What Viakable plans to build in La Salle
The planned expansion would add a 22,000-square-foot facility addition to Viakable’s La Salle operation. The company also plans to install 17 advanced machines and upgrade critical utilities, including construction of a new electrical substation. The project is intended to support wire drawing, cabling, extrusion and packaging. Illinois Governor’s Office and DCEO announced the scope on October 7, 2026.

Illinois says the completed project is expected to significantly increase capacity for the U.S. electrical infrastructure market. The public announcement does not quantify that expected increase.

Investment, jobs and state support
The announced investment is $55 million. Viakable committed to creating at least 50 new full-time jobs and retaining 65 existing full-time positions at the operation, according to the state announcement. The figures describe commitments tied to a planned project, not results already achieved.

Illinois says the project will receive support through the state’s EDGE program. The announcement does not establish a specific tax-credit amount or payment schedule, so neither should be inferred from the investment figure.
What Viakable makes and why Illinois connects the project to Mexico
Illinois describes Viakable as a XIGNUX company that manufactures cable for electricity generation, transmission and distribution. The company has operated in La Salle since 2018.

State officials have linked the expansion to Governor JB Pritzker’s spring 2025 trade mission to Mexico. That is the state’s framing of the project’s context; the available announcement does not establish that the mission was the sole cause of the investment.

Governor Pritzker said he was proud Viakable was “doubling down on their commitment to Illinois.” XIGNUX CEO Juan Ignacio Garza Herrera described the investment as reflecting the company’s “long-term commitment to La Salle, Illinois.” Viakable CEO Carlos Ramos said the project would increase manufacturing capacity and support delivery of energy-infrastructure solutions.

ConstructConnect’s October 9, 2026, coverage likewise reported that the schedule and contractor had not been announced.
