The best air plant display is one that suits your space while leaving the plant exposed to suitable light and airflow, and easy to reach for watering and drying. These 18 ideas are a curated mix of tabletop, hanging, glass, and natural-material arrangements—not a tested ranking. Choose an open design, or make sure any glass display has generous openings.
How to choose an air plant display
Use these practical checks before settling on a look:
- Airflow: Leave room for air to move around the plant. Glass displays should be open or otherwise well ventilated.
- Light: Place the display where the plant receives bright, suitable diffused or filtered light; a decorative spot that is too dark is not a good home.
- Watering access: Make sure you can reach or remove the plant for its regular care.
- Drainage and drying: After watering, excess water should be able to drain. Orient mounted plants to drain and shake off droplets, as the Royal Horticultural Society advises.
- Placement: Consider whether a surface, wall, or ceiling display will stay accessible for routine care.
Watering needs vary with season and conditions, so choose a display that works with your plant’s care routine rather than relying on a universal schedule. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach discusses this variation in its air plant guidance.
Tabletop air plant display ideas
1. A single plant on an open wire stand
Give one sculptural plant its own small footprint on a tabletop. An open stand keeps it visible from different angles and avoids surrounding it with a solid container. This is a design variation on the specialized supports and hangers described by Iowa State Extension and the RHS.

3. Plants on dry pebbles in a shallow dish
Use a shallow dish with dry pebbles as a simple, low-profile base. Keep the plants above standing water and accessible for care. The University of Florida IFAS Extension describes shallow pebble dishes as a display option.
4. A plant resting on an empty decorative planter
Turn an attractive, unused planter into a pedestal: rest the plant on its rim or upper edge rather than filling the pot with soil. National Parks Board Singapore includes empty planters among its display ideas.
5. A plant perched on a vase rim
Set the plant on the rim of a vase, with open space around it. This uses the vase as a visual base without enclosing the plant inside it. Iowa State Extension and Singapore’s National Parks Board both identify vases as possible display forms.

Hanging and wall-mounted displays
6. A suspended open wire holder
Hang a wire holder where the plant can receive suitable light and moving room air. Choose a shape that supports the plant without wrapping around it so tightly that it becomes difficult to remove.
7. A wall-mounted wire trellis
Use a small trellis as a vertical display and space plants apart. National Parks Board Singapore lists wire trellises as an option; spacing helps keep each plant accessible instead of making the wall arrangement a dense mass.
8. A bamboo rack
A bamboo rack offers a warm natural texture and can hold plants as separate accents. Keep the arrangement open, and position it where you can reach every plant for care. Bamboo racks are among the formats described by National Parks Board Singapore.
9. A ceiling-hung group of open holders
For a suspended grouping, hang individual open holders with room between them. This is a design variation on documented suspended globe and holder displays, arranged to preserve access and circulation rather than creating a crowded cluster.

10. A layered wall arrangement with removable mounts
Combine a trellis or rack with individual removable mounts for a more varied wall composition. Treat each plant as a separate care item: it should be possible to reach it, remove it when needed, and let it dry after watering. This is a design variation on the documented rack, trellis, and mounted-plant formats.
Glass displays: keep them open and accessible
11. A hanging glass globe with a generous opening
A glass globe can frame a plant without serving as a sealed home. Choose one with a generous opening, keep the plant easy to lift out, and avoid placing it in harsh direct exposure under glass. The University of Florida IFAS Extension and National Parks Board Singapore describe suspended globes or orbs as display options.
12. A glass orb for occasional display
Use an orb as a removable, occasional accent rather than leaving the plant in a closed environment. The design works best when the plant can be taken out for its normal care and exposed to air afterward. This is a practical variation on the glass-orb displays identified by Florida IFAS and National Parks Board Singapore.
13. An open-sided glass terrarium
An open-sided glass display can provide a terrarium-like look while allowing circulation. University of Illinois Extension describes an open-sided hanging glass display and emphasizes air circulation and filtered light for air plants. Do not assume a sealed, humid terrarium is equivalent to an airy display: Iowa State Extension’s general terrarium guidance does not establish that a closed environment is suitable for air plants.

15. A rock mount
Use a suitable rock as a stable mount, positioning the plant so water can drain away. The RHS and National Parks Board Singapore both identify rocks as mounting materials; the RHS also advises orienting mounted plants to drain and shaking off droplets after watering.
16. A cork or cork-bark base
Set or secure the plant on cork or cork bark for a lightweight, textured display. Florida IFAS identifies cork and bark among possible display materials. Keep the mount accessible enough to remove and dry the plant as needed.

Care details that affect every display
Whatever style you choose, the display should support the plant’s care rather than interfere with it. The RHS recommends bright, diffused light, good airflow, and drainage for air plants; it also advises shaking droplets away after watering. Avoid designs that leave a plant inaccessible, crowded, or sitting in trapped water. For wire supports, National Parks Board Singapore recommends aluminum rather than copper wire.
