The Philips PFAS Pro ADD5913WH/37 is a powered, 4.8-liter pitcher-style water dispenser that filters as you pour and tracks filter usage. Its ADD569 cartridge is certified to reduce PFOA and PFOS—but that is a narrower and more honest claim than “removes all forever chemicals.”

The short answer

The product behind this claim is the Philips NSF-certified PFAS Pro Water Dispenser, model ADD5913WH/37. It is a battery-powered, 4.8-liter water pitcher-style dispenser that filters water as you pour and monitors filter usage. Its PFAS Pro cartridge, model ADD569, is certified to reduce PFOA and PFOS—two well-known members of the broader PFAS family.

That is a useful, specific claim. It is not the same as saying the pitcher removes every “forever chemical,” detects PFAS in real time, or guarantees that any tap water will fall below a particular regulatory limit.

What the Philips PFAS Pro pitcher actually is

Philips calls the ADD5913WH/37 a water dispenser rather than simply a pitcher. In practical use, it occupies the same countertop role as a filtered water pitcher, but it is powered and dispenses water through the filtration system when you pour.

If you are comparing models, Philips also lists the smaller ADD5912WH/37, with a stated 3.0-liter capacity. Check the model number and cartridge compatibility before ordering: the two dispensers should not be treated as interchangeable simply because they belong to the same PFAS Pro range.

For readers looking specifically for the featured product, the Philips PFAS Pro water pitcher is the model to compare against the specifications above. Retail availability, seller, price, and replacement-filter pricing can change, so verify the exact model number before buying.

Which contaminants does the cartridge reduce?

The important qualification is the certification claim. Philips states that the PFAS Pro ADD569 cartridge is certified under NSF/ANSI Standard 53 to reduce:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • PFOA
  • PFOS

The cartridge also carries other listed reduction claims, including:

  • Chlorine under NSF/ANSI 42
  • Lead and mercury at pH 6.5 and 8.5 under NSF/ANSI 53
  • Volatile organic compounds, including pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides, under NSF/ANSI 53
  • Several pharmaceuticals and endocrine-related chemicals under NSF/ANSI 401, Group 3
  • Lead-free construction under NSF/ANSI 372

These are product-specific claims. NSF certification does not mean that the entire pitcher removes every contaminant, and it does not turn a general “filtered water” label into proof of PFAS reduction. When comparing another product, look for a certification listing and a named claim for the contaminant you actually want reduced.

“Forever chemicals” means more than PFOA and PFOS

PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, is a large class of manufactured chemicals. The consumer term “forever chemicals” refers to their persistence, not to one single substance.

PFOA and PFOS are among the best-known PFAS compounds, but they are not the whole category. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s drinking-water rule addresses six PFAS or PFAS groupings, including:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • PFOA
  • PFOS
  • PFHxS
  • PFNA
  • HFPO-DA, commonly associated with GenX chemicals
  • Certain mixtures involving PFBS, using a hazard-index approach

Consequently, the accurate statement is: the Philips PFAS Pro cartridge is certified to reduce PFOA and PFOS. It would be too broad to say that it eliminates every PFAS or makes water completely PFAS-free.

Does the “smart” feature detect PFAS?

No evidence in the available Philips product information supports that interpretation. The dispenser’s smart behavior is its usage-based filter monitoring. It tracks how the cartridge is being used instead of relying only on a fixed date reminder.

That can be more useful than changing a filter on an arbitrary calendar schedule. A household that pours frequently and one that uses the dispenser occasionally do not consume cartridge capacity at the same rate.

However, usage monitoring is not water testing. The dispenser is not documented as having:

  • Wi-Fi or smartphone-app connectivity
  • Remote notifications
  • A built-in PFAS sensor
  • Real-time chemical analysis
  • A system that measures the concentration of PFOA, PFOS, or other PFAS in your water

The reminder estimates filter use. It does not prove that the cartridge is still reducing every listed contaminant at a particular concentration in your home.

How effective will it be in a real home?

Certification is evidence that the cartridge met the named reduction claim under the applicable testing conditions. Household results can vary with the incoming water, contaminant concentration, flow rate, cartridge age, and maintenance.

The EPA and NSF both emphasize that point-of-use filters can substantially reduce PFAS when the technology and certified claim are appropriate, but only if the filter is installed, used, and replaced according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

There is also an important regulatory distinction. Existing product certification does not automatically demonstrate reduction to every newer drinking-water standard or to every regulatory level that may apply. In particular, consumers should not interpret the NSF/ANSI 53 PFOA/PFOS claim as a guarantee that their water will be below the EPA’s maximum contaminant levels.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In other words, the certification is meaningful, but it has boundaries:

What the certification supports What it does not prove
The cartridge reduces the specifically named PFOA and PFOS contaminants under the applicable certification conditions. That it removes every PFAS compound.
The cartridge has additional listed reduction claims for certain other contaminants. That it removes all contaminants in your water.
The product has been evaluated for specified claims and conditions. That every household will receive identical results or water below a particular legal limit.

What to check before buying

1. Find out what is in the source water

Start with your water supplier’s Consumer Confidence Report if you receive municipal water. It may not provide every PFAS measurement, but it is a useful starting point for understanding the system’s reported water quality and any notices.

Private-well owners do not have the same routine reporting system. If you use a well, consider independent laboratory testing, particularly if local land use, groundwater history, or a public-health advisory suggests a possible PFAS source. A consumer test kit may be convenient, but it should not automatically be treated as equivalent to certified laboratory analysis.

2. Match the claim to the contaminant

Look for a named PFOA/PFOS or PFAS reduction claim. A pitcher marketed for chlorine, taste, or odor may improve the drinking experience without being certified for PFAS.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Verify the certification listing

Check the exact product and cartridge in the current listing of the certification organization. Relevant organizations may include NSF, IAPMO, WQA, or CSA. Certification is model- and claim-specific; a brand’s general filtration reputation is not a substitute for checking the actual cartridge.

4. Include replacement filters in the cost

The dispenser is only useful while the ADD569 cartridge is within its service life. Follow Philips’s replacement instructions and the device’s usage monitoring rather than extending use indefinitely because the water still tastes normal. Taste and odor are not reliable indicators of PFAS reduction.

Owners should verify compatibility before purchasing a Philips ADD569 replacement filter, especially when shopping across different Philips model numbers or third-party listings. The replacement cartridge is a recurring part of the ownership cost, not an optional accessory.

5. Treat it as point-of-use treatment

This is a drinking-water intervention for water passing through the dispenser. It is not whole-house treatment. It will not treat water used for bathing, laundry, toilets, appliances, or every tap in a building.

How it compares with other filtered pitchers

The meaningful comparison is not “filtered pitcher versus unfiltered pitcher.” Compare the details that affect PFAS performance and ownership:

Comparison point Why it matters
Exact contaminant claim Chlorine reduction is not the same as PFOA/PFOS reduction.
Certification organization and standard Shows which claims were evaluated and under what standard.
Capacity The 4.8-liter ADD5913WH/37 suits a different household pattern than the 3.0-liter ADD5912WH/37.
Filter replacement interval Service life affects both convenience and long-term cost.
Replacement-cartridge price and availability A low initial price is less attractive if compatible cartridges are difficult or expensive to obtain.
Monitoring method Usage-based tracking can be more tailored than a calendar reminder, but it is not chemical testing.

ZeroWater-based pitchers are one comparison category because Culligan markets certain systems as using five-stage ion-exchange filtration and carrying PFAS-reduction claims. That does not establish that every ZeroWater or Culligan model has the same certification. Verify the exact model and current certification listing before treating one as a direct alternative to the Philips ADD5913WH/37.

Who should consider the Philips dispenser?

This product makes the most sense for someone who:

  • wants point-of-use drinking-water treatment rather than whole-house equipment;
  • has a specific concern about PFOA or PFOS;
  • prefers a countertop dispenser that filters while pouring;
  • values usage-based filter reminders;
  • can commit to buying and replacing the correct ADD569 cartridge.

It may be a poor fit if you need treatment at every fixture, need verified reduction for a different PFAS compound, want laboratory confirmation of your household water, or cannot reliably maintain the cartridge.

Bottom line

The Philips ADD5913WH/37 is a convenient powered pitcher-style dispenser with a genuinely relevant PFAS claim: its ADD569 PFAS Pro cartridge is certified to reduce PFOA and PFOS. Its usage-based monitoring is useful for filter maintenance, but “smart” does not mean app-connected or capable of detecting PFAS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Philips pitcher remove all forever chemicals?

The Philips PFAS Pro cartridge is certified to reduce PFOA and PFOS, two specific PFAS compounds. That does not establish removal of every PFAS or guarantee completely PFAS-free water.

Does this smart pitcher detect PFAS?

No. The available product information describes usage-based filter monitoring, not a PFAS sensor, water analysis, Wi-Fi connection, app, or remote alert system.

How much water does the Philips PFAS Pro dispenser hold?

The featured ADD5913WH/37 has a stated effective capacity of 4.8 liters, approximately 20 cups. Philips also lists the smaller ADD5912WH/37 at 3.0 liters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When should the ADD569 filter be replaced?

Use the Philips usage monitoring and follow the manufacturer’s replacement instructions. Do not keep using a cartridge indefinitely because the water still tastes normal; taste and odor do not reliably show whether PFAS reduction remains effective.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Philips ADD5913WH/37 can reduce certified PFOA and PFOS through its ADD569 cartridge, while its smart feature tracks filter usage. It does not test water or remove every PFAS, so source-water information, exact certification, and timely cartridge replacement still matter.
