What happens during PCI Precast Days?
The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) organizes Precast Days as an industry-awareness event. PCI producer members can host local open houses and production-facility tours for students, community members, and other interested visitors. Depending on the host, an event may include a plant tour, an education session, or social and digital media activities.

The purpose is to introduce visitors to precast concrete and build awareness of careers in precast and construction. Precast concrete is manufactured off-site in a controlled environment and is used in architectural and structural applications, including buildings, parking structures, and bridges. PCI’s 2025 announcement reported 143 producer members and 259 PCI-certified plants, as well as $7.4 billion in producer-member sales in 2024; these are figures reported by PCI, not a count of confirmed 2026 tour sites. When is the 2026 event, and how do you find a tour?
PCI’s event calendar lists the 2026 Precast Days window as October 5–16. That window does not establish which plants will participate or provide a complete list of local dates, opening hours, or registration instructions. Check PCI’s current Precast Days event page for available information, then contact the individual producer hosting the visit.

- Look for a participating producer and the local event information on PCI’s current event page.
- Ask the host to confirm the tour date and start time, whether registration is required, and who is eligible to attend.
- Before traveling, confirm the activities offered, accessibility arrangements, arrival instructions, and any clothing or safety requirements.
Do not assume a plant accepts walk-ins or that every location offers the same program. The 2025 announcement describes the event’s purpose and audience; it does not guarantee a particular plant’s participation or schedule in 2026.
What should visitors expect at a plant?
Tour formats are set by local hosts. One example from a prior event: PCI’s November 2025 account says Smith-Midland hosted plant tours, educational sessions, and lunch at its Midland, Virginia facility on October 9. At a tour, visitors may learn how precast products are made and where they are used. Ask the host what the visit will cover rather than expecting a particular production demonstration or educational session.
What should you wear, and what safety rules apply?
Follow the instructions issued by the plant you plan to visit. PCI West says its regional plant tours must be scheduled in advance; its guidance says hard hats and safety glasses are provided and recommends closed-toe shoes and long pants. Those are PCI West’s instructions, not universal rules for every Precast Days host. PCI West plant-tour guidance

Confirm with your host whether protective equipment is provided and what footwear, clothing, or other safety measures are required. Do not assume that a facility can accommodate an unannounced visitor.
Is National Precast Day the same event?
No. The Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute lists National Precast Day as a separate Canadian initiative, with its own 2026 participating-plant listings. PCI Precast Days is the U.S. event with the October 5–16, 2026 window. Check the relevant organization’s listings for the program and region you intend to visit.
