Its value is not simply a smaller trailer: the folding structure creates a broad, central living plan, while Murphy furniture and other movable pieces make the home compact enough to travel.
The figures and operating times below come from Treehugger’s September 2023 feature and PODX GO’s May 2023 announcement unless otherwise identified. They are reported specifications, not an independent inspection or towing test.

What changes when the Grande S1 opens?
Most tiny-house trailers are long and narrow because their road width is limited. The Grande S1 is designed around the opposite trade-off. Treehugger reported a folded footprint of 20 feet long by 8.5 feet wide. Once deployed, the home is reported at approximately 20 feet wide with 364 square feet of floor area.

That width allows rooms and furniture to sit across a central plan instead of along a single corridor. It also means the home needs a clear site substantially wider than a conventional trailer when it is in use.

How the reported setup and fold-down process works
Opening the home
Treehugger describes a sequence in which the stabilizing posts are lowered, the awning and stairs are unfolded, and a button activates integrated pistons that move the structure. The article reports a setup time of roughly 15 to 20 minutes. That is an article-reported estimate, not a measured result under stated weather, ground or crew conditions.
Preparing for travel
Before folding, residents must stow the queen bed, desk, dining table and other movable furnishings. The four stabilizing posts are removed, and the folding mechanism is activated. Treehugger reports that the fold-up takes less than 10 minutes. A real departure also requires normal trailer checks, including hitch connection, lights, brakes, load security and route clearance.

On the opposite side, a desk folds into the wall, while a queen Murphy bed folds away when the room is needed for daytime use. The same area includes a closet and lock box. This arrangement increases usable open space, but it makes daily conversion part of living in the home: the bed and work surfaces cannot remain deployed while the trailer is being prepared for travel.

Can the Grande S1 operate off-grid?
The reported design has an optional off-grid equipment path, rather than evidence that solar and storage are included in every base unit. Treehugger described a 1,400-watt solar array connected to a 5-kilowatt Renogy Lycan power box. PODX GO’s May 2023 announcement instead described 1,400 watts of solar and 4.8 kWh of energy storage.

Because kilowatts describe power and kilowatt-hours describe energy capacity, the two figures should not be merged into one specification. Before ordering, confirm the exact Renogy model, battery capacity, inverter limits, wiring, included equipment and compatibility with the current Grande S1 package.

What does it cost?
Treehugger reported a Grande S1 starting price of $85,000 in 2023. A specification document hosted on Scribd also lists $85,000, but its official status and date could not be established. Neither figure is a current quotation. Ask PODX GO for today’s base price, options, taxes, freight, site work and delivery schedule.
Is it certified, street-legal and suitable for your tow vehicle?
Certification and occupancy
PODX GO’s 2023 announcement said the design had NOAH certification. The third-party Scribd document says “Certified by NOAH with ANSI 119.5 standards.” Those statements do not establish a current certificate, a universal building approval or permission to occupy the home on a particular parcel. Your local authority may apply separate rules for zoning, foundations, utilities, inspections and temporary or permanent occupancy.

Road use and towing
Treehugger repeated the company’s characterization that the folded dimensions are street-legal without special permits. That does not prove legality on every route or that any vehicle can tow the unit. A Scribd-hosted specification document reports a dry weight of 18,000 to 19,000 pounds depending on options and a 22,000-pound GVWR, but those figures are unverified and should not be used as towing advice.
Obtain a current manufacturer specification sheet and have a qualified trailer or vehicle professional confirm:
- Actual empty and loaded weight for the selected options
- Gross vehicle weight rating and tongue weight
- Tow vehicle rating, hitch class and payload
- Brake-controller, breakaway and electrical requirements
- Width, height and route restrictions in your jurisdiction
- Registration, insurance and any oversize or travel permits
What to verify before placing an order
- Request current documents: Ask for the latest price sheet, floor plan, options list, warranty, delivery terms and signed specification sheet.
- Confirm the delivered configuration: Establish whether solar, battery storage, appliances, stairs, awning, stabilizers and smart-home equipment are standard or optional.
- Check the site: Measure the open-area width, access route, turning space, overhead clearance and ground conditions for stabilizers.
- Validate legal use: Speak with transportation, zoning and building officials before relying on certification or street-legal descriptions.
- Match the tow system: Use the manufacturer’s current GVWR and axle data—not an old third-party sheet—to size the vehicle, hitch and braking equipment.
- Plan the travel routine: Allow time to clear surfaces, fold furniture, remove stabilizers and inspect the trailer before every departure.
Who is the fold-out design best suited to?
The Grande S1’s strongest case is for an owner who wants a towable home with a genuinely wide interior after arrival and accepts a setup routine plus a large site footprint. It may be less suitable where parking space is narrow, towing capacity is limited, or local rules treat a deployable trailer differently from an ordinary RV. Since current availability, pricing and specifications were not established in the cited material, a direct manufacturer confirmation is essential before treating the 2023 description as a purchase offer.
