no HomeBase needed. It features on-device AI for smart human, vehicle, and pet detection. It comes with 32 GB built-in storage, expandable up to 256 GB via microSD (not included).
- Better with HomeBase S380: Unlock BionicMind AI to differentiate family from strangers. With 16 GB built-in storage, expandable up to 16 TB, rest easy knowing your videos are stored securely. Use the latest eufy app and update HomeBase S380 to V3.7.2.8+ to enable 24/7 recording and Snapshots. Other HomeBases (S280/Mini/Professional) and eufy NVR are not supported. No subscription fee.
The 4K specification applies to the fixed bullet lens. The tracking lenses are 2K, so a subject followed by the PTZ system should not be described as receiving 4K zoomed footage.

How bullet-to-PTZ tracking works
The S4 is better understood as a coordinated multi-lens camera than as three independent cameras with three freely managed feeds. Eufy describes the process this way:
- The fixed bullet lens detects a person or another target.
- The PTZ assembly locks onto the target.
- The PTZ lenses pan, tilt, and zoom to follow it.
- If several people enter the scene, the camera can zoom out to include more of them, according to Eufy’s product description.
The benefit is that the fixed lens can retain the wider context while the PTZ view follows activity. A conventional tracking camera may point away from the area it was originally monitoring; the S4’s fixed overview is intended to reduce that compromise.

Starting with 4 cameras, this highly scalable system can easily support up to 16 devices total.
- Precise Detection, Powerful Deterrence: Radar and PIR sensors deliver precise motion alerts with fewer false alarms. When a threat is detected within your set zone or schedule, red and blue warning lights and a 105 dB siren activate to deter intruders.
Tracking can still be affected by walls, trees, parked vehicles, other people, poor night-time contrast, fast movement, simultaneous targets, and Wi-Fi or HomeBase connectivity problems. Eufy’s tracking and distance figures should therefore be treated as claimed capabilities rather than independently verified performance.
What the detachable solar panel changes
The S4 uses Eufy’s SolarPlus 2.0 system with a rated 5.5W detachable solar panel. The panel can be attached above the camera or mounted separately using the supplied mounting hardware. A separate position is often the more useful option: the camera can face the area that needs monitoring while the panel faces a clearer patch of sky.
Eufy says one hour of direct sunlight can provide a full day of power under optimal conditions. Its published figures estimate roughly 1,000–2,500mAh of collection per day in optimal sunlight against approximately 300–550mAh of average daily camera use. These are manufacturer estimates, not a promise that every installation will remain charged throughout the year.
Shading, foliage, winter sun angles, cloud cover, frequent motion alerts, repeated spotlight use, weak wireless communication, and poor cable routing can all change the balance. A panel under an eave or behind vegetation may produce much less energy than its rating suggests.

For installation, prioritize unobstructed sunlight over hiding the panel. If the camera and panel need different positions, route and secure the cable carefully and protect the connector from weather exposure. Eufy’s installation documentation also references a solar-panel bracket and, in larger configurations, an extension cable. The cited support material describes a 3-metre extension cable and a maximum total length of 4.2 metres for that configuration.
Standalone camera or HomeBase S380?
The S4 does not require HomeBase for basic operation. It includes on-device human, vehicle, and pet detection, plus 32GB of built-in storage. A microSD card, which is not included, can expand standalone storage up to 256GB.
HomeBase S380 adds capabilities rather than merely making the camera work:
| Capability | Without HomeBase | With HomeBase S380 |
|---|---|---|
| Basic detection | Human, vehicle, and pet detection | Available |
| Storage | 32GB built in; microSD expansion up to 256GB | HomeBase storage, expandable up to 16TB with a compatible hard drive |
| Known-person and stranger recognition | Not all advanced recognition features available | BionicMind recognition, including familiar-person and stranger differentiation |
| Cross-camera tracking | Not available as a HomeBase feature | Available |
| Monthly subscription | Not required for core local-storage use | Not required for core local-storage use; optional cloud services may still exist |
HomeBase storage expansion requires a separately purchased compatible hard drive. “Local storage” also does not mean that every possible feature is entirely cloud-free; Eufy’s product disclosures describe optional cloud storage and related services.

Existing Eufy owners who already have an S380 may get more value from the S4 than someone buying a single standalone camera. Buyers who only need local event recording can start with the standalone version and add storage or ecosystem hardware according to their needs.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Recording: solar mode is not the same as wired mode
This is the most important limitation to understand before buying. Eufy lists continuous recording when the camera is connected to direct power. The battery-and-solar configuration is designed around power-conserving event or smart recording, not unrestricted always-on recording.
Eufy support documentation also states that continuous-recording setups require HomeBase 3/S380 storage with a hard drive, as well as suitable firmware and power configuration. The cited documentation specifies camera firmware V1.0.5.4 or later and HomeBase firmware V3.7.2.8 or later for the referenced wired-mode functionality.
If a construction site, side entrance, or driveway needs a dependable 24/7 archive, plan for a weather-appropriate direct-power installation. Do not assume that the detachable solar panel will support continuous recording through changing weather and seasonal sunlight.

Installation advice for a house or construction property
- Choose the camera position first. Select a vertical or horizontal mounting surface with a useful view of the entrance, driveway, yard, or work area. Remember that the PTZ lens’s 360-degree pan claim does not guarantee simultaneous coverage in every direction.
- Plan the solar position separately. Use the integrated top mount only if it receives adequate sunlight. Otherwise, mount the panel where it has a clearer view of the sky.
- Check wireless coverage. The S4 relies on Wi-Fi for standalone operation. For a HomeBase installation, consider the network connection to HomeBase and the wireless distance to the camera.
- Route the cable safely. Secure a remotely mounted panel cable, avoid sharp bends and pinch points, and keep connectors protected from water. The extension cable may be useful when the panel and camera cannot share a mounting position.
- Pair and configure the camera. Add it through the Eufy Security app, then set detection zones, alerts, tracking, storage, and power mode. App labels can change between releases.
- Test day and night coverage. Walk through the areas that matter, including likely approaches and blind spots. Confirm that the fixed overview remains useful and that the PTZ can frame the targets you care about.
- Monitor the battery trend. Judge solar performance over several days and changing conditions rather than from one sunny afternoon. If the battery continually falls, improve panel placement, reduce unnecessary activity, or use direct power.
Keep the app and firmware current, and check Eufy’s support documentation before relying on a particular recording feature.
Who should buy the eufyCam S4?
The S4 makes the most sense for a front yard, driveway, side yard, or L-shaped property where one device needs to provide both a broad scene and closer tracking. It is also a strong fit for buyers who want solar charging but cannot point the camera itself toward the sun.
It is less suitable for:
- Heavily shaded locations with little dependable direct sunlight.
- Buyers who require guaranteed 24/7 recording without a power cable.
- Anyone seeking a small, discreet camera; the triple-lens housing and solar hardware are comparatively conspicuous.
- Properties without dependable Wi-Fi, unless a separate connectivity solution is available.
- People who require Apple Home, Home Assistant, RTSP, or another third-party integration without first confirming current firmware and regional compatibility.
- Buyers who want all advanced recognition and cross-camera functions without HomeBase S380.
Which version should you choose?
- Standalone S4: The sensible starting point for one camera, good sunlight, local event storage, and no immediate need for advanced HomeBase features. Budget separately for a suitable microSD card if 32GB is insufficient.
- S4 with HomeBase S380: Better for a growing Eufy system, BionicMind recognition, cross-camera tracking, and centralized local storage. Expanded storage requires a compatible hard drive.
- Four-camera kit: Appropriate for a larger property with several surveillance zones, but potentially excessive for one driveway or entrance. Compare the kit with the coverage you actually need and confirm Wi-Fi reach before purchasing.
- Direct-powered setup: The better choice when continuous recording matters more than avoiding wiring.
If the site has no reliable Wi-Fi, a cellular security camera may be a better starting point, even though cellular plans introduce a different ongoing cost. A conventional wired PTZ camera may also suit buyers who prioritize continuous power or broader third-party integration over solar flexibility.
