What the Yeelight Beam is—and what it is not
The Beam is a coordinated pair of desktop light bars intended to frame a monitor, add color to a gaming or streaming desk, or provide decorative ambient lighting. Yeelight describes the bars as synchronized and says they emit light from the front, rear, and bottom. The package also includes a headphone-holder function. Despite “light bar” in the name, this is not the Yeelight LED Screen Light Bar Pro. The Beam sits on a desk and emphasizes ambient effects; the separate Pro is designed to mount on a monitor for front-facing desk illumination. Yeelight lists them as distinct products in its gaming-light collection. Neither the Beam’s three-sided glow nor its RGB capability establishes that it provides suitable reading or task lighting.
What RGBIC adds
Ordinary RGB lighting commonly applies one color across the device at a time. RGBIC lighting can address sections or pixels separately, allowing different colors to appear together in gradients, segmented patterns, and moving effects. Yeelight advertises individual, pixel-level control for the Beam. Its “16 million colors” claim describes the available palette; it does not mean the light contains 16 million independently controlled LEDs.

The listing does not state the Beam’s LED count or number of addressable zones. Addressability also does not, by itself, establish animation smoothness, screen-matching accuracy, or response time. Yeelight’s store listing describes the color and pixel-level features.
Controls and synchronization modes
Yeelight advertises app and voice control, along with music, screen-color, and game synchronization. The Yeelight app is the most clearly documented route for device setup and its own effects. The product materials do not establish that every mode works with every computer, console, television, voice assistant, or smart-home platform.

Music sync
Yeelight mentions a built-in microphone and offline music synchronization. That indicates a sound-reactive option, but the published product information does not establish whether the microphone is always active, whether processing is entirely local, how sensitivity is adjusted, or whether the bars react to room sound, phone playback, or both. Treat the feature as an advertised capability, not a guarantee of a particular response or privacy behavior.

Matter and smart-home compatibility
Yeelight describes the Beam as Matter-compatible on its product page and in its IFA 2023 announcement. That is a first-party compatibility claim. Matter can make basic lighting controls available across supported smart-home platforms, but it should not be taken as proof that Yeelight-specific pixel effects, screen capture, music reaction, or game synchronization will appear in every platform’s controls.
Yeelight’s general support material and FAQ discuss several integrations, but the cited HomeKit FAQ details do not explicitly name the Beam. Before buying for a particular ecosystem, check the Beam’s current regional listing, firmware requirements, and the Matter controller or hub you plan to use. After pairing, test basic on/off, brightness, and color control before expecting advanced effects to transfer.

- Open the device section, tap “+”, and select the relevant device.
- Reset the light if the app prompts you. Use the included instructions or in-app guidance for the Beam-specific action.
- Connect through a compatible 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi network during setup.
- If prompted, temporarily join the device network beginning with “yeelink-light-”, then return to the Yeelight app.
- Complete pairing in the app. Yeelight’s FAQ also describes enabling LAN Control for local-network control.
These steps follow Yeelight’s general FAQ instructions; the exact screens can vary by app version and device revision.
