Yes, the machine is real—but not in the way the viral headline suggests. NexLawn’s Master X is a robotic lawnmower concept with a retractable mechanical arm. The company says it could trim, weed, move branches and toys, harvest fruit, and interact with pets. However, the dog-fetch scene came from a promotional 3D animation, and NexLawn has not announced a consumer price or release date for the arm-equipped mower.

What is the robot lawnmower called?

The machine is generally known as the NexLawn Master X. NexLawn’s own announcement calls it the Master X Vison, while other coverage refers to it as the Master X Series Concept. These names describe the same arm-equipped mower concept.

What makes it different from a normal robot mower?

Most robotic mowers are designed to cut grass and return to a charging station. Master X adds an articulated mechanical arm to the mower chassis, turning it into a proposed multifunctional outdoor-maintenance robot.

Designed for complex yard layouts and personalized lawn care.

According to NexLawn, the arm measures approximately 44.5 centimetres (17.5 inches) when folded and can extend to around 77 centimetres, with a stated maximum reach of up to one metre. The mower has a four-wheel-drive chassis described as 25 centimetres high.

The proposed interchangeable attachments include:

  • A multi-gripper for handling selected objects
  • A trimmer head
  • An edging-disc head
  • Additional tools that NexLawn said could be developed later

Those figures are company-provided specifications for a concept. They are not independent test results, and they do not establish how much weight the arm can lift or how accurately it can work in a real garden.

What is the arm supposed to do?

NexLawn presents the arm as a way to extend a mower beyond grass cutting. Its announced uses include trimming, weeding, picking up branches and toys, harvesting fruit, and interacting with pets. The practical idea is that the robot could remove some objects from its route rather than requiring the owner to clear the lawn first.

That obstacle-clearing use may be more immediately plausible than the flashy fruit-and-fetch claims. A branch, child’s toy, or other object can interrupt mowing. A robot that can identify a suitable object, pick it up, and place it somewhere safe could reduce some routine manual maintenance.

But the available announcement does not explain where the objects go. It does not specify a storage bin, basket, trailer, disposal area, or human handoff system for branches, toys, weeds, or picked fruit. Picking something up is only one part of making the task genuinely autonomous.

Can it really pick fruit?

NexLawn says the concept is intended to harvest fruit, but that should not be treated as proof that Master X is a production-ready agricultural harvester.

Fruit picking is considerably more difficult than gripping a rigid toy or small branch. A useful system would need to cope with different fruit sizes, colours, ripeness levels, stems, leaves, branches, and weather conditions. It would also need to apply enough force to secure the fruit without bruising it.

The sources do not specify which crops the robot can handle, how high it can reach, whether it picks fruit from trees or gathers fallen fruit, how much it can carry, or what percentage of fruit it can collect without damage. The stated one-metre reach should not be interpreted as evidence that it can reach every part of a tree or operate like a commercial orchard machine.

The most accurate description is therefore a robotic lawnmower concept with a manipulator arm designed for possible light yard-maintenance tasks—not a proven fruit-picking robot.

How does the dog-fetch feature work?

The dog-fetch claim comes from a promotional 3D animated video. The video depicts the mower throwing a ball for a dog, but available coverage does not establish that a physical prototype autonomously performed this action in a real yard.

That distinction matters. The animation does not prove that Master X can:

  • Recognise a particular dog or ball
  • Choose a safe throwing direction and force
  • Retrieve the ball afterwards
  • Distinguish a ball from fruit, toys, or other objects
  • Operate safely around animals
  • Keep its cutting system safely inactive during play

Coverage of the demonstration identifies it as a concept animation rather than evidence of a tested pet-care product. A dog might also chase, fear, bite, or obstruct an autonomous mower, creating challenges that a polished animation does not show.

Is the NexLawn Master X available to buy?

There is no confirmed consumer product to buy based on the available information. NexLawn did not announce a Master X price or retail release date, and independent coverage describes it as a prototype or concept. Heise’s report likewise notes the absence of a confirmed launch plan.

NexLawn also discussed its VIDAR and VIDAR AWD mower ranges, with plans for Europe and North America in spring 2026. Those are separate product families. They should not be confused with the arm-equipped Master X or treated as evidence that the concept is available.

For updates, the relevant place to monitor is NexLawn’s official website. Until the company publishes a product page, price, specifications, safety information, and ordering details, a marketplace listing or social-media video should not be treated as proof of availability.

Why add a robotic arm to a mower?

The concept points toward a broader category of outdoor robots that can perform several related jobs from one platform. Potential benefits include:

  • Clearing small branches and toys from the mowing route
  • Reaching lawn edges with a dedicated edging tool
  • Pulling selected weeds or trimming vegetation
  • Handling some fallen fruit
  • Reducing the need for separate garden equipment

There is also an obvious trade-off. Compared with a conventional robot mower, an articulated arm introduces additional motors, joints, sensors, software, exposed mechanisms, cleaning requirements, and weatherproofing challenges. It could increase weight, power consumption, purchase cost, repair complexity, and the number of ways the machine can fail.

What would need to be proven?

Before treating an arm-equipped mower as a practical household machine, buyers would need clear answers about:

  • Real-world mowing performance and battery life
  • Arm reliability in rain, mud, grass clippings, and plant sap
  • Maximum object weight and gripper limitations
  • Whether it can safely distinguish branches, toys, fruit, pets, and people
  • Emergency-stop behaviour while the mower or arm is moving
  • Protection from pinch and crush points
  • How it behaves around children, dogs, and other animals
  • Whether the blades stop during arm operation or pet interaction
  • Attachment, arm, and battery replacement costs
  • Parts, servicing, software support, and warranty coverage
  • How much human supervision is required

Possible edge cases include a gripper dropping an object back into the cutting path, a branch being too heavy or tangled to move, the mower becoming stuck with the arm extended, or the robot damaging a plant while attempting to weed or pick fruit. These are engineering questions raised by the concept, not documented Master X incidents.

The verdict

NexLawn’s Master X is a genuine robotic-mower concept shown at IFA 2025. Its retractable arm and interchangeable tools are intended to explore mowing combined with light yard maintenance. The company has discussed fruit harvesting and pet interaction, but the evidence does not establish reliable real-world fruit picking, safe autonomous fetch, animal testing, or retail availability.

In short: the robot exists as a concept, the dog-fetch sequence is animated, and there is no confirmed Master X product, price, or release date to buy.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
