Best overall: Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra
The S8 MaxV Ultra was the strongest all-around Roborock recommendation in 2024 because it combined capable vacuuming and mopping with the most complete automation package. It uses a DuoRoller brush, manufacturer-rated 10,000Pa suction, LiDAR navigation, camera- and light-based obstacle recognition, automatic dust emptying, water refilling, mop washing and drying, heated mop washing, detergent dispensing, an extending side brush, and an extending mop.
Its biggest practical advantage over less expensive Qrevo models is not simply suction. The camera-based hazard-recognition system is intended to identify and avoid more types of objects. Independent comparison testing found its obstacle avoidance more advanced and reliable than the Qrevo Pro’s. That makes it the better choice for homes with toys, cables, shoes, pet bowls, and other clutter.

It is especially compelling for homes dominated by sealed hard floors. There are important limits. RTINGS found strong hard-floor pickup but only average carpet performance, with difficulty collecting fine material and pet hair on carpet. Small-object avoidance was also inconsistent, particularly on carpet. For a mostly hard-floor apartment, these compromises may be acceptable. For a carpet-heavy home or one with several shedding pets, favor the S8 MaxV Ultra or another model with stronger carpet evidence.
The Qrevo Pro is the better buy when its price is substantially below the S8 MaxV Ultra and your priorities are hard-floor cleaning, mopping, and reduced daily labor rather than the most advanced obstacle recognition.

The practical rule is simple: pay for the S8 MaxV Ultra when clutter avoidance, carpet performance, or maximum feature breadth matters. Choose the Qrevo Pro when your home is mainly hard floor and the price gap is large.
Best cheaper full-service model: Roborock Qrevo
The standard Qrevo retains the central self-maintenance concept: automatic dust emptying, water refilling, mop washing, mop drying, and dual rotating mop pads. It is the sensible lower-cost choice when those dock functions matter more than premium edge cleaning, heated mop washing, advanced object recognition, or higher advertised suction.

Compared with the Qrevo Pro, it generally gives up the Pro’s extending edge mop and heated-water feature. Regional configurations and later product generations can differ, so verify the exact model number before buying.

Premium alternatives
S8 Max Ultra
The S8 Max Ultra is the simpler premium alternative to the MaxV. It retains the DuoRoller design, sonic mopping, and a multifunction dock, while Roborock listed it at 8,000Pa rather than the MaxV’s 10,000Pa. It makes sense when discounted significantly and your priorities are vacuuming and dock automation rather than camera-based hazard recognition, onboard voice control, or the MaxV’s extending side brush.
Qrevo MaxV
The Qrevo MaxV narrows the gap between the Qrevo family and the flagship by combining dual spinning mops, an extending mop, a multifunction dock, and more advanced intelligence than simpler Qrevo models. It remains a mid/high-end alternative rather than an automatic S8 MaxV Ultra replacement: the S8 model’s DuoRoller design and stronger carpet-oriented proposition are more compelling for carpet-heavy homes.
S7 Max Ultra and older clearance models
An S7 Max Ultra can be worthwhile at a genuinely large discount, but not when it costs close to a newer Qrevo or S8 model. Older availability and accessory supply can be less predictable. Vacuum Wars reported that the S7 MaxV Ultra was no longer available for purchase when its page was updated in August 2024, so confirm stock and replacement-part availability before treating an older model as a current alternative.
Which Roborock fits your home?
- Mostly hard floors: choose the Qrevo Pro for the best balance of rotating-pad mopping and dock automation, or the standard Qrevo when it is meaningfully cheaper.
- Lots of carpet: favor the S8 MaxV Ultra or S8 Max Ultra. The Qrevo Pro’s independent carpet results are only moderate.
- Long-haired pets: choose the S8 MaxV Ultra if budget permits, but expect to inspect brushes, wheels, filters, and hair buildup regularly. No robot guarantees that manual vacuuming will disappear.
- Children, cables, or clutter: choose the S8 MaxV Ultra for its more advanced camera-based hazard recognition, while still preparing the floor before every run.
- Delicate rugs: create no-mop zones instead of relying entirely on automatic carpet detection. High-pile rugs, fringe, dark surfaces, and unusual transitions can cause problems.
- Small apartment: measure the dock before purchasing. A multifunction dock saves labor but occupies considerable floor and vertical space.
- Little tolerance for refilling tanks: consider a compatible refill-and-drainage version of the S8 MaxV Ultra, but only if you have suitable plumbing and intend to keep the dock permanently installed.
- Rarely mop: a simpler Q5 Pro+, Q7-style, or comparable vacuum-first model may be more sensible than paying for a mop-washing dock.
Why suction numbers do not decide the winner
Pa is a manufacturer-reported maximum, not a universal cleaning score. In Roborock’s 2024 comparison material, the S8 MaxV Ultra was listed at 10,000Pa, the S8 Max Ultra at 8,000Pa, the Qrevo MaxV and Qrevo Pro at 7,000Pa, and the standard Qrevo at 5,500Pa.
Those figures do not automatically establish better carpet pickup, pet-hair removal, edge cleaning, noise, battery efficiency, or real-world performance. Brush design, airflow, floor type, navigation, passes, and test methodology matter. Treat suction as one specification—not the ranking system.
Mopping realities
Rotating mop pads generally provide more mechanical scrubbing than a passive cloth. Mop lifting reduces the risk of wetting rugs, but it does not make every rug safe. Dried stains may need repeated passes, and mop washing reduces routine labor without eliminating maintenance.

The S8 MaxV Ultra’s official documentation provides carpet options such as lifting the mop, avoiding carpets, crossing carpets, or vacuuming carpets. These settings are useful, but no sensor is infallible; delicate or troublesome rugs should receive a no-mop zone in the app.

A full-service dock is not a small charging stand. Measure the width and depth of the dock, the clearance needed to open tanks, the space in front for docking, nearby power access, and whether the floor can tolerate occasional water spills.
Roborock lists approximate S8 MaxV Ultra dimensions of 350 × 353 × 103mm for the robot and 409 × 419 × 470mm for the standard dock. Confirm the dimensions for the exact regional SKU before installation.
Some S8 MaxV Ultra configurations support automatic water refill and drainage. That can reduce tank handling, but it requires suitable water and drain access, compatible installation, and the correct plumbing conditions. It is generally a poor fit for renters or anyone who cannot permanently position the dock.

App, privacy, Wi-Fi, and software considerations
The Roborock app supports room-by-room cleaning, schedules, no-go zones, no-mop zones, map editing, suction adjustments, water-flow controls, and carpet behavior settings. MaxV models add camera-based navigation and voice-related features.

The S8 MaxV Ultra was the best all-around Roborock of 2024 because it offered the most complete combination of vacuuming, mopping, obstacle recognition, and dock automation. Its premium is easiest to justify in carpeted, pet-heavy, or cluttered homes.

It delivered excellent practical mopping and a largely hands-off dock while accepting weaker carpet and small-object performance. The standard Qrevo was the better budget choice when full dock automation mattered more than edge cleaning and premium intelligence.
