For a traditional vise bench, start with a 3/4-inch dog-hole line about 2–3 inches from the front edge and roughly 3 inches on center, aligned with the moving vise dog. Plan holdfast holes separately, and use a 20 mm / 96 mm grid only when building an MFT-style top for compatible accessories.
