The 23,000Pa headline applies to Xiaomi’s China-market Mijia Robot Vacuum 5 Pro, commonly identified as model OV21CN. The global Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro, model OV21GL, is officially rated at up to 20,000Pa of fan-blower air pressure. They share the same broad concept—AI obstacle and dirt recognition, retractable lidar, edge-cleaning hardware and an automated mop-washing dock—but they are not automatically interchangeable.
Before buying, verify the model number, power requirements, Xiaomi Home region, language support, warranty and replacement-part availability. For most buyers who value local support, the global version is the safer choice. The China-market model is worth considering only when its price advantage justifies the software, voltage and service risks.

Retail listings frequently shorten both products to “Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro.” That creates a significant buying trap.

The global Xiaomi product page and official specifications identify OV21GL and list the 20,000Pa figure. The OV21CN identification and 23,000Pa claim come from secondary comparison coverage of the China-market product. Do not rely on a marketplace title alone: ask for a photograph of the product label or verify the model number in the listing.

What does 23,000Pa suction actually mean?
Pa, or pascals, measures pressure. It is not a complete measurement of how much dirt a robot will collect. Pickup also depends on airflow, brush design, sealing, carpet contact, navigation, cleaning passes and the surface being cleaned.
For the global OV21GL, Xiaomi describes 20,000Pa as maximum fan-blower air pressure under its stated laboratory conditions. Xiaomi also notes that results vary with the test environment. The China-market Mijia version is reported at 23,000Pa, but that number should not be presented as a universal rating for every regional version or as suction delivered continuously at the brush head.
The practical takeaway is simple: a high Pa figure may help with fine dust and embedded debris, particularly on carpets, but it does not by itself prove superior cleaning. A robot with good brush contact, sensible carpet boosting and reliable navigation can outperform a nominally more powerful machine that misses edges or becomes tangled.

The global model combines an RGB camera, two infrared cameras, an infrared 3D dot projector and night-vision LEDs. Xiaomi says its system can recognise approximately 200 common obstacles across eight categories, including objects such as cables, socks, shoes, fabrics and plant stems. Xiaomi also claims detection of objects as small as 3mm-diameter earphone cables.
The robot’s front-facing 5MP camera also supports remote viewing and pet monitoring when the relevant functions are enabled. Video manager and real-scene photo features are disabled by default according to Xiaomi’s product information.
Xiaomi says the system recognises up to 47 common dirt types across liquid, solid and mixed solid-liquid categories. The advertised cleaning responses include:
- Solid debris: the robot can lift its mop pads and prioritise vacuuming.
- Liquid spills: it can alter its cleaning behaviour and switch toward mopping.
- Mixed messes: Xiaomi says it can bypass and mark the area rather than spreading it.
These are advertised capabilities, not a guarantee that every spill will be classified correctly. Independent review coverage found that the dirt-identification feature was not fully perfected. Pet waste, large spills, charging cables and small hazardous objects should still be removed manually before a run.

The 200-object and 47-dirt figures were tested by TÜV Rheinland under report CN25CWFC001, according to Xiaomi’s product notes. Lighting, object position, surface colour, clutter and object size can affect results. Recognising an object is also different from avoiding it successfully in every situation.
Navigation, low furniture and edge cleaning
The robot uses retractable dToF radar. When approaching low furniture, the radar assembly can retract so the robot can reduce its effective height. Xiaomi claims access to spaces as low as 9.5cm under its test conditions, while the robot itself is listed at approximately 88mm high.
Measure the lowest obstruction in your home rather than assuming that every space above 9.5cm will be accessible. Furniture geometry, underside bracing and the approach angle can prevent entry. Xiaomi says low-clearance areas may be skipped during initial mapping and prioritised later. If the robot behaves unpredictably, the Xiaomi Home app supports restricted areas and virtual walls.
For edges and corners, the machine has an extendable side brush and an extendable mop arm. Xiaomi claims both can approach edges and inside corners to a minimum distance of 0mm in specified tests. That does not mean every baseboard or irregular corner will be cleaned perfectly: wall geometry, furniture, debris placement and the selected cleaning setting still matter.

The main brush uses an anti-tangle design with a concealed hair-cutting mechanism, while the side brush is also designed to resist tangling. This should reduce maintenance for homes with long hair or pets, but it does not make the robot maintenance-free. Hair can still collect around the brush ends, caster wheels, side brush and axle areas.
A China-market Xiaomi page claims a 99% hair pickup rate in a specified standardised test involving dry hair, a stated mode and two cleaning passes. Treat that as a laboratory result rather than a universal real-world percentage. Long human hair, damp fur, dense pet shedding and hair trapped in rug fibres can produce different results.
The global model supports ultrasonic carpet detection and can lift its mop pads by up to 15mm. Depending on the selected mode, it can vacuum carpets, avoid them or lift the mop during transitions. Xiaomi also lists obstacle crossing of up to 20mm on its Taiwan product page, but rug edges, thresholds and flexible mats vary considerably.

Before buying, measure your thickest rug and the highest threshold. Ask whether a 15mm lift is enough to keep the mop clear of your carpet pile. Lightweight rugs may bunch or move, and a wet transition can still leave marks if the robot misidentifies the surface or a mop does not fully lift.
What the automated dock does
The dock is the main reason to consider this as a premium robot vacuum rather than a basic automated cleaner. Depending on the regional configuration, it provides:
- Automatic dust emptying into a disposable bag.
- Hot-water mop washing.
- Hot-air mop drying.
- Clean- and dirty-water tanks.
- Automatic mop re-washing when enabled.
- Washboard self-cleaning features.
Regional specifications differ. Xiaomi’s Taiwan product information lists mop washing at up to 80°C and approximately two hours of hot-air drying under stated test conditions. Regional listings identify a 2.5-litre dust bag and 4-litre clean- and dirty-water tanks, while Xiaomi claims up to 400 square metres of mopping from a clean-water tank in a defined test setup. The company also suggests a dust bag may last about 75 days, but homes with pets, large floor areas or heavy debris will fill it sooner.
The dock reduces daily work, but it adds another maintenance system. You still need to fill and empty tanks, clean the washboard, inspect the auto-empty path, replace the dust bag, wash or replace filters and confirm that mop drying completes. A dirty-water tank left standing can develop odour, particularly if the drying cycle is interrupted.
Power and physical installation matter
Do not import the robot before checking the dock’s electrical requirements. The global specifications list a 220–240V dock, while the Taiwan product page lists a 100–120V input. China-market hardware may follow yet another configuration. A plug adapter does not convert voltage.
The global robot is approximately 350mm in diameter and 88mm high. Xiaomi lists a 4,800mAh rated battery and 5,200mAh nominal battery, with up to 140 minutes of continuous cleaning in a specified Vacuuming and Mopping/Standard-mode test. Maximum suction, heavy mopping, repeated obstacle avoidance and frequent returns to the dock can reduce runtime.
The dock is approximately 470 × 360 × 572mm with its ramp extension, or 260 × 360 × 572mm without it, according to Xiaomi’s global specifications. Provide a stable, level floor, a nearby compatible outlet and enough clearance for the robot to approach and leave the dock. Also allow room to remove both water tanks and the dust bag.

App, mapping and smart-home controls
The Xiaomi Home app supports scheduling, room and zone cleaning, no-go zones, virtual walls, multiple maps, cleaning-progress tracking and job resumption. Smart-home automations can be configured manually. Alexa and Google Assistant support is available where supported, but language, country and device compatibility vary.
The Taiwan specification page lists 2.4GHz Wi-Fi support. App labels and features can change with software updates and regional server settings. A China-market OV21CN unit may require a China-region account or server selection. Owner reports describe possible language and region limitations, but those reports are anecdotal rather than universal specifications.

The camera is more than a navigation sensor: it enables remote home viewing and pet monitoring. If you do not need those functions, leave them disabled and review the Xiaomi Home app’s permissions and account-security settings.
Before purchase, check the privacy policy for the product’s region and understand how video, images, account data and remote-control functions are handled. An imported model may route through a different regional service environment and may provide different language, cloud or integration behaviour. Households with strong privacy requirements may prefer a robot without a camera, even if that means giving up some obstacle-recognition features.
Common failure modes
- Wet messes spread: pre-clean pet accidents and large spills; do not treat dirt recognition as guaranteed.
- Cables are missed: remove charging leads, shoelaces, thin cords, toys and small choking hazards before cleaning.
- The robot gets stuck on a rug or threshold: measure the transition rather than relying on a maximum obstacle-crossing claim.
- It cannot fit under furniture: measure the lowest point, including crossbars and underside supports.
- Mop pads remain damp: allow the complete drying cycle and use carpet-avoidance settings where appropriate.
- Cleaning performance declines: inspect the filter, brushes, sensors, washboard, water tanks and auto-empty route.
- The imported unit is not recognised: check that the Xiaomi Home account and server region match the intended market.
- Consumables are unavailable: confirm local access to dust bags, mop pads, filters, side brushes and the correct main brush before purchase.
Who should buy it?
The Robot Vacuum 5 Pro is a strong fit for households with mostly hard floors, some carpet, pets and a genuine need for automated dust emptying and mop maintenance. It is particularly appealing to existing Xiaomi Home users who can use the correct regional ecosystem.
It is a poor fit for buyers who need guaranteed local warranty support but are considering an imported China-market unit, users who do not want a camera in the home, or households with many irregular rugs, high thresholds and furniture below the stated clearance. It is also a poor choice for anyone seeking a completely maintenance-free appliance. The dock saves time, but tanks, washboards, filters, brushes and dust bags still need attention.

China import or global purchase?
Choose the global OV21GL when:
- Local warranty and replacement parts matter.
- You want simpler app setup and local-language support.
- Your home uses the global dock voltage and local Xiaomi Home region.
- You prefer a product sold through an officially supported market.
Consider the China OV21CN only when:
- The price advantage is substantial.
- You have verified voltage, plug and dock compatibility.
- You accept possible China-region account, language and voice-control restrictions.
- You have confirmed warranty arrangements and access to compatible consumables.
For official-market purchasing, start with Xiaomi’s global product page and specifications. Xiaomi also lists the China-market product through its China storefront, along with a dedicated accessory listing. Availability varies by country, so do not assume a global U.S. listing, warranty or price.
Verdict
Xiaomi’s Mijia Robot Vacuum 5 Pro is real, but the headline needs regional context. The China-market OV21CN is reported at 23,000Pa, while the global OV21GL is officially listed at up to 20,000Pa. The more important proposition is the complete platform: camera-assisted obstacle recognition, dirt-sensitive cleaning strategies, retractable lidar, extending edge hardware and a dock that empties dust and washes and dries mops.
Buy it for automation and the convenience of a premium dock—not simply because of the largest Pa number. Verify the exact model, voltage, app region, warranty and consumables first. If local support matters, the global version is generally the lower-risk purchase; importing the Mijia version makes sense only for buyers prepared to manage its regional trade-offs.
