Short answer: yes, the Wyze Solar Cam Pan concept is real, but it is not a maintenance-free, always-recording security system. The integrated 1.8-watt panel can recharge the built-in 6,400mAh battery, and Wyze says about one hour of sunlight a day can provide continuous power. Actual results depend on sun, weather, camera activity and installation. There is also a major safety qualification: certain original units are covered by a 2026 recall, so buyers must distinguish them from the updated Wyze Solar Cam Pan 2K.
What the Wyze Solar Cam Pan 2K is
The camera is a wire-free, battery-powered outdoor pan-and-tilt camera with a solar panel built into its housing. Wyze launched the original Solar Cam Pan on October 21, 2025, at $79.98. The current product is identified as the Wyze Solar Cam Pan 2K.

How the solar charging works
The camera combines a 1.8W integrated solar panel with a non-removable 6,400mAh lithium-ion battery. Wyze claims that approximately one hour of sunlight per day can provide continuous battery power. That is a manufacturer operating claim, not a guarantee for every roofline, season or workload.

Solar performance is most likely to hold up when the panel receives useful direct sunlight and the camera records relatively few events. Output can fall below consumption when the panel is shaded, dirty, snow-covered or poorly angled, or when the camera is busy tracking people, moving its motors, using the spotlight, recording frequently or uploading over a weak Wi-Fi connection.
Wyze also specifies approximately two to six months of battery-only operation, depending on use and conditions. The six-month figure is therefore a best-case end of a range, not a standard runtime.
Backup charging
A USB-C-to-USB-A cable is supplied, but the 5V/2A power adapter is not. Wyze estimates roughly four to six hours to charge from 0% to 100% using a suitable 5V/2A source. Charging before installation gives the panel a full battery to maintain rather than recover.

No. In a sunny, low- to moderate-traffic location, solar charging may keep the battery near full and greatly reduce charging visits. A busy driveway or shaded winter installation can consume energy faster than the panel replaces it.

Owners should periodically check:
- Battery percentage and charging trend
- Dust, leaves or snow on the lens and panel
- Wi-Fi connection and firmware status
- Mounting hardware and cable seals
- Whether motion sensitivity, tracking, spotlight and siren settings are generating unnecessary activity
The battery is sealed inside the camera. When it eventually loses capacity, it cannot be swapped like a removable camera battery.
What “keep an eye on intruders” means in practice
The camera detects motion, can identify and track detected people, and can trigger its spotlight or siren. Those features may deter activity and make notifications more useful, but they do not guarantee detection, identify every person correctly, prevent a break-in or replace professional monitoring.
A 360-degree pan range is not simultaneous 360-degree surveillance. The lens views one direction at a time and must physically turn to follow a subject. A person moving outside the current view can leave the frame before the camera repositions. If every approach must be visible at once, fixed cameras or multiple cameras are a better design.

Local recording can avoid a cloud-storage fee, but it is not an off-site backup: a stolen camera or damaged card can take the footage with it. Wyze community discussion indicated that continuous microSD recording was available when connected to AC power, while battery/solar use was intended for event recording. Confirm the behavior in the current app firmware before relying on 24/7 recording; a battery camera should be evaluated primarily as an event camera.
The 2026 recall: check this before installing an original unit
Wyze issued a voluntary recall for certain original Solar Cam Pan units purchased on or before April 3, 2026. The problem was incorrect installation guidance: using the long, flat-head wood screws to attach the solar-panel bracket to the top of the camera could puncture the internal lithium-ion battery and create a fire or burn hazard. The short pan-head machine screws are intended for the bracket-to-camera connection; the long wood screws are for mounting to a wall or another surface. What owners should do
- If the camera is not installed, stop and review the corrected instructions.
- If the short pan-head machine screws were used on top of the camera, Wyze says no recall action is needed.
- If the long flat-head wood screws were used on top, stop using the product and follow Wyze’s recall process.
- If you cannot identify the screws, use Wyze’s step-by-step process rather than guessing or casually dismantling an energized device.
- Follow Wyze’s handling and battery-draining directions. Do not put a recalled lithium-ion device in ordinary trash or curbside recycling.
Wyze says affected consumers may be offered a replacement camera with solar-panel accessory, a refund or a gift card.

How to identify the updated Solar Cam Pan 2K
Wyze says the updated model is outside the earlier recall and has revised instructions, redesigned screw packaging, fail-safe screw types and warning labels. In the app, the original is model version 1.0 and the updated model is version 1.1. Check Settings → Device Info → Model Version. Naming is confusing because both generations can appear as “Wyze Solar Cam Pan” in parts of the app and documentation. The updated product details are on Wyze’s product FAQ.

Installation checklist
- Verify the generation: For units bought on or before April 3, 2026, check the recall guidance and model version before mounting.
- Charge first: Use a suitable 5V/2A adapter for the initial four- to six-hour charge; the adapter is sold separately.
- Choose sunlight carefully: Avoid permanent shade and overhangs. If the panel is mounted separately, plan cable routing and weather exposure.
- Use only the correct screws: Short pan-head machine screws attach the bracket to the camera; long flat-head wood screws mount hardware to a wall or other surface.
- Connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi: Check signal strength at the final mounting location.
- Add local storage if wanted: Insert a compatible FAT32 or exFAT microSD card.
- Tune activity: Configure motion sensitivity, person detection, tracking, spotlight, siren and notification settings.
- Watch the battery for several weeks: A steady decline in sunny weather means the site or activity level exceeds the panel’s charging capacity.
Who should buy it?
Good fit
- Side yards, gates, driveways and detached areas without convenient wiring
- Locations with several hours of useful direct sunlight
- Owners who mainly need motion-triggered event clips
- Existing Wyze users who want one app and low hardware cost
Poor fit
- Anyone requiring guaranteed 24/7 recording on solar or battery power
- Buyers who need professional monitoring or emergency dispatch
- Sites with heavy shade, extreme winter darkness or constant motion
- People who require replaceable batteries, optical zoom or simultaneous all-direction coverage
- Owners unwilling to configure local storage or pay for cloud features
Price and ownership costs
On August 18, 2026, Wyze’s product page showed $79.98 for one camera, $149.98 for a two-pack ($74.99 each) and $219.98 for a three-pack (about $73.32 each). The page also showed 30-day returns and an 18-month extended warranty for purchases through Wyze.com. Prices, stock, shipping and promotions can change, so verify the current listing at Wyze’s product page.
Budget separately for a 5V/2A adapter if needed, a microSD card for local recording and a Wyze Services subscription if cloud storage or subscription-dependent features are important to you.
Verdict
The updated Wyze Solar Cam Pan 2K is a compelling low-cost option for event monitoring in a genuinely sunny location. Its panel can meaningfully reduce charging and may keep the battery topped up under favorable conditions. It is not an “install it and forget it” guarantee: solar yield, activity, Wi-Fi and weather all matter, the battery is non-removable, and pan-and-tilt event operation is a different job from continuous wired recording. Most importantly, verify the model and screw installation before using any original unit because of the 2026 recall.
