For most beginners, the Chefman Electric Crepe Maker is the best place to start. It combines gentle, even heating with a nonstick surface and includes the spreader and spatula needed to learn the basic technique. If you would rather use cookware that stores in a cabinet, the Cuisinart Chef’s Classic 623C-24 is the most approachable stovetop option.
There is an important distinction behind those recommendations: “crepe maker” can mean either a dedicated countertop electric appliance or a shallow stovetop pan. This guide compares both categories rather than pretending that an electric 16-inch commercial machine and a 10-inch household pan serve the same purpose.

Electric crepe makers and stovetop crepe pans are not interchangeable. Electric models give you a dedicated flat cooking surface, built-in heat control, and—usually—a batter spreader. Stovetop pans are thinner, easier to store, and more versatile for everyday cooking, but they require you to manage burner heat yourself.

The 8 best crepe makers and pans
1. Chefman Electric Crepe Maker: best for beginners
The Chefman is the best starting point if you want an electric appliance that reduces the number of variables at the stove. Food Network Kitchen tested dozens of crepes and pancakes and selected it as its best electric crepe maker. Testers reported gentle, even heating and a nonstick cooking surface; in particular, it made very thin crepes without the center browning too quickly. That is a meaningful advantage for a first-time crepe maker, because an overheated center can set the batter before it has been spread to the edges.
The unit includes a wooden batter spreader, also called a rateau, and a spatula. Those tools make the intended workflow clear: preheat the plate, add a measured amount of batter, spread it quickly across the flat surface, then loosen and turn the crepe.

Before buying: confirm the exact current model number, plate diameter, warranty terms, and U.S. stock. Retail listings can change, and the available evidence supports the test results more strongly than a permanent set of model-specific retail details.
2. CucinaPro Electric Nonstick 12-inch Crepe Maker 1448: best all-around electric value
The CucinaPro 1448 offers a balanced set of features for ordinary home use: a 12-inch nonstick aluminum cooking plate, five temperature settings, a ready indicator light, rubber feet, and included batter spreader and spatula. The manufacturer also describes it as a breakfast griddle, so it can handle foods such as pancakes in addition to crepes.
A 12-inch plate is large enough for restaurant-style home crepes without taking up as much space as a commercial machine. Adjustable heat is preferable to a fixed-temperature design because thin batter, fillings, and different recipes may need slightly different settings.
Choose it if: you want one reasonably priced electric appliance with a full-size surface, basic heat adjustment, and uses beyond crepes.
Trade-off: this is a home countertop appliance, not commercial-duty equipment. Treat the nonstick surface carefully: use compatible utensils, avoid abrasive cleaning, and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. The manufacturer listed it at a promotional price and in stock during the research pass, but both price and inventory are volatile.
3. Proctor Silex 38400 13-inch Crepe Maker: best budget large-surface electric model
The Proctor Silex 38400 is a straightforward choice for shoppers who prioritize surface area and price. Its use-and-care manual identifies a 13-inch electric crepe maker with an eight-position temperature control. The manual specifies 120 volts, 60 Hz, and 1,000 watts, and editorial comparisons list it as an all-in-one model with a large cooking surface and spatula.

- 8-Inch Nonstick Crepe Maker: Make crepes, soft tortillas, blintzes, pancakes, egg rolls & chapati. Non-stick crepe pan heats in 30 seconds for breakfast prep. Compact design with 27.5" cord
- One-Touch Electric Crepe Pan with Auto Temp Control: Heats evenly with 800W (120V, 60Hz) power. Simple on/off switch. Automatic temperature controller prevents burning. 8" handle for comfort & storage
- Compact & Easy to Use: This nonstick crepe maker electric features an 8” die-cast aluminum surface that heats quick and evenly. Just preheat, dip, and flip to enjoy crepes in seconds—ideal for any home
- Easy-to-Clean Nonstick Surface: This round electric single crepe maker features a nonstick cooking plate that wipes clean with a damp cloth—no scrubbing or soaking needed
- Includes Batter Tray & Great Gift Idea: Compact electric crepe machine with dipping plate for easy prep—just dip and flip! Instant electric crepe maker for pancakes and more. A thoughtful gift for any occasion
The 13-inch format gives you more room to spread batter than a small pan, which can be useful for large dessert crepes or filled savory crepes. The eight-position control also gives more adjustment points on paper than many entry-level electric machines.
Choose it if: you want a large electric surface and simple controls without moving into commercial equipment.
Evidence limitation: current detailed information is supported mainly by the manual and retailer/editorial listings rather than a detailed current manufacturer product page. There is not enough evidence here to promise a particular coating chemistry, heating uniformity, or long-term durability.
4. NutriChef PCRM12: best low-cost 12-inch electric option
The NutriChef PCRM12 is a 12-inch tabletop crepe maker and griddle with a nonstick aluminum surface, rotary temperature control, LED indicators, a 1,200-watt heating element, and an included crepe spreader. NutriChef also lists pancakes, blintzes, bacon, and eggs among its possible uses.
That combination makes it attractive if crepes are only one part of your breakfast routine. The broad surface is more forgiving than a small frying pan when you are learning to spread batter, while the adjustable dial lets you respond to batter thickness and browning.

Choose it if: you want a budget-oriented electric maker with a 12-inch surface and general breakfast-griddle flexibility.
Keep expectations realistic: the manufacturer’s promotional pricing can change, and manufacturer specifications do not equal independent performance testing. The available evidence supports its stated dimensions, controls, power, and accessories—not a guarantee of heating uniformity or coating longevity.
5. Krampouz Diabolo CEBPF2BO: best premium beginner-friendly electric maker
The Krampouz Diabolo is designed around the part of crepe-making that beginners often find hardest: spreading batter into a thin, even circle. Its official specifications describe a 33-centimeter (approximately 13-inch) nonstick plate, 1,250 watts of power, an eight-position thermostat, included accessories, and a patented Easy Crep batter-spreading system. Krampouz also states that the machine is for indoor domestic use, includes a two-year warranty, and has replacement parts availability for 15 years.
The brand’s professional crepe-making heritage and dedicated spreading system make this a specialist option rather than simply another inexpensive hot plate.

- Non-Toxic Granite Coating: ESLITE LIFE nonstick crepe pan free of PTFE & PFOA, lead, cadmium and other toxic materials that can leach into your food, making them safe for you, your family and the environment
- Compatible with All Cooktops: Design with magnetized base makes it conducts heats quickly & evenly, used effectively on gas, ceramic, electric, and induction stove tops, made for any kitchen and cooktop. Oven safe to 302F

- Durability & Easy to Clean: The cast-aluminum body combined the advantage of cast-iron and traditional riveted cookware, requiring less oil or butter for cooking and minimal scrubbing for a spotless clean, giving you a healthier and more enjoyable at-home cooking experience
- Included Spreader Tool: Comes with a wooden spreader tool designed to help you evenly distribute batter across the pan surface for thin, uniform crepes, dosas, and tortillas every time
Critical geography warning: the official page specifies 230–240-volt operation. That makes this an unsuitable default recommendation for U.S. buyers unless a U.S.-compatible version is explicitly confirmed. Check the voltage, plug, local warranty, and return policy before ordering internationally; a plug adapter alone does not convert voltage.
6. Waring Commercial WSC160X: best for high-volume or commercial use
The Waring WSC160X is commercial food-service equipment, not a typical home crepe maker. Its official documentation specifies a 16-inch cast-iron cooking surface, 1,800 watts, an adjustable thermostat from 280°F to 570°F, and a one-year warranty. It includes or supports a batter spreader and crepe spatula.
The 16-inch surface is useful when serving repeatedly and needing large, consistent crepes. The wide temperature range gives an operator more control over different batters and production conditions.
Choose it if: you are outfitting a café, catering setup, food truck, or other high-volume operation.
Do not choose it for occasional home use unless you have a specific reason: the official specification sheet lists packaged weight at approximately 46.92 pounds and dimensions of 21 by 21.5 by 10.25 inches. It needs a strong, dedicated storage location and is far less convenient to move than a home pan or 12-inch appliance.
7. Cuisinart Chef’s Classic 623C-24: best affordable stovetop nonstick pan
The Cuisinart 623C-24 is the best choice here for someone who wants a conventional pan rather than a countertop machine. It is a 10-inch hard-anodized nonstick crêpe pan with Cuisinart’s PFAS-free PURELYCERAMIC nonstick interior, a cool-grip stainless handle, a 500°F oven rating, and a lifetime warranty. Cuisinart recommends hand-washing it.
Food Network Kitchen named this pan its best value in 2026 testing. Testers reported even heating, easy flipping, and easy cleanup; they also found that the usable cooking area was slightly larger than 8.5 inches despite the nominal 10-inch pan diameter.
Choose it if: you want the lowest-friction route to stovetop crepes, need compact storage, and prefer a pan that can also be used for other cooking.
Trade-off: it will generally produce smaller crepes than a 12- or 13-inch electric maker. Also check stock before planning a purchase: the official Cuisinart page showed the pan out of stock during the research pass, and availability can change.
8. de Buyer Mineral B Carbon Steel Crepe and Tortilla Pan: best for experienced cooks and longevity
The de Buyer Mineral B is the right type of pan for a cook who values a thin, responsive cooking surface and is willing to maintain it. The manufacturer describes it as 2.5-millimeter carbon steel made from 99% iron and 1% carbon, finished with beeswax, fitted with a riveted handle, and made in France. Sizes include approximately 9.5, 10.25, and 12 inches. The 12-inch version has a listed 10-inch cooking surface and weighs about four pounds.

Carbon steel is not naturally nonstick straight out of the box. It needs to be seasoned, and its release performance depends on the quality of that seasoning, adequate preheating, sufficient fat, and cooking technique. With care, the surface can improve through use and the pan can remain useful for years.

Care requirements: season it before regular use, avoid the dishwasher, and clean it without harsh detergent or prolonged soaking. Dry it thoroughly and apply a light protective film of oil when appropriate. It is heavier and less immediately forgiving than the Cuisinart, but it avoids dependence on a factory nonstick coating.
Premium alternative: Le Creuset Traditional Round Crepe Pan
Le Creuset’s Traditional Round Crepe Pan is a premium alternative for cooks who want cast-iron heat retention without the seasoning routine associated with bare carbon steel or cast iron. It uses enameled cast iron, has a low profile and gently sloped sides, and features a smooth black satin enamel cooking surface. The manufacturer says it requires no seasoning, works on induction, is oven-safe to 500°F, is dishwasher-safe, and includes a T-shaped rateau and thin spatula. It carries a limited lifetime warranty.
The main compromise is weight. Cast iron is not as quick or effortless to handle as a thin stovetop pan, even when its low profile is well suited to flipping crepes. The official U.S. page listed a suggested retail price of $184 during research, with some colors unavailable; treat both price and color availability as changeable.
Choose it if: you want premium enameled cookware, induction compatibility, and no seasoning requirement, and you are comfortable storing and handling a heavy pan.
Electric crepe maker or stovetop pan?
| Choose an electric maker when… | Choose a stovetop pan when… |
|---|---|
| You want a dedicated appliance with its own thermostat. | You already have a suitable range and want no additional appliance. |
| You want a broad, completely flat surface for spreading. | You need compact storage and multipurpose cookware. |
| You are learning and want to separate heat control from the pan. | You are comfortable adjusting burner heat while cooking. |
| You regularly make several crepes at a time. | You make crepes occasionally or in smaller portions. |
| You have counter and cabinet space for another appliance. | You do not want a dedicated countertop machine. |
Electric machines are convenient, but the spreader still takes practice. A flat hot plate does not automatically produce a round crepe: the batter must be measured consistently and spread quickly before it sets. A pan gives you more control over burner heat and can be used for unrelated recipes, but it adds the challenge of managing the pan’s temperature yourself.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right size
- 8 to 10 inches: practical for smaller servings, individual portions, and compact storage. The Cuisinart is nominally 10 inches, but its tested usable area was slightly larger than 8.5 inches.
- 12 to 13 inches: the closest match to the large, thin crepes many people associate with restaurant service at home. The CucinaPro, NutriChef, Krampouz, and Proctor Silex occupy this range.
- 16 inches: commercial scale. The Waring’s surface is useful for volume but demands substantially more counter, storage, and handling space.
Remember that nominal diameter is not always the same as usable cooking area. Rim shape, sloping sides, controls, and the plate design can reduce the area in which batter can actually be spread.
Surface materials and maintenance
Nonstick
Nonstick is the easiest material for beginners because crepes can release with less fat and less coaxing. It is also the least forgiving of careless tools and abrasive cleaning. Use utensils approved for the surface, avoid metal unless the manufacturer expressly permits it, and do not use scouring pads.
Recommended Free Tools
Carbon steel
Carbon steel offers a thin, responsive surface and can develop better release as its seasoning improves. It is not maintenance-free: seasoning is required, dishwasher cleaning is inappropriate, and moisture left on the pan can promote rust. The de Buyer Mineral B is a strong fit for experienced cooks, not for someone seeking an appliance that works perfectly with no preparation.

Enameled cast iron
Enameled cast iron avoids seasoning and is compatible with induction when the manufacturer says so. It retains heat well and can be durable, but the weight affects flipping, cleaning, and storage. The Le Creuset is the premium example in this guide.
What the included spreader and spatula actually do
A wooden spreader or rateau helps push batter outward in a circular motion. A thin spatula slides beneath the cooked crepe for loosening and turning. These are useful accessories, particularly on large electric plates, but their inclusion is not a guarantee of easy results. Spreading has a short learning curve: too much batter makes a thick crepe, pressing too hard creates thin spots, and moving too slowly allows the batter to set before it reaches the edge.
If your chosen pan or maker does not include tools, look for a wooden crepe spreader and thin crepe spatula sized for the cooking surface. Match the tools to the coating: use utensils suitable for nonstick surfaces.
A practical buying checklist
- Confirm the format: dedicated electric machine versus stovetop pan.
- Measure your storage space: include handles, cords, feet, and the room needed to use the appliance safely.
- Check the diameter: compare usable cooking area, not only the advertised outside measurement.
- Prefer adjustable heat: thermostats or dials are more useful than a fixed setting.
- Check voltage: this is especially important with imported equipment such as the 230–240-volt Krampouz Diabolo.
- Match the surface to your habits: nonstick for convenience, carbon steel for seasoning-based longevity, and enameled cast iron for premium low-maintenance construction.
- Check care instructions: hand-washing, seasoning, utensil restrictions, and dishwasher compatibility vary.
- Verify current stock and warranty: manufacturer pages and retailer listings can change after publication.
Our final picks
Buy the Chefman Electric Crepe Maker if you are a beginner who wants the simplest electric workflow and a surface shown in independent testing to heat gently and evenly. Choose the CucinaPro 1448 for the strongest all-around combination of a 12-inch surface, adjustable heat, accessories, and griddle versatility. Choose the Cuisinart 623C-24 if a compact stovetop pan makes more sense than another appliance. Experienced cooks who accept seasoning and maintenance should look at the de Buyer Mineral B.
For commercial service, step up to the Waring WSC160X. For premium international equipment, the Krampouz Diabolo is interesting—but its 230–240-volt specification must be resolved before a U.S. purchase. And if you want enameled cast iron with no seasoning requirement, the Le Creuset Traditional Round Crepe Pan is the premium alternative, provided its weight and price fit your kitchen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are electric crepe makers better than crepe pans?
Electric crepe makers are usually easier for beginners because they provide a dedicated flat surface and built-in temperature control. A stovetop pan is more versatile and easier to store, but you must manage burner heat and learn how quickly the pan sets the batter.
What size crepe maker should I buy?
A 12- or 13-inch surface is a good home size for large, thin crepes. A 10-inch pan is more compact and suitable for smaller servings. A 16-inch model such as the Waring WSC160X is commercial-scale and generally too large for occasional home use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDoes a carbon-steel crepe pan need seasoning?
Yes, carbon steel must be seasoned and maintained. The de Buyer Mineral B is not naturally nonstick out of the box; its release improves with seasoning and suitable cooking technique. It should not be put in the dishwasher.
Can I use an imported electric crepe maker in the United States?
Check the appliance’s voltage, plug, warranty, and return policy. The Krampouz Diabolo specification supplied for this guide is 230–240 V, so it should not be treated as a default U.S. recommendation without confirming a compatible version.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The best crepe maker depends first on format. Choose an electric model for easier heat control and a large dedicated surface; choose a stovetop pan for compact storage and everyday versatility. The Chefman is the safest beginner recommendation, the CucinaPro 1448 is the best all-around electric value, the Cuisinart is the easiest stovetop entry, and the de Buyer Mineral B is the better long-term choice for cooks willing to season carbon steel.
