To pair an LG wireless subwoofer, connect it to its compatible LG soundbar—not to the TV or phone. The soundbar-to-subwoofer link is separate from Bluetooth, HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, or LG Sound Sync connections used for the soundbar itself. Because LG uses different buttons, reset methods, and LED meanings across soundbar families, the exact model manual is the authority for the final pairing steps.
Use the process below to identify the correct equipment, prepare both units, pair them safely, and determine whether a missing-bass problem is actually caused by the TV connection.

First: confirm that the subwoofer matches the soundbar
Find the model number on the label on the rear or underside of both units. Then search the LG Support website for the soundbar model and download its owner’s manual.

A subwoofer from a visually similar LG package may not be recognized by your soundbar, even if it uses wireless communication.

Compatibility is especially important when:
- You bought the soundbar and subwoofer separately.
- The equipment is second-hand.
- You replaced the original soundbar but kept the old subwoofer.
- The original subwoofer is missing and you are considering a replacement.
If the manual does not identify the replacement subwoofer as compatible, pause before buying or repeatedly resetting it. A genuine, model-matched replacement is a better option than a generic listing that only says “LG-compatible.”
Understand the three connections people confuse

Pairing your phone with the soundbar does not automatically pair the subwoofer. Likewise, selecting the subwoofer in a television’s Bluetooth menu is normally the wrong procedure. The subwoofer is intended to link to the soundbar, which then receives audio from the TV or another source.
LG’s Sound Sync and soundbar connection guidance describes Bluetooth as a connection for a mobile device or compatible TV to the soundbar, not as a universal subwoofer-pairing method.
Prepare the equipment before pairing
- Turn the soundbar off.
- Place the subwoofer close to the soundbar for setup. A temporary distance of roughly 15 feet or less is a useful discovery precaution, not a guaranteed operating range for every LG subwoofer.
- Connect both units directly to reliable wall outlets.
- Move the subwoofer away from a router, cabinet, large metal object, or other source of wireless interference.
- Turn off Bluetooth on nearby phones, tablets, computers, and other soundbars while pairing.
- Locate the subwoofer’s pairing button. It may be on the rear panel, recessed, or labeled differently depending on the model.
- Have the exact soundbar manual open. Do not substitute a button sequence from another LG model.
If either unit appears stuck, unplug both briefly, reconnect the subwoofer first, and then turn on the soundbar. Follow the manual’s instructions if it specifies a different order.
How to pair the LG subwoofer with the soundbar
LG does not publish one button sequence that applies to every LG soundbar and wireless-subwoofer combination. Use this as the safe framework, then follow the exact commands and hold times in your model’s manual.
- Enter pairing mode on the subwoofer. Press or hold the rear-panel pairing button exactly as the manual specifies. Some recessed buttons may require a small, non-damaging pointed object.
- Activate wireless-subwoofer pairing on the soundbar if required. Certain models pair automatically after the subwoofer is reset; others require a remote-control command or a soundbar-button sequence.
- Keep the units close and wait. Do not move either unit or repeatedly press buttons while the connection is being established.
- Check the success indicator. Depending on the model, the subwoofer may show a steady status light, or the soundbar may display a connected or paired message.
- Play content with noticeable bass. Try music, a movie effect, or another source, then adjust the subwoofer level if your remote or soundbar app provides that control.
LED colors and flashing patterns are not universal. LG’s status-indicator guidance recommends using the product manual because meanings differ among soundbar models.

Important: the TV’s Bluetooth device list is for TV-to-audio-device connections. Do not use it to pair the wireless subwoofer unless the manual for your exact system explicitly says to do so.
Connect the soundbar to the TV separately
If the soundbar itself produces no sound, the problem may be the TV-to-soundbar connection rather than the subwoofer.
HDMI ARC or eARC
Connect the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s HDMI ARC/eARC port. Set the TV’s sound output to HDMI ARC/eARC and select the corresponding HDMI input on the soundbar. LG notes that ARC operation may also require SIMPLINK or HDMI-CEC to be enabled, and that support varies by model. See LG’s ARC connection instructions.
HDMI ARC connects the TV and soundbar; it does not replace the wireless link between the soundbar and subwoofer.
Optical
Connect the TV’s optical output to the soundbar’s optical input. Select optical output on the TV and optical mode on the soundbar. This can be a straightforward alternative when ARC is unavailable or unreliable, but it still does not pair the subwoofer.
LG Sound Sync
On a compatible LG TV, the current path is generally Home → Settings → Sound → Sound Out → LG Sound Sync Wireless → Device Selection. Put the soundbar into its LG TV or pairing mode using the model’s specified control. LG Sound Sync requires compatible LG equipment; it is not a universal feature for every television.

Bluetooth TV connection
For an LG TV connected to a Bluetooth-capable soundbar, menu labels depend on webOS:
- webOS 26 or later:
Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Bluetooth Devices → Connectable Devices - webOS 6.0 or later:
Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Use Wireless Speaker → Bluetooth Devices → Connectable Devices - webOS 5.0 or earlier:
Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Bluetooth → Connectable Devices
These menus connect the TV to the soundbar or another supported Bluetooth audio device. They are not normally the subwoofer-pairing workflow. LG notes that menu names can vary by television model. Its current Bluetooth TV guide is dated July 24, 2026.

The subwoofer has no light
- Try another wall outlet.
- Test the original outlet with another device.
- Check the subwoofer’s power switch, if it has one.
- Confirm that the power cord is fully inserted and undamaged.
- Check the manual to determine whether the unit is in standby.
If the subwoofer remains completely unresponsive, suspect a power or hardware problem rather than a pairing mistake. Do not open the cabinet; power supplies can retain dangerous voltage. Stop immediately if there is a burning smell, liquid damage, a damaged cord, arcing, or unusual electrical noise.
The indicator blinks or never becomes steady
- Move the subwoofer next to the soundbar.
- Turn off nearby Bluetooth devices and other wireless audio equipment.
- Power-cycle both units.
- Repeat the exact model-specific reset and pairing procedure.
- Check the manual’s LED table instead of assuming that a particular color means “paired.”
A flashing indicator can mean waiting, a failed connection, standby, or another status depending on the model.
The soundbar works, but there is no bass
First confirm that pairing actually succeeded. Then:
- Raise the soundbar volume and subwoofer level.
- Make sure the soundbar is not muted.
- Try a different source, such as a phone, television app, or physical input.
- Try a different sound mode if the model offers one.
- Check that the TV is sending audio to the soundbar rather than its internal speakers.
- Listen to content with clear low-frequency effects; speech-heavy programming may contain little bass.
LG’s no-audio troubleshooting recommends checking the selected source, input, volume, and connection type before concluding that the soundbar or subwoofer has failed.

The subwoofer works only when it is very close
Use the short-distance setup to complete pairing, then relocate it gradually. If the link drops at normal room distance, reduce obstructions and avoid placing the subwoofer beside networking equipment or other wireless transmitters. LG’s recommendation to keep devices within 15 feet applies to Bluetooth discovery troubleshooting; it should not be treated as a universal range specification for LG subwoofers.

A replacement subwoofer is not detected
Stop resetting it and recheck the model numbers. Confirm in the soundbar’s official manual or parts documentation that the replacement is supported. A subwoofer may be fully functional yet impossible to pair because it belongs to another LG soundbar family.
When to repair or replace the system
Contact LG Support or arrange service if the subwoofer has power but never enters its documented pairing mode, remains unresponsive after the correct procedure, repeatedly disconnects in a clear environment, or shows signs of electrical damage.
For an older system, compare the cost and availability of a genuine matching subwoofer with replacing the complete soundbar package. Replacing only the subwoofer is sensible when a confirmed compatible unit is readily available and the soundbar otherwise meets your needs. Replacing the entire system may be more practical when the matching subwoofer is unavailable or the soundbar lacks features you now need, such as HDMI ARC/eARC support.
An HDMI or optical cable can improve the TV-to-soundbar connection, but neither cable repairs the wireless subwoofer link. Choose cables as a solution to a TV audio-routing problem, not as a substitute for compatible subwoofer pairing.

A quick decision checklist
- Is the soundbar model known?
- Is the subwoofer model known?
- Does official LG documentation confirm that they belong together?
- Do both units have reliable power?
- Are they close together during setup?
- Are nearby Bluetooth devices disabled?
- Did you follow the exact manual rather than a generic button sequence?
- Does the model-specific LED or display confirm the link?
- Is the TV sending audio to the soundbar through the selected input?
- Have you tested another source and adjusted the subwoofer level?
