Before paying for a cruise from Naha, identify the exact berth—not merely “Naha Port”—and match it to your airport transfer, hotel, shuttle, facilities and check-in instructions. Naha Cruise Terminal and Naha Port 2nd Cruise Berth are separate locations with different access conditions and passenger amenities. Confirm the berth printed on your sailing documents with the cruise line or travel agency, then build your travel plan around that specific location.
1. Confirm which Naha berth your ship will use
“Naha Port” is not a precise passenger meeting point. The Naha Port Authority distinguishes the main Naha Cruise Terminal from the Naha Port 2nd Cruise Berth, and the two should not be treated as interchangeable when you choose a hotel, book a transfer or arrange a meeting point.

Naha Cruise Terminal
The Naha Port Authority’s terminal guide gives the main terminal address as 2-1 Tondo-cho, Naha-shi, Okinawa 900-0035. Use that full address when checking a map, sending it to a driver or comparing hotels. A generic map result for “Naha Port” can point to a different port area.

The authority’s FAQ identifies the Second Cruise Berth separately in Minato-cho. It is not simply another entrance to the main terminal. The 2025 Okinawa Cruise Guide says the berth was not fully operational at the time of publication, so its services and operating arrangements should be reconfirmed for your sailing.

Use the berth name on your booking
Ask the cruise line or the travel agency that issued your ticket to state the berth in writing. Save the berth name, address, map pin and terminal entrance with your booking documents. If the operator has not assigned a berth yet, ask when that information will be released and whether a later change is possible.
| Check | Naha Cruise Terminal | Naha Port 2nd Cruise Berth |
|---|---|---|
| Location information | 2-1 Tondo-cho, Naha-shi, Okinawa 900-0035 | Minato-cho area, identified separately by the Naha Port Authority |
| Airport estimate | Less than a 10-minute drive in the 2025 Okinawa guide | About 15 minutes by vehicle in the authority FAQ; about 20 minutes by car in the 2025 guide |
| Nearby services described in sources | Free Wi-Fi, tourist information, an ATM, currency-exchange machines and an observation deck | No convenience stores within walking distance in the 2025 guide; no coin lockers in the authority FAQ |
| Access consideration | The port authority does not arrange taxis or city shuttles; ask the cruise or tour provider about transport | The authority requests vehicle access because freight vehicles use the port road outside |
The figures in the table are estimates or guide descriptions, not guarantees for a particular sailing. Berth assignments, traffic and available services can change.
2. Match the berth to your airport and hotel plan
Once you know the berth, compare its access estimate with your flight arrival, hotel location and the cruise operator’s required arrival time. The 2025 Okinawa guide places the main terminal less than a 10-minute drive from Naha Airport. For the Second Cruise Berth, the port FAQ gives an estimate of about 15 minutes by vehicle from the airport, while the same 2025 guide uses about 20 minutes by car from both the airport and Kokusai Street.

They do not account for flight delays, baggage collection, road congestion, queues at the terminal or a driver who cannot find the correct entrance. Treat them as a starting point, not as the amount of time you can safely leave between landing and check-in.
Questions to answer before booking flights
- What is the operator’s latest recommended arrival time at the assigned berth?
- Does that time allow for immigration or domestic baggage collection, depending on your itinerary?
- Will your hotel store luggage if you arrive before check-in?
- What is your fallback if a flight is delayed or a taxi queue is long?
- Can you reach the berth without crossing the city during the busiest traffic period?
If you are flying in on embarkation day, a same-day connection leaves less protection against disruption than arriving in Naha the previous night. The berth-specific transfer estimate should be compared with the operator’s deadline, not with the ship’s advertised departure time alone.
3. Establish exactly who provides your shuttle
Do not assume that the port authority provides a passenger bus. Its FAQ says the authority does not arrange taxis or city shuttles for the main terminal. A cruise line or tour company may arrange a shuttle, but that is a provider service and must be confirmed with the company that sold your cruise.
Get shuttle details in writing
- Whether a shuttle operates on your sailing date
- Where it boards at the airport, hotel or another meeting point
- Its first and last departure times
- Whether a reservation is required and whether luggage has restrictions
- What happens if your flight arrives after the final shuttle
- Whether the service is included in your fare or paid separately
For the Second Cruise Berth, the authority’s access note is especially important: freight vehicles use the outside port road, and the authority requests access by vehicle. Do not plan on walking from a distant public-transport stop with heavy luggage unless the cruise operator specifically confirms a safe passenger route and entrance.

Give drivers the correct destination
Tell a taxi or transfer company the assigned berth and terminal name, not just “Naha Port.” Show the written address or map pin. If the operator changes the berth, update the driver and any hotel transfer immediately; a reservation made for Tondo-cho will not automatically serve a Minato-cho berth.
4. Obtain the cruise line’s check-in instructions
The Naha Port Authority’s cruise-call page directs passengers to confirm their meeting time and place with their travel agency. Its public ship-call schedule is not a passenger check-in timetable. The schedule is based on applications from ship agents, and the authority notes that some calls are not publicly shown.
Ask the cruise operator or booking agency for a sailing-specific notice covering:
- Required check-in and boarding times
- The terminal entrance or designated meeting point
- Passport, visa and other travel-document requirements for your itinerary
- Baggage drop-off rules and prohibited items
- Whether online check-in is required before arrival
- Instructions for late arrival, missed transfers or a changed berth
- A telephone number that works on the day of embarkation
Keep the operator’s instructions separate from port-operational information. The authority’s September 2019 “Naha Port Entry/Departure Procedures for Large Passenger Ships” describes coordination among port officials, ship agents, vessels, pilots and passenger-service providers. It explains how port operations are coordinated; it does not establish a universal passenger check-in time.

That official instruction is the safest rule when a public schedule and your booking notice appear different: follow the operator’s passenger notice and ask for clarification rather than inferring your arrival time from the ship’s port call.
5. Check what you can buy or store at the assigned berth
Facilities differ enough to affect what you pack and when you shop. The 2025 guide lists free Wi-Fi, tourist information, an ATM, currency-exchange machines and an observation deck at the main Naha Cruise Terminal. Those services can be useful if you need directions, cash or a final look at the city before boarding, but confirm current availability for your date.
The same guide says the Second Cruise Berth has no convenience stores within walking distance and describes it as not fully operational. The authority FAQ says there are no coin lockers there. If you are using that berth, buy snacks, drinks, medication and other essentials before entering the port area, and arrange luggage storage through your hotel or cruise provider rather than relying on a terminal locker.
Questions for the operator or port contact
- Is the listed terminal facility open during my check-in window?
- Is Wi-Fi available at the berth assigned to my ship?
- Are ATMs or currency-exchange machines operating?
- Can I leave luggage anywhere before check-in?
- Are food, drinks and basic medicines available nearby?
These are service descriptions from the port authority and the 2025 guide, not a permanent guarantee. Reconfirm them when you receive your final embarkation instructions.
6. Decide whether a pre-cruise hotel night is worthwhile
A hotel near central Naha may make sightseeing easy, while a hotel chosen solely by the words “near Naha Port” may leave you at the wrong berth. Compare the hotel’s address with the assigned terminal and ask the property which transfer companies can reach that entrance.
Arriving the previous night can remove the risk of a flight delay turning into a missed check-in. It also gives you time to buy supplies if your berth has few nearby services. If you arrive on embarkation day, select a flight with a substantial margin before the operator’s check-in deadline and keep the cruise line’s emergency contact accessible.
Rank #4
Do not use the ship’s scheduled departure as your target arrival time. Cruise lines can close check-in and baggage acceptance before the vessel leaves, and the port authority does not publish one universal passenger deadline for every operator.
7. Plan sightseeing without jeopardising embarkation
Naha is walkable enough for a short pre- or post-cruise visit, but sightseeing should fit around the operator’s deadline. The 2025 Okinawa guide describes a Naha itinerary of about five hours and seven kilometres that includes Naminoue Shrine and Beach, Fukushu-en Garden and Kokusai Street.
The guide places the main cruise terminal about a 20-minute walk, or roughly 1.6 kilometres, from Kokusai Street. That makes a central-Naha visit feasible for some passengers, provided they carry only what they can manage and leave time to return to the correct berth. The guide also warns that street congestion can delay taxis.
Build a return buffer
- Set a personal return time earlier than the cruise line’s final check-in.
- Allow extra time if you need to collect stored luggage or change transport.
- Use the exact terminal address when ordering a taxi.
- Avoid an itinerary that depends on one last taxi during a congested period.
- Ask the operator whether shore excursions or independent visitors must use a particular entrance.
The walking itinerary is a guide example, not a recommended minimum or a promise that every attraction will be open. Treat it as an option for passengers whose schedule and berth make the return practical.

- Identify the berth: obtain “Naha Cruise Terminal” or “Naha Port 2nd Cruise Berth” in writing.
- Verify the map: check the berth-specific address and entrance rather than a generic Naha Port location.
- Compare transfers: match the relevant airport and city estimate to your flight, hotel and check-in deadline.
- Confirm transport: ask whether the cruise line or tour company runs a shuttle, where it boards and what happens if you miss it.
- Request passenger rules: obtain check-in time, meeting point, documents, baggage instructions and late-arrival procedures from the operator.
- Check facilities: confirm Wi-Fi, cash services, food, luggage storage and other necessities for your assigned berth.
- Set a contingency: keep the operator’s day-of contact details and a backup transfer plan.
- Schedule sightseeing last: only after the embarkation deadline and return journey are fixed.
Common booking mistakes and how to prevent them
Booking a hotel from a generic port pin
Why it fails: the two cruise locations are separate and may require different roads and transfers.
Prevention: book only after the operator confirms the berth, then send the exact address to the hotel or driver.
Best Value
Assuming the port authority runs a shuttle
Why it fails: the authority says it does not arrange taxis or city shuttles for the main terminal.
Prevention: obtain shuttle confirmation from the cruise line or travel agency, including operating times and the boarding point.
Relying on the public ship-call schedule
Why it fails: the schedule is based on ship-agent applications, some calls are not public, and it is not a passenger check-in notice.
Recommended Free Tools
Prevention: follow the sailing-specific meeting and check-in instructions supplied by the operator.
Planning to shop after reaching the Second Cruise Berth
Why it fails: the 2025 guide reports no convenience stores within walking distance, and the authority reports no coin lockers.
Prevention: buy essentials beforehand and arrange luggage handling in advance.
Cutting sightseeing too close to boarding
Why it fails: taxi journeys can be slowed by Naha traffic, and a walk from central Naha still requires a return to the correct terminal.

Final decision before you pay
A Naha cruise is ready to book when you can answer five questions without guessing: Which berth is assigned? What is its exact address? How will you get there from the airport or hotel? What passenger check-in time and meeting point has the operator issued? What will and will not be available at that berth? If any answer is missing, ask the cruise line or travel agency before committing to flights, hotels or non-refundable transfers. Terminal services, traffic conditions, berth assignments, shuttle operations and check-in instructions can change, so verify them again when your final sailing notice arrives.
