The Chefman Obliterator is RTINGS’ best all-around budget pick, while the Ninja Professional Blender 1000 is a stronger choice for frozen drinks and the nutribullet Blender Combo for hot soups and sauces. These recommendations come from separate publishers’ testing—not one head-to-head comparison—and reported prices can change. Check the exact model, included jars and current price before buying.

Which affordable blender should you choose?

The five picks, and what each does well

1. Chefman Obliterator: best all-around budget pick

RTINGS names the Chefman Obliterator its best budget blender, reporting strong results across smoothies, ice, soups and thick recipes. Its 48-ounce jar is a practical size for everyday batches, though RTINGS says it may be small for larger family servings. Higher speeds are loud. RTINGS reports a $150 MSRP and says it can regularly be found around $70 on sale; those are source-reported figures, not live prices. See RTINGS’ budget blender guide.

2. Black+Decker Quiet Blender with Cyclone Glass Jar: best quieter glass-pitcher alternative

RTINGS describes this model as comparatively quiet among budget full-size blenders, with a 48-ounce glass pitcher and a 24-ounce personal jar. It handles everyday smoothies, soups and sauces well, but ice crushing is less consistent in larger batches, and nut butter or other thick mixtures take more effort. RTINGS also notes a removable blade assembly. Its reported typical price is around $60, subject to change. See RTINGS’ evaluation.

3. nutribullet Blender Combo: best for soups and sauces

The 64-ounce pitcher and hot-blending capability make this RTINGS pick the clearest fit for soup and sauce preparation. RTINGS reports smooth results with fibrous ingredients. It is a poor choice for crushing ice dry, without liquid, and thick nut butters or hummus require extra work. RTINGS describes the jars and lids as dishwasher-safe, but says the personal-jar blade assembly needs hand washing. See RTINGS’ budget blender guide.

4. Ninja Professional Blender 1000: best for frozen drinks

RTINGS reports excellent ice crushing and a 72-ounce pitcher suited to making drinks for a group. This is the strongest match here when ice is the priority, but it is not rated for hot blending, and fibrous produce may remain grainy. See RTINGS’ evaluation.

5. nutribullet Power Core: another budget-tested option

Bon Appétit names the Power Core its best budget blender and describes tests that included ice and a smoothie made with raw almonds and kale. The publication reports smooth blending and easy cleanup, with drawbacks including loud operation, limited speed choices, a lightweight base and a plastic pitcher. Its article conflicts on this model’s specifications: one spec block lists 700 watts and a 50-ounce capacity, while the body describes 1,400 peak watts and 72 ounces. Those figures should not be used to compare variants; confirm the exact model’s specifications with the manufacturer before buying. Bon Appétit describes it as under $100, but that is not a current-price guarantee. See Bon Appétit’s blender review.

How to choose for your kitchen

Match the blender to what you make most

  • Smoothies with greens or fibrous produce: RTINGS reports good everyday smoothie performance from the Chefman and Black+Decker; it reports smooth results with fibrous ingredients for the nutribullet Combo. The Ninja may leave fibrous produce grainy.
  • Ice and frozen drinks: The Ninja is RTINGS’ standout for ice crushing. The Black+Decker is less consistent with larger ice batches, and the nutribullet Combo is a poor fit for dry ice crushing without liquid.
  • Soup: Choose the nutribullet Combo if hot blending is important. The Ninja is not rated for hot blending.
  • Nut butter or hummus: Thick mixtures can take extra work in both the nutribullet Combo and Black+Decker, according to RTINGS.

Think about batch size, sound and cleanup

The RTINGS-reviewed models in this guide have main jars from 48 to 72 ounces. A larger pitcher can be useful for family batches, meal prep or entertaining; check what the listing means by capacity and which accessories it actually includes. For noise, RTINGS describes the Black+Decker as comparatively quieter and the Chefman as loud at faster speeds. If you prefer glass, the Black+Decker has a glass main pitcher; its weight and handling may matter in daily use.

Check the exact product and price before ordering

Prices and included accessories vary by retailer and can change after a review is published. Compare the full model name and variant, confirm whether a personal jar or other accessory is included, and check the current listing rather than treating a reviewer’s sale or typical price as a standing offer. If considering a less expensive Hamilton Beach option, its official catalog lists examples including a Power Elite with a 40-ounce dishwasher-safe glass jar and a three-year limited warranty, and a smoothie blender listed at $25.99 with a 48-ounce BPA-free jar, 650-watt peak-power motor and three-year limited warranty. These are manufacturer catalog details, not independent performance-test results; verify exact model, stock and current terms. What the published tests tell you—and what they do not

RTINGS’ 2026 budget guide says the publisher had bought and tested 138 blenders; it also says it had tested more than 135 since 2020. RTINGS describes evaluating budget models with ice, frozen fruit and fibrous greens, with factors such as extra jars, hot blending and quieter operation also relevant to recommendations. Bon Appétit’s March 2026 review says its testers had reviewed more than 35 full-size blenders over more than half a decade. Its described evaluations included ice crushing, hot butternut squash soup, smoothies made with raw almonds and kale, straining smoothies to assess remaining solids, and hand-washing blenders as part of cleanup evaluation. These are each publisher’s reported methods and test counts; the five recommendations here were not tested against one another under a single shared protocol.
