Registered construction workers in Gujarat can apply for several separate welfare schemes administered by the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (GBOCWWB). Depending on the event and the scheme’s current rules, support may cover children’s education, maternity, occupational disease or serious injury, funeral costs, accidental death or permanent disability, life insurance, coaching and qualifying housing allocations. A BOCW registration card does not by itself guarantee every payment: each scheme has its own beneficiary, trigger, documents, deadline and membership conditions.
Who can register as a Gujarat construction worker?
The general threshold described by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in its 10 August 2023 release is age 18 to under 60 and engagement in building or other construction work for at least 90 days during the preceding 12 months. State and Union Territory welfare boards use the BOCW framework to deliver programs such as life and disability cover, health and maternity support, transit or housing assistance, skill development and education aid.

Those are general registration conditions, not a universal test for every claim. A specific Gujarat scheme may impose additional requirements, while one catalogue entry—occupational-disease and serious-injury assistance—states that it has no income ceiling or age restriction. Check your current e-Nirman registration and renewal status, because an expired or inactive membership can affect a claim.

Education, higher education and tablet assistance
School and college support
The Gujarat Labour Commissioner identifies education assistance and higher-education assistance for children of registered workers. A secondary scheme summary reports annual amounts of ₹1,800 for Classes 1–5, ₹2,400 for Classes 6–8 and ₹8,000 for Classes 9–10. The same summary describes larger amounts for senior-secondary, degree, professional and postgraduate courses, plus separate book and hostel assistance, but it does not establish every current figure in the accessible official rules.

That summary also reports support for up to two children. Treat both the amounts and the child limit as reported scheme terms rather than a guaranteed current tariff. The active application form or district office should confirm the child’s class or course, attendance or enrollment evidence, bank details and whether book or hostel components are available in the relevant year.
Tablet and technology support
The state listing separately names tablet assistance and says tablets, computers and laptops can help children access courses and technology. It does not state a current tablet amount, eligible models, an approved vendor list or whether a purchase is reimbursed. Do not buy a device assuming that the Board will refund it; first check the live scheme notice and required proof.
Maternity assistance for a worker or the worker’s wife
Registered female worker
The official Gujarat listing describes assistance for the first two deliveries of a registered female construction worker. The stated total is ₹37,500, made up of ₹5,000 delivery assistance, ₹2,500 nutrition assistance and ₹30,000 for wage loss. Payment is described as direct benefit transfer.

Wife of a registered worker
A separate provision is described for the first two deliveries of a registered worker’s wife, with assistance of ₹6,000. The public description does not establish every document or timing rule for this provision, so use the current form rather than assuming that the worker’s own maternity checklist applies.
Staged-payment detail reported elsewhere
A secondary summary reports a ₹17,500 pre-delivery advance for a registered female worker and a ₹20,000 post-delivery balance. The official state listing presents pre-delivery assistance separately but does not expose all of the same detail in its accessible text. Treat the staged figures as reported terms and verify them with the Board before planning around them.

Medical treatment and occupational-disease assistance
What the scheme covers
The Labour Commissioner’s listing says the occupational-disease program covers 15 occupational diseases and 23 serious injuries. It describes free treatment and financial assistance up to ₹3,00,000. Monthly assistance is listed at ₹1,500 where disability is below 90% and ₹3,000 where disability is from 90% to 100%.
The myScheme catalogue says the disability must result from an occupational disease or serious injury and that treatment is provided in a state-approved hospital. Unlike the general BOCW registration threshold, that catalogue entry states no income ceiling or age restriction for this particular scheme.
Documents commonly listed
The myScheme entry names an e-Nirman card, photograph, hospital discharge certificate, bank passbook, ration card, life certificate and UDID card. A claim may require only some of these or additional medical evidence, depending on the diagnosis and disability assessment. Ask the hospital or district office for the current checklist before submitting originals.
Housing assistance is conditional, not a general cash grant
Shri Nanaji Deshmukh housing assistance is described as ₹1,60,000 for an eligible registered worker’s family. The public conditions include at least two years from registration, no house owned by the family and an allotment of qualifying EWS, LIG or MIG housing through an urban local body, urban development authority or Gujarat Housing Board under a named housing program.
This structure matters: the Board’s contribution is transferred to the housing-allotting authority. It is therefore tied to a qualifying housing allocation rather than an unrestricted payment that a worker can use for any construction, rent or private purchase. Obtain written confirmation that the particular allotment and authority meet the scheme definition before counting on the contribution.
Funeral, accidental-death and permanent-disability assistance
Funeral assistance
When a registered worker dies during active membership, the Labour Commissioner describes ₹10,000 in funeral assistance for heirs. The stated filing limit is six months. Heirs should preserve the death certificate, proof of relationship, the worker’s e-Nirman or membership record and the bank details requested by the current form.

Accident at an active construction site
A separate scheme provides up to ₹3,00,000 when a worker dies or becomes permanently disabled in an accident during ongoing work at a construction site. The state page says this scheme can cover both registered and unregistered workers, which is different from many membership-based benefits. Whether a particular incident qualifies depends on the worksite circumstances and proof, so report the accident promptly and confirm the required employer, police, medical or site records with the Board.
Insurance and other support listed by the Board
PMJJBY-linked assistance
The Labour Commissioner’s public description links assistance to Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY). It describes eligible enrolled workers aged 18–50 receiving reimbursement of the ₹330 annual premium through direct benefit transfer and states ₹2 lakh life cover for natural death. These are the terms in the listing; they should not be treated as proof that a worker is currently enrolled. Confirm the bank-linked policy, premium debit and current insurer conditions.
Coaching and skilled-worker assistance
The state scheme page also lists skilled-worker assistance, coaching and other support. The accessible description does not provide a complete current amount or eligibility schedule for each item. If you are applying for training, exam coaching or skill-related help, ask the district office which notice is active, who may apply and whether attendance or course-completion proof is required.

How to apply through the Gujarat system
- Open the Gujarat BOCW Board e-Nirman service. Start with the Board’s live registration and scheme pages, not an old screenshot or third-party form.
- Register or confirm membership. Enter the worker’s identity and construction-work information and check that the registration and renewal are active.
- Log in and update the profile. Correct the address, family details, bank account and contact information before selecting a benefit.
- Select the event-specific scheme. Choose education, maternity, medical, housing, funeral, accident, insurance or another listed support. Read the current eligibility text because the public catalogue does not expose every rule consistently.
- Upload or enter the trigger evidence. Examples include school enrollment, delivery or miscarriage records, hospital and disability documents, housing allotment papers, death records or accident evidence.
- Submit and retain the acknowledgement. Save the application number, uploaded files and any correction request. Follow up through the portal or the relevant district office.
Some applications may also appear through the Labour Commissioner’s Shramsetu page. If a scheme named on the Labour Commissioner’s broad list is missing from the Board portal, ask the district office whether applications are temporarily closed, routed through another service or subject to a revised notice.

Keep a current e-Nirman card or registration record, identity and address proof, bank passbook or account details and a recent photograph available. Add the document that proves the event: school or college enrollment for education, delivery or medical records for maternity, discharge and disability records for medical claims, allotment documents for housing, or death and accident evidence for contingency claims.
- Medical claims may require a state-approved hospital discharge certificate, life certificate and UDID card.
- Funeral assistance is described with a six-month application limit.
- Maternity applications are described with a 12-month post-delivery period, and miscarriage is included.
- Education, housing, insurance and accident deadlines are not fully stated in the accessible public descriptions; confirm them on the active form.
Use the live scheme form as the definitive document list. A district office can tell you whether copies, attestations, originals or additional certificates are required for your case.

How to decide which benefit to pursue
Workers do not select one all-purpose package. Match the event to the scheme and check five points before filing:

- Status: active BOCW membership, insurance enrollment or, for the worksite-accident scheme, possible coverage even without registration.
- Payment: direct benefit transfer, monthly assistance, a one-time amount or a contribution sent to a housing authority.
- Evidence and deadline: the event record, medical or institutional proof and the time limit in the current notice.
This checklist prevents a common mistake: treating the amount advertised for one event as though it applied to another. For example, the ₹37,500 maternity figure is not a general family grant, and the ₹1,60,000 housing amount is not unrestricted cash.
What Gujarat’s published figures show
A Government of India Rajya Sabha annex published in 2025 reports statewide delivery across FY 2022–23 through FY 2024–25. Gujarat reported 14,744 BOCW workers receiving maternity benefits, with ₹24.61 crore disbursed; 127,100 receiving educational assistance, with ₹128.26 crore disbursed; and 260,338 receiving health insurance, with ₹38.32 crore disbursed.
These are totals for the state and the stated three-year period. They show that benefits have been delivered at scale, but they do not predict whether an individual application will be approved or how much that applicant will receive.
Common reasons an application needs clarification
- Using an old amount: secondary summaries may contain figures that are not reproduced in the current official notice.
- Assuming registration equals approval: every scheme has its own trigger and evidence.
- Missing the event deadline: the published six-month funeral and 12-month maternity periods should be treated seriously.
- Applying with an inactive profile: update renewal, bank and family details before submitting.
- Buying a tablet before checking the rule: the public page does not confirm a model, amount or reimbursement method.
- Expecting a housing payment directly: the stated housing contribution is transferred to the qualifying allotting authority.
- Assuming every medical injury qualifies: the medical scheme refers to specified occupational diseases and serious injuries, with treatment at a state-approved hospital.
Because the public Gujarat pages contain uneven detail, confirm current rules, application availability and document requirements through the live e-Nirman portal or a district Board office before relying on any amount or deadline.
