The 4 Best Oven Mitts and Pot Holders, Tested & Reviewed

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The All-Clad Silicone Oven Mitts are the best all-around choice for most kitchens: they combine a grippy silicone exterior, a soft fabric interior, 14-inch coverage, and a manufacturer-rated heat resistance of up to 500°F. The Sungwoo Extra Long Silicone Oven Mitts are the better value pick, Grill Armor Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves are best when dexterity matters, and the OXO Good Grips Silicone Pot Holder is the easiest option for quick pan-handle, lid, and trivet jobs.

These recommendations are based on current published testing by Food Network and Wirecutter, not physical testing by ResearchCore or this site. Food Network reports testing more than 25 sets in kitchen conditions, including pans heated to 350°F and 450°F. Wirecutter says it has tested 33 models and evaluated heat protection, maneuverability, sizing, and laundering.

Our 4 picks at a glance

Pick Best for Notable features Main drawback
All-Clad Silicone Oven Mitts Overall oven use 14-inch length, silicone grip, machine washable, up to 500°F manufacturer rating Costs more than the value pick; less dexterous than a five-finger glove
Sungwoo Extra Long Silicone Oven Mitts Value and forearm coverage 14.6-inch length, textured silicone grip, 500°F claim, multiple colors Hand-cleaning recommended; heat became noticeable during testing
Grill Armor Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves Grilling and dexterity Five-finger design, aramid-fiber blend, silicone grip lines Less heatproof than the other picks; may fit loosely; unsafe when wet
OXO Good Grips Silicone Pot Holder Pan handles, lids, and trivets Silicone exterior, soft liner, dishwasher-safe care, doubles as a trivet Does not protect the whole hand, wrist, or forearm

1. All-Clad Silicone Oven Mitts: best overall

The All-Clad silicone oven mitts are the strongest all-purpose choice for routine oven work. Food Network named them its best overall oven mitt in an update dated February 5, 2026, citing their silicone stripes for grip, 14-inch length, machine-washable construction, and complete hand protection during its hot-pan test.

The manufacturer describes a two-piece set made from cotton twill and flexible silicone, with a hang loop and protection rated up to 500°F. The long design provides useful coverage over the wrist and part of the lower forearm when you reach into a hot oven or lift a roasting pan. Silicone stripes also offer a more secure hold than a smooth cotton surface, particularly on cookware with broad or awkward handles.

#1 Best Overall
BPA-Free Silicone Oven Mitts Ultra Heat Resistant up to 500°F - Oven Mitts with Thick Cotton Liner - Long Slip Resistant Pot Holders, Flexible Oven Gloves - Black 13.7"
  • ULTRA HEAT RESISTANT: Built to withstand temperatures up to 500°F, our silicone oven mitts provide reliable protection for cooking, baking, grilling, and roasting. Use them to safely manage hot cookware, cast iron pans, and baking sheets. The extended length protects hands and wrists from flare-ups or accidental burns, making them the best choice for both home kitchens and professional use.
  • SUPERIOR PROTECTION: Measuring 13.7 inches long, these mitts cover from fingertips to well past the wrist for full protection. The durable silicone shell blocks heat and steam, while the non-slip texture ensures a steady grip on cookware and bakeware. Whether you’re grilling outdoors, reaching into a hot oven, or managing multiple dishes, these mitts keep your hands safe and stable under any condition.
  • WATERPROOF & STEAM-RESISTANT: Unlike traditional fabric mitts, our silicone gloves are completely waterproof and resistant to steam. Spills, boiling liquids, and oven steam are no longer a threat to your safety. These mitts keep your hands dry while you cook and prevent accidents caused by slipping or moisture absorption. Ideal for handling hot plates, cookware, and grilling tools with confidence.
  • DURABLE & COMFORTABLE: Designed to last, these oven mitts will not tear, thin, or fray like fabric gloves. The heavy-duty silicone exterior is combined with a soft, quilted cotton lining for breathability and comfort. Flexible construction allows for natural movement, while the ergonomic fit keeps your grip steady. Perfect for everyday use in the kitchen or outdoors on the grill, ensuring performance and comfort every time.
  • VERSATILE & GIFT-READY: More than just oven mitts, these gloves double as pot holders, trivets, and hot pads to protect counters and tables. They make excellent apartment essentials, home must-haves, and wedding registry gifts for new households. Families will love them for everyday meals, while bakers can rely on them for oven safety. Their sleek design fits modern, farmhouse, and boho kitchens, making them both practical and stylish for any home.

This is the best fit for sheet pans, roasting pans, Dutch ovens, and other substantial cookware where coverage and grip matter more than fingertip precision. The soft fabric interior should also feel more comfortable than an entirely rigid silicone mitt.

The trade-off is dexterity. A conventional mitt places four fingers together in one compartment, so it is harder to manipulate small objects or adjust a grill component than with a five-finger glove. It also costs more than the Sungwoo value option. Finally, “up to 500°F” is a product rating, not permission to hold a 500°F pan indefinitely. The safe contact time depends on the cookware, the duration of contact, moisture, and the condition of the mitt.

2. Sungwoo Extra Long Silicone Oven Mitts: best value

If you want long forearm coverage without paying premium-brand pricing, the Sungwoo extra-long silicone oven mitts are the value pick. Food Network selected them as its best-value option and reported a 14.6-inch length, a 500°F heat-resistance claim, comfortable maneuverability, and 12 color options.

The extra length makes these a practical choice for deep ovens, large bakeware, and high-sided roasting vessels. Walmart’s current listing describes a two-layer polyester-and-silicone construction, textured grip, and quilted cotton lining. The combination is intended to provide both a non-slip exterior and a softer interior than a single-layer silicone glove.

Food Network reported that some heat became noticeable during testing, although it did not become uncomfortable. That observation is important: a heat-resistance claim does not mean the mitt will feel cool under every condition. A very hot pan, prolonged contact, or a damp lining can transfer heat more quickly.

Care is the main practical compromise. The product is not dishwasher safe according to Food Network, and retailer guidance calls for cleaning with soapy water or wiping. Check the care label before washing rather than assuming that every silicone mitt can go into a washing machine. Compared with the All-Clad and OXO options, the Sungwoo mitts also have less independently documented testing in the supplied research, so their manufacturer and retailer specifications should be distinguished from Food Network’s test observations.

3. Grill Armor Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves: best for grilling and dexterity

For grill work and tasks that require individual-finger control, choose the Grill Armor oven gloves. Food Network named Grill Armor its best grilling option, while Wirecutter selected the gloves as its preferred oven-glove choice for maneuverability and dexterity.

Unlike a traditional mitt, these gloves have separate finger compartments. That makes it easier to move grill lids, handle smaller objects, adjust tools, or reposition cookware without repeatedly taking the protection off. Grill Armor describes the Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves as an aramid-fiber blend with a cotton lining and silicone grip lines on both sides.

The design has clear limits. Wirecutter cautions that these gloves are less heatproof than its other picks and may fit large, especially on smaller hands. They are therefore better for controlled, shorter tasks than for carrying a very hot Dutch oven across the kitchen or holding a heavy roasting pan for an extended time.

Do not use these gloves when they are wet. The Grill Armor review specifically warns that wet gloves do not protect the hands adequately. Also, do not transfer claims from Grill Armor’s separately marketed waterproof neoprene model to these Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves. They are different products, with different materials and documentation.

In short, select Grill Armor when dexterity is the priority—particularly at the grill—and select a conventional long mitt when maximum coverage and insulation are more important.

4. OXO Good Grips Silicone Pot Holder: best pot holder

The OXO silicone pot holder is the best choice for small, quick jobs such as lifting a skillet handle, removing a pot lid, or moving a saucepan. Wirecutter names it its top pot-holder pick and reports better heat protection than plain terry-cloth holders, along with easy handling and cleaning.

  • HEAT PROTECTION: mitts offer maximum protection from high temperatures of up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit; unlike cotton mitts which don’t resist high temperatures, these mitts are the perfect option for using at the grill, stove, or oven; each mitt provides generous arm coverage and measures 12.5 inches; please note: packaging inserts may reference a previous 484°F heat-resistance rating; updated testing has since validated heat resistance up to 550°F

Current retailer information describes a silicone exterior with a diamond pattern, a soft liner, and resistance to steam, flame, and stains. It is dishwasher safe and measures approximately 9.8 by 8 inches. The flat shape also lets it serve as a trivet beneath a hot pan or baking dish, so it can remain useful on the counter even when you are not handling cookware.

A pot holder is less cumbersome than a full mitt for a pan handle or lid. It is also easier to store in a drawer. But it does not enclose the hand or protect the wrist and forearm. That makes it a poor substitute for a long oven mitt when reaching deep into an oven, carrying a large roasting pan, or handling cookware with exposed hot sides.

Oven mitts, oven gloves, or pot holders?

The shape should match the task:

  • Choose an oven mitt when you need broad hand protection, a secure grip, and wrist or lower-forearm coverage. The thumb sits in its own compartment while the four fingers share another.
  • Choose an oven glove when separate fingers and maneuverability matter more than maximum insulation. Gloves are particularly useful for grill tools, lids, and smaller objects.
  • Choose a pot holder for quick contact with pan handles, pot lids, and small cookware. A good flat holder can also double as a trivet.

There is no single best material for every use. Cotton tends to be soft, flexible, and straightforward to clean, while silicone generally supplies a more secure non-slip surface and better resistance to moisture. Many well-regarded products combine a silicone exterior with a cotton or poly-cotton lining.

Wirecutter advises avoiding neoprene in the tested category because of odor and potential melting at very high temperatures. That finding should not be generalized to every modern neoprene product: materials, construction, and certifications vary. Judge the exact model’s documentation rather than assuming that one product’s behavior applies to all neoprene gloves.

How to choose safely

1. Prioritize coverage for heavy cookware

For a deep oven, roasting pan, Dutch oven, or large baking dish, a long mitt is usually safer and more practical than a short pot holder. The All-Clad’s reported 14-inch length and the Sungwoo’s reported 14.6-inch length provide more wrist and forearm coverage than a flat holder.

2. Treat temperature numbers as limits, not holding-time guarantees

A label such as “500°F” describes a manufacturer’s rating or a particular test condition. It does not establish a universal safe-contact time for every pan, oven, or movement. Heat continues to transfer into the protective material as contact lasts longer. Plan where the hot item will go before removing it, keep the route clear, and set the cookware down promptly.

  • EASY CARE - These Kitchen Aid oven mitts can be easily cleaned. Simply rinse off with water and wipe them clean.

3. Keep fabric protection completely dry

A wet fabric mitt can transmit heat much more readily than a dry one. Never rely on a damp or saturated lining for handling hot cookware. If a mitt becomes wet, replace it with a dry one and follow the model’s care instructions.

4. Check fit and grip

A mitt that is too large can make a heavy pan harder to control; a glove that is too loose can reduce dexterity. Look for enough room to close your hand naturally without allowing the protection to slip. Textured silicone can improve grip, but it cannot compensate for an unstable or overloaded pan.

5. Inspect and replace worn protection

Replace a mitt or glove when the insulation has compressed or separated, seams have opened, fabric is badly scorched, or the silicone grip has cracked, peeled, or become slick. Do not continue using a product simply because its printed temperature rating has not changed.

6. Follow the exact care label

Care instructions differ. The All-Clad mitts are described as machine washable, while Food Network says the Sungwoo mitts are not dishwasher safe and retailer guidance recommends soapy water or wiping. The OXO pot holder is described as dishwasher safe. Before washing any product, check its manufacturer instructions; improper cleaning can damage insulation, liners, seams, or grip surfaces.

What these products are—and are not—for

These are consumer kitchen products. Do not use ordinary oven mitts or pot holders for open-flame industrial work, foundry work, welding, or other applications that require specialized protective equipment.

EN 407 is a standard for heat- and fire-protective gloves, but consumer kitchen products differ in whether they carry that certification. Do not imply EN 407 certification unless the exact model’s documentation establishes it. In particular, the waterproof Grill Armor model’s certification or marketing claims should not be attributed to the separately named Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves.

The four recommended products have a direct physical-product relationship to this article and may be available through major retail marketplaces. Do not assume that similarly named products share the same construction or safety claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are silicone oven mitts better than cotton oven mitts?

Not in every situation. Silicone generally offers better grip and resistance to moisture, while cotton is often softer and more flexible. A silicone exterior with a cotton or poly-cotton lining is a useful compromise, but coverage, fit, dryness, and the exact product’s care instructions matter more than material alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I hold a 500°F pan indefinitely with a 500°F oven mitt?

No. A 500°F rating is not a universal safe-contact-time guarantee. Longer contact allows more heat to transfer through the mitt, and the result also depends on moisture, cookware, and the condition of the insulation. Move hot cookware promptly and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Is a pot holder as protective as an oven mitt?

No. A pot holder can be excellent for a pan handle, lid, or small piece of cookware, but it does not enclose the hand or protect the wrist and forearm. Use a long oven mitt for deep ovens, large pans, and heavy cookware.

Can I use oven gloves when they are wet?

Do not use wet fabric or Grill Armor Extreme Heat-Resistant Oven Gloves for handling hot cookware. Moisture can conduct heat through fabric protection much faster, and the Grill Armor review specifically warns against wet use.

Are these oven mitts suitable for welding or industrial heat?

No. They are consumer kitchen products, not a substitute for task-specific industrial protective equipment. Use equipment designed and certified for the relevant industrial hazard.

The Bottom Line

For most home cooks, the All-Clad Silicone Oven Mitts offer the best balance of grip, comfort, coverage, and documented testing. Choose the Sungwoo mitts to save money while retaining long forearm coverage, Grill Armor when five-finger dexterity is essential, and the OXO pot holder for quick pan-handle and trivet work. Whatever you choose, keep it dry, use it for its intended task, and treat temperature ratings as product claims—not unlimited holding-time guarantees.
